How were these images obtained?

These images were all obtained clandestinely by Dr. Gary Wintemute using a cell phone camera at gun shows. He did not inform any of the dealers or attendees that he was conducting research nor his history of prior anti-gun efforts. He used them in a report claiming that "straw purchases" were rampant in states outside California w/o any evidence besides his personal opinions of various transactions he 'observed'.

This study has been hyped by the Brady Campaign, LCAV, MAIG, and others. It was funded in part by the Joyce Foundation which is the same group that funds the VPC, FSA, and other anti-gun efforts.

Josh Sugarmann: The Mother Jones revelation of Mary McFate's soulless undercover mission

Paul Helmke: Whatever the case, it's clear that some over there have too much money and no moral compass.

Bryan Miller:The McFate operation, says Miller, "would confirm for me the way that the gun lobby works, which is no rules, no question of fairness or honesty. Anything that they can do they will do to protect the profits of the gun industry."

These are the statements of "gun control" executives on the recent discovery that one of their prominent members was a paid informant to the NRA. This is the double standard present in the "gun control" lobby. Just like MAIG founder Chicago Mayor Daley denies citizens of the city the ability to defend themselves while walking around w/ a contingent of body guards, Sugarmann pretending to be an FFL dealer in order to get inside information of the firearm industry, and Mayor Bloomburg hiring people to entrap dealers, they show that the standards they set for everyone else is much higher than the ones they personally live up to.

NRA denies MoJo

Mother Jones, who broke the story of the "mole", is unhappy that the NRA hasn't provided damning sound-bytes for their amusement.

As per typical "authorized journalist" mentality, they think that people should be obligated to talk to them:

So shouldn't the NRA have to address this?

"have to"? No, I don't think they do. They (or anyone else for that matter) are under no obligation to the media whatsoever. "Freedom of the Press" /= Authority of the press.

But maybe not just the media but the NRA's own members (and board members) ought to ask why the lobby was spying on its political foes, who at the organization authorized this covert activity, how much money was spent on it, and, perhaps most important of all, was Sapone its only agent, past or present.

I won't ask them anything except to do more of it and hope they got plenty of information on groups trying to strip us of our rights. That, to me, is a better us of my dues than sending out multiple mailers.

Edit: Obviously the excellent research skills of Mojo are lost when it comes to their regular readers. The comment section reads like a poor copy of Huffpo or DU. All ad hominem all the time. No wonder we've done so well.

Josh lies through his sour grapes.

Everybody's favorite FFL dealer in DC bites down on his sour grapes over being chumped by the NRA.

One might have a little sympathy for him if he didn't fill his post w/ outright fabrications:

After the 1999 Columbine massacre, the NRA holds it annual meeting less than two weeks later in Denver, ignoring the pleas of families and civic leaders to cancel the event.

Yes, that's right. He brought this tired ol' meme out of the closet and dusted it off. Never mind the fact that the convention canceled all events except those meetings as required by law to be held.

I mean come on Josh. I'm sure you wear a tag stating your affiliation when you do 'research' at those firearm industry shows you attend using your FFL. Right. Don't you?

It's OK to kill kids. They deserve it...

According to ALF spokesmoron Dr. Jerry Vlasak..
"If their father is willing to continue risking his livelihood in order to continue chopping up animals in a laboratory than his children are old enough to recognize the consequences,
Really. He defends attempts to burn the family alive:
"This guy knows what he is doing. He knows that every day that he goes into the laboratory and hurts animals that it is unreasonable not to expect consequences."
The father is unreasonable. Right.

Why are Anti's always so violent?

Armed and Safe points to a sarcastic 'liberal' post on the 2A. I'm going to focus on a different part of the article than he did.

Forty-five million people who have no health insurance will be provided with prescription weapons to take to clinics and hospital emergency rooms, concealed or unconcealed, to assure treatment. SUV owners will be forced, at gunpoint, to trade their gas-guzzlers for hybrids. After reporting obscene profits, Exxon/Mobil executives will be run out of Houston by well-armed liberals.

So his initial concept of his 'well-armed liberals' is to threaten violence to get their way.

Can we say "projection" boys and girls? It really says a lot about that mindset, doesn't it?

So I can sue them?

When the pollen gums the hell out of my firearms and I can't get them clean enough to fire or I get some kind of long term health problems due to this stuff coating my skin?

Howabout the politicians who mandated it in the first place? Will the be held liable for any future problems?

But there's no Slippery-Slope. Really. Trust Us.

I've read a version before relating to Kerry if my memory hasn't failed me but it's still funny.

MODERN VERSION OBAMANOMICS: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green. "Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer! The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case,,,

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood,,,

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008,,,

Cowering beneath their rule

David Codrea points to another PSH piece where an editorialist uses the VPC and MAIG as her primary sources. No bias there, right? Especially when she regurgitates the phrases "gun lobby", "reasonable restrictions" and "unfettered access".

This bit really struck me though:

In any case, that night in Paris didn't turn me against those of us who cherish the right to own a gun. Unfortunately these days, too many of us have to cower beneath the rule of it.

So she has no problems with mayors who think they are above the law, violating federal law and bucking restraining orders, but cowers from citizens who want to defend themselves.

Sheep.

Fearmongering..

From the Brady Campaign:

If they think bankrolling someone to spy on gun violence victims who are trying to strengthen the tragically weak gun laws in the country is acceptable, what else might they be doing?
Well, they're not paying private investigators to try and entrap firearm dealers. They're not intentionally misleading the public on what constitutes an "assault weapon". Or telling people that the IL FOID card is the ONLY background check required for 10 years. Really guys, try looking into a mirror when you proclaim about "ethical boundaries". See if you can keep a straight face.

It should be noted that what the Brady Campaign considers "tragically weak" is anything below the DC handgun ban. You know. The law that was just ruled as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

As much as they lie and say they don't support "bans" and only want "to save lives" , their actions say otherwise:

Jeanne Bishop, president of a Million Mom March chapter in northern Chicago, said members of that group were just "stunned" to hear that council members were considering repealing the city's handgun ban or amending it.

She expressed concern that someone could remove a handgun in similar fashion and then take the weapon "into Evanston Township High School and have a Columbine shooting."

And even uses Kellerman to defend it:

She quoted statistics from the organization, which maintains that for every legally justifiable shooting of a gun in a household, some 22 are criminal, unintentional or suicide-related.
So the BC/MMM continues to support gun bans because someone might shoot up another school and the NRA might be spying on you too.

Brady Doublespeak

From the Brady site:

"What Would the State Gun Industry Immunity Legislation Do?

While there are differences between each of the state bills pushed by the NRA and the gun industry, the immunity bills would generally give special legal immunity to gun manufacturers and sellers so that they would not be liable for damages when injury or death results from their failure to use reasonable care in their design and sale of guns, including damages resulting from their failure to implement reasonable, life-saving safety devices.

From the Brady puppet site “GodnotGuns”

And yet:

Brady Center Files Suit Against Gun Seller Who Supplied Juneau Murderer

Chicago Tribune takes a stand against rights..

They can no longer claim in any way to be impartial in their news reporting on firearms.

We share Daley's anger at the 5-4 ruling of the Supreme Court. It was based on flawed legal reasoning, ignored precedent and will lead to years of litigation about the constitutionality of various firearms restrictions.

And yet even they say Daley should drop the ban.

Chicago not playing dumb...

They really are. From ChicagoHandgunCase comes the response to the City not bothering to look up records for their brief:

Applying the standard from the above cases to the instant situation, the Defendant
cannot claim ignorance about public records over which it has control. Presumably, the
Plaintiffs’ firearm applications and responses are in a computer, or file cabinet, or other storage
means in a City building, and the City simply decided not to look them up. That is not grounds
for claiming ignorance, and it was disingenuous of the Defendants to so claim.

Is anyone really surprised that Chicago is trying to stonewall, delay, and obfuscate as much as possible?

Revised DC Bill introduced.

As Uncle and SIH mentioned earlier. According to the NRA, it will:

  • Repeal the District's ban on semi-automatic handguns. Semi-automatic pistols have been the most commonly purchased handguns in the United States over the last 20 years, and therefore a ban on those firearms is unconstitutional as decided by Heller;

  • Restore the right of self-defense by repealing the requirement that firearms be disassembled or secured with a trigger lock in the home;

  • Repeal the current D.C. registration system that requires multiple visits to police headquarters; ballistics testing; passing a written test on D.C. gun laws; fingerprinting; and limiting registration to one handgun per 90 days. The current system is unduly burdensome and serves as a vehicle for even more onerous restrictions; and

  • Create a limited exemption to the federal ban on interstate handgun sales by allowing D.C. residents to purchase handguns in Virginia and Maryland. Currently there are no firearms dealers in the District of Columbia, and the federal ban prohibits residents from purchasing handguns outside of the District; therefore, District residents have no means of purchasing handguns.
Link to the actual bill when I find it.

The Chicago Surge

In the midst of a 13% increase in murders primarily by out of control gangs and a dramatic increase in shooting by Chicago Police involved w/ an increased police presence to combat said crime wave, who are the citizens of one of the most violent neighborhoods in Chicago lashing out against?
Ten people were arrested Friday night during a disturbance in the Englewood neighborhood, where community activists were advocating violence toward police and inciting a riot, police said Saturday.
An interesting counterpoint is presented from the CPUSA paper "Revolution", stating :
On a large intersection in Englewood, a couple hundred people stood up to police intimidation, humiliation and terrorizing, called the police out as murderers, and by the end of the night an estimated ten people had been arrested and brutalized.

So we have police (over?) reacting to a dramatic increase in crime that some 'community leaders' are screaming that something be done about, other 'community leaders' attacking the police and blaming the system, while the self-proclaimed and elected leaders , including Jackson, Sharpton, and Meeks inflame racial tensions to keep themselves in the limelight.

I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

Ceasefire PA boardmembers.

Some new information has come to light on this organization.

She became a leader of Pennsylvanians Against Handgun Violence and later a board member of Ceasefire Pennsylvania.

So they had a mole, a bigot, and a UFO nut.

They really can pick 'em, can't they?

Bryan Miller says it's a dishonest tactic. I would put it in the same category as intentionally misleading the public on firearms, legislation, and statistics.

Paul's got his knickers in a twist and calls the NRA a bunch of meanies. At the same time he misleads the public on statistics. Go figure. He opines:
Reading the story, one imagines a group of executives over at NRA headquarters huddled around a copy of The Art of War with a flashlight in a dark basement office, hatching a new cloak-and-dagger plot.
That's not the image I have. Unlike the BC, VPC, and CF, the NRA has enough money to pay their electric bills and afford copies for everyone.

An interesting comparison:

would this be similar to outspoken anti-gun activist Josh Sugarman (President of the Violence Policy Center) having a Federal Firearms Dealer License? -Zen21Tao

Why does Josh have it? One reason is to have inside access to industry trade shows.

Increasing Chicago HS graduation rates..

By encouraging students to skip school and spending tax money to bus them to a publicity stunt.

That is the concept by State Sen. Meeks who also apparently thinks exacerbating racial tensions will help improve things.
"Today we are back to two-tiered schools — white and affluent on one side, and black, brown and poor on the other,"
The Township doesn't quite know what to do:

Officials at New Trier Township High School District 203 said it wasn't yet clear how they'll deal with so many Chicago students showing up at one time to attempt to enroll at the high school.
My suggestion, call the police and have Meeks arrested for enabling truancy. Chicago is 43rd in the nation for African American HS graduation rates and only has a 50% rate overall. I'm sure encouraging kids to ditch school at any opportunity is the way to fix this.

Praise the Lord and pass the talking points...

Another Huffpo Screed advocates the Brady position that if only we had banned "Assault Shotguns" and tell lots of fibs then the recent church shooting would never have happened.

In it he mentions VT and NIU, both Brady Endorsed "Gun Free Zones" and, surprisingly, New Life Church in Colorado Springs. He states that it was a "security guard" who stopped the shooter. Neglecting of course to mention that the "guard" was a private member of the congregation that had the position to stop exactly the kind of situation that occurred. 30,000 die/year, neglecting to mention half are suicides, too many guns, etc. You know. The usual.

Obviously he missed the part where the the resident "GodnotGun" preacher fabricated stories and regularly demeans firearm owners in her search for Jesus.

Disney not a separate nation...

Federal, State, and Local laws apply to them no matter how powerful the Mouse but the law needs to be better defined.

Mandatory Layoffs in Chicago.

Showing his fiscal competence, Chicago Mayor Daley admits that mandatory lay-offs are on the table for city employees even after making Chicago one of the most highly taxed areas in the US , spending thousands of dollars to bus students to anti-gun protests, building museums nobody wants, and pimping the IOC to get the 2016 Olympics.

So the net results will be employees having to work overtime to make up for lost work or (if they're not allowed to) less money being spent in the city as workers have less to spend on ever more expensive purchases.

Go Daley Go. Turn Chicago into an even bigger hole.

Brady Campaign lies

They claim a semi-auto shotgun can shoot 3 shells at a time.

Again, thanks to reporting from the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the Knoxville church shooter apparently used a Remington Model 48, 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun that fires up to three shells at a time.

To add to their dishonesty, they compare it to a split breach dbl barrel instead of a pump action.

Not like we actually expect anything like integrity from the Brady Campaign though.

Note: They read the sites and updated theirs:

12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun that fires up to three shells at a time, one after the other, without having to re-load. Apologies for the “confusion.”

Sailorcurt says: But the hunters just KNOW that the anti-gunners won't take THEIR guns, now don't they?

DC Wars: The Heller Strikes Back

Just as we expected, the District of Columbia decided to play games over handgun registration, requiring ballistics tests, written exams, mandating storage, banning semi-auto's as machineguns, and much more inanity.

Also just as expected, Heller swung his cajones over his shoulder again and is taking them back to court.

We've won the individual rights battle (for now). Now we need to get the definable limits so DC, Chicago, and San Fran can be put to rest.

Everone knows I'm not an absolutist but I have my red lines. The current IL FOID is not my ideal but realistically it's the best we'll get in this state for the time being. In fact, having it has prevented stricter laws from being enacted. I'll deal w/ it for now. I will, however, fight tooth and nail to prevent plans like Blago's wanting to raise the fee to $500. THAT is a blatant infringement.

Had Chicago and DC not shot themselves in the foot and enacted their bans by closing the registration offices, it (registration) also wouldn't be on the infringement radar except as a distant blip . Difficult but not impossible to own. But they did ban guns, others (like MA and CA) are trying to follow suit defacto by requiring non-existant features and outrageous fees, and it's looking like it's going to cost them.

The Chicago Gun Buyback is working already...

Two women threw a caustic liquid into the face of another woman in the Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood and robbed her, police said.

Remember. Give them what they want and they won't hurt you. We should trust people who have proven they don't care about societal norms.

4 Shot In Back Of The Yards Neighborhood

Man fatally shot in Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police say

"Only" six seven people have been reported shot so far today. Think how bad it would have been.

Tracing guns

According to the 2007 UCR for Illinois, 6690 firearms were were recovered and traced in Chicago that year.

According to the city, 6700 firearms were "bought back" last year (2007).

So Chicago is not tracing all recovered firearms by a long-shot unless the majority of "guns" turned in were toys.

How accurate are trace data statistics again?

What more can Daley et al be doing to combat gun crime?

Send me the Bill..

A poster by the name of Paul Warfield over on Bryan Miller's blog is quite the amusing character. He's diagnosed me w/ delusions of grandeur, megolomania, underachieving, and other serious psychological issues and recommends I get counseling to "save myself some real trouble later in my life."

He really hates the military, citing Full Metal Jacket as his source, yet allegedly works w/ PTSD patients. Scary thought.

He also thinks starting out by calling people "high", paranoid, and psychoanalyzing their screen handles is the way to start a "reasoned discussion to convince people".

Just like our buddy Alex Riley, he likes to throw out unnamed "credentials" and lists of papers to justify his bigotry.

The fields of strawmen he's beaten down is a sight to behold.

One would expect that someone who is allegedly educated in psychology would have taken a Logic and Critical Thinking course.

All I can really do is watch him dance and laugh .

Chicago Roundup..

Gun turn in nets less than half of what police hoped for. Still ran out of money any way. So much for planning.

Daley realizes he's going to lose the lawsuit and instead asks lots of really stupid questions. Armed and Safe has more on that.

Anti-Mathematics are proven again as Alderman Mell, the one who tried to pass legislation allowing only him to re-register his guns, is shown what his "thousands of people" really amounted to. Himself, a former Attorney General and about 2 dozen other people. Exactly like I said would happen.

Winston Smith apparently was involved in the counting:

Gun turn-in program brings in more than 6,800 weapons

Yet:

The event, held at 25 churchces across the city, brought in close to 6,000 guns as of 9 p.m. Saturday, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

So it's either bad reporting, fudged numbers, or nearly 1000 were turned in after 9pm. I know what I'ld put my money on.

The land of 10,000 lakes and one clueless visitor.

Over on HuffPo, a writer by the name of Lloyd Garver is wanting to party like it's 1989. On a visit to Minnesota, he discovered this "quite astounding" law (in place since 2003) that allows people to carry concealed and that a business would need to place a sign up stating if they didn't want it in that particular establishment.

All on his own, he came up with this:
Can you imagine what it would be like if people were allowed to bring guns into a hospital? Think of that unhappy patient: "You call this a good nose job, Doc?" BAM!
Wow. All that originality. And from a writer of sitcoms. Who woulda' thunk?

After discovering this "crazy" law, he came down with a case of PSH:
Once I learned about this concealed weapons thing, I was checking out everybody, wondering if they were secretly carrying a gun. "How about those three noisy girls behind me in the movie theater? Were they packing lead?" "What about the busty woman on the other side of the restaurant. Did she have a gun in her bra or was she just glad to see me?" "What about that minister striding towards me? Was he a Gunslinger for God?" It makes for a somewhat uneasy visit.

Why would this make him "uneasy"? Well let's look at his Bio of life experiences:

I grew up in Chicago, went to college at Berkeley, and got my Masters at Northwestern. Then I followed my dream to become a serious writer by moving to Los Angeles and getting a job writing questions and "ad-lib" jokes for the game show, "Hollywood Squares.

Ah, that explains it. I wonder how much therapy Mr. Garver will need after visiting the other 39 states that have liberal CCW laws? He'ld probably have to be committed if he ever visited Vermont or Alaska where no license is required. Going to the NRA convention in KY would have given him an aneurism.

Mexican crime who's fault again?

Seems the cavalry turned out to be the vandals:

the soldiers themselves turned violent, townspeople say, ransacking homes and even torturing people.

Mexico's National Human Rights Commission says it has documented more than 600 cases of abuse

"These guys don't care about anything," said Lalo Lucero, 44, as he watched soldiers in the city detain a neighborhood youth recently. "They came into my house without a warrant, searched through everything and told me to sit on a couch and not say anything."

But all their problems would be solved if we just stopped selling handguns.

Daley digs in his heels on gun ban

He'll fight to the last tax dollar to restrict people of their rights. Gangmembers across the city broke out in spontaneous celebrations of support for the decision.

Chicago Legislators..

Rep. Monique Davis, the same individual who stated that atheism is dangerous, opens her mouth again, claiming that Legislators from Southern Illinois encourage crime to keep prisons full:

“There are some people in the Illinois General Assembly who have prisons in their district, and their whole objective is to keep them filled,” Rep. Monique Davis, D-Chicago, alleged in a morning committee hearing. She was referring to several downstate lawmakers from prison districts who were opposing a bill that would make it easier for ex-convicts to get business loans.

“‘We got to have those prisoners. They’ve got to come down here from Chicago,”‘ Davis said in the committee, summarizing what she alleged is the attitude of downstate legislators. “. . . ‘We no longer plant corn, we no longer have farms, we don’t raise cows and pigs, we keep prisoners.”’

She added: “They don’t want to stop crime because (that would stop) their livelihood. ... It is sad when your whole economy is based upon imprisonment of Americans.”

And these are the kinds of people being voted into office from Chicago.

Criminal Empowerment + Unenforced Laws = Murder

Man gets pissed off and kills a family w/ an "Assault Weapon" in San Francisco.

The facts behind it?

Man was an illegal immigrant in a sanctuary city.
Believed to be MS-13 member.
Been Convicted for two previous felonies but never deported.
Had been caught w/ a firearm traced to multiple murders and RELEASED w/ NO CHARGES.

But remember, it was all due to the fact that he had an illegal "assault weapon". Otherwise he would be a pillar of the community if it wasn't for the damned NRA handing out guns to schoolkids, felons, and the criminally insane.

It took the murder of teenagers by an illegal immigrant released on multiple bails for child molestation and assault for NJ to drop its sanctuary policies. How many more murders like this will it take California to follow suit?

Daley gun purchases are ineffective...

They're not "buybacks" since they didn't own them in the first place. Uncle says they don't work. The rest of the educated world agrees. Here's proof:

Multiple Shootings Leave 3 Dead In Austin Neighborhood

Chicago shooting kills 1, injures 1 near Oak Park border

Oak park also bans handguns and considers the private ownership of firearms to be the same as belonging to a gang.

1 killed, 1 wounded in separate shootings

So at least 5 killed w/ illegal firearms during and after an event that is supposed to have immediate results on crime.

Maybe one day they'll realize that the only effect "gun buybacks" have is giving murderers and other criminals a free pass on their past crimes.

Eric Zorn of the Trib has compiled a "Webliography" of the failures of "gun buybacks".

Chicago Gangs respond to Blagojevich

State trooper's car set afire

An Illinois State Police trooper's squad car was set on fire outside his home Tuesday night on Chicago's Northwest Side, authorities said.

I'm sure this will make the ISP just jump for joy over helping Chicago solve its 'concern'.

While at the same time, more "Chicago Public School" honor students are shot:

The 14-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks and the 16-year-old was shot in the arm, the captain said. The victims are allegedly Latin Saints and the shooter is allegedly a member of the Two-Sixer street gang. The shooting was part of an ongoing conflict between the gangs, the captain said.

At the end of the year, these two violent gangbangers will be added into the figures of "children shot w/ guns" to pull at the heartstrings of the public.

Backpedalling on Wrong Wray Avenue

Pat Wray posts a comment over on Bitters blog.

He states:
The article you reference was designed as a GENERAL overview of hunters and gunowners and was, I believe, pretty accurate. It was not intended to represent everyone, nor should it have been interpreted as a slam against any portion of the gun owning community.
OK, that's nice Pat. In your article you keep saying "We". So YOU support further restrictions on fully auto weapons. YOU don't understand the concept of CCW. YOU want some sort of registration/tracking system for firearms. YOU use loaded terms like 'stockpiling' when we're fighting laws that classify an 'arsenal' as 500 rounds.

So YOU need to get on the web and in the papers and clarify yourself in no uncertain terms.

Why would Wray even want to be on the board of the NRA?

"But we need to look beyond the Internet, into the genesis of the anger and fear that fueled the Internet attacks. If we look closely, we will find the National Rifle Association, or NRA. For decades the NRA has fostered a climate of fear and paranoia among gun owners. They have hammered home the message that everyone is out to take our guns and that compromise is tantamount to treason. They created an attitude within their membership that anyone who disagreed was an enemy and the best defense was a good offense. Nowhere has that message taken root as strongly as within the owners of the military style rifles, and it was they who came after Zumbo in their thousands."

Had Wray done any actual research (unless he just meant this as an NRA hit piece), he would note that the "feeding frenzy" as he put it, started on Arfcom and that quite a few of these ""Vicious, vengeful, vitriolic jackals" are NOT NRA friendly, considering them to be about equal to the Brady Campaign when it comes to firearm rights. Articles like this fostered the belief that it was the NRA that started the attacks against Zumbo and gave more proverbial ammo to groups like the Brady Campaign.

So you've changed your views on this Pat? Do you no longer consider the NRA to be "fostering fear" or are they still doing it and you want "change"?

Seems the PA group Moms Against Guns has taken a page from the MMM action plan. They are lobbying legislators for more gun laws. An action that may be in violation of their tax status.

Perhaps these groups should start investing in good tax attorneys before spending money elsewhere.

Update: Or not. They're a "For Profit" anti-gun group? WTFO.

Two Down

The town of Wilmette IL is having their board meeting tonight and are expected to vote down their handgun ban.

There's word that the Anti's are going to try and stir things up so let's get some representation there.

Another AHSA hit piece on the NRA.

There's just to much to fisk in this bit by AHSA mouthpiece Ray Schoenke. I'll just hit on a few of the choicer pieces.

"he confirmed what I and most gun owners have long believed: Citizens have an individual right to keep and bear arms, not only as members of organized militias, but that right is not unlimited."

The AHSA argued that the DC gun ban was a "laudable effort" and that acceptable limitations would be mandatory storage at facilities like "gun clubs" and police stations. All based on a "militia purpose" argument. Seems a little different from what Ray is claiming now, doesn't it?

"They undermine the NRA's all-or-nothing approach which has been so damaging to the gun debate for so long."

What Ray considers “damaging” is 48 states having CCW, the sunsetting of the AWB and failures of similar measures in the majority of states, etc. None of which was accomplished by his organization and which he opposes.

"As a law professor, Obama believed the Second Amendment conferred an individual right"

Actually what Obama states on his site is this:

"Barack Obama believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right, and he greatly respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms."

Unless you live in a city, own a handgun, semi-auto firearm, or aren’t a police officer.

A constitutional scholar would note that the BOR is considered inherent and doesn't 'create' nor 'confers' anything. Ray?

"At the hunters and shooters association, we aren't going to spend $40 million"

Mostly because you don't HAVE 40 million dollars. You don't have 40 million pennies.

Even using your highest claimed numbers (25K) and the NRA’s lowest (3M), they have 120X the membership you do. Who’s trying to remain relevant again? Hell, this blog is more relevant than the AHSA.

So tell me Ray, what has the AHSA actually done in the last few years besides attack the NRA and support politicians that support anti-gun legislation?

Reasonable gun laws

According to the District of Columbia, this is a 'machinegun':

These are the kinds of "reasonable, common-sense restrictions" that the Brady Campaign and the various Ceasefire organizations endorse.

Going the wrong Wray

Bitter has a piece up about Pat Wray, a true blue Fudd that's been highlighted by Armed and Safe for his many "pro-gun" stances like being against Concealed Carry, Assault Weapons, purchases of ammo, etc.

I think he's gotten confused. Shouldn't he be running for the AHSA board instead?

Edit: Bitter thinks it's a disservice to call him a Fudd. I can agree w/ that. He gives Fudds a bad name by trying to throw everyone under the bus.

Ban Ranger Joe's..

And any other dealer that sells tactical supplies without a background check and registration.

This equipment can only be utilized properly by highly trained authorities. The general public has no need for such things as vests and pistol belts.

These reasonable regulations will go a long way to preventing illegitimate home invasions.

Just another weekend in "Gun Free" Chicago.

Seven murders . Shootings at police. Riots. Stranglings.

But it's all the fault of those "Rural White Males".

Airplane Porn

From the VF-84 Jolly Rogers:

Having grown up watching ROBOTECH, the Jolly Rogers have always been a particular favorite of mine. I never got the privilege of sailing with them.

And the SR-71 Blackbird:

IMO, the coolest airplane ever built.

A disconnect from reality

Weis has said that the city's 13 percent rise in homicides, while a concern, is not the sign of a crime epidemic.

Howabout the 8% rise in robberies? The rises in every category except rape and arson?

But those are only "concerns". What is his definition of an "epidemic"?

So instead, Blago and Daley will continue to take potshots at eachother and blame the rest of the state for the City's problems while Weis will keep fiddling with his 'concerns'.

What I bought at the gun show..

Beef Jerky.
A book on Sieges throughout history.
Some shotgun ammo.
A video on the history of US Aircraft Carriers.
Lunch.

I also spent some time talking to Chief AJ, a local firearms enthusiast who runs a shooting camp for youth and adults. What makes the Chief stand out? Well not only that he customizes firearms by the dozens, and shoots trap w/ slingshots, but that he's 70 years old and has more energy and enthusiasm than most teenagers.

Felons can't read..

WASHINGTON - Twice convicted of felonies, James Francis Barton Jr. faces charges of violating a federal law barring felons from owning guns after police found seven pistols, three shotguns and five rifles at his home south of Pittsburgh.

As a defense, Barton and several other defendants in federal gun cases argue that last month's Supreme Court ruling allows them to keep loaded handguns at home for self-defense.

From the decision:

"The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast
doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by
felons
and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms
in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or
laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of
arms."

From Volokh:

"Many felons may need self defense more than you and I, but the government has extra justification for limiting that right because they have proven themselves to be untrustworthy," Volokh said.

While some will argue that not all felonies are equal, and that's true, this isn't a case of "self-defense". Had he had one or two guns, that might be legit. He had 15.

Sorry buddy, you're going to lose.

Makes me wonder who's financing this.

More fun w/ partial quotes..

Over on that heap known as HuffPo, the usual suspects are still trying to push the "Collective Rights" hypothesis using partial quotes from the Congressional Records. Here's a recent one:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Thus this "necessary security" is not only recognized but guarded and protected." (Rep. Morris S. Miller, of New York, in debate in the House, December 8, 1814)

One would think that Rep Miller was saying that the 2A only had to do w/ the militia. That is unless one read the entire speech which runs about 24 pages in length*.

The debate itself was over a proposal for universal conscription into the general Army of which Miller was opposed. Shortly after the above quote, he asks this question:

Now I should like to know, whether the military population of the country is not the militia of the states?

He then goes on to state that a universal conscription would not only diminish the State Militias but would be "A daring violation of the rights of this people".

So once again. The people are the militia. A right inherent and recognized by the Constitution.

Context is fun.

One down..

Fairfax, VA. – Today the Village of Morton Grove moved to avoid imminent legal action by the National Rifle Association by amending its Village Code to remove the current handgun ban and incorporate sections of the Illinois Criminal Code.

“We are pleased that the Village of Morton Grove took steps to repeal its draconian gun ban,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA’s chief lobbyist. “Finally Village residents can exercise the same constitutionally-protected rights that the rest of the country enjoys.”

Final action by the Village of Morton Grove Board on this ordinance is expected at the July 28 meeting. The NRA is committed to restoring the individual Second Amendment rights to all law-abiding Americans, as recently recognized by the United States Supreme Court in Heller v. District of Columbia.

Cox concluded, “On behalf of the tens of thousands of NRA members and gun owners in Illinois, I’d like to thank all of those who dedicated their time to seeing this illegal gun ban repealed.”

Gun Ban did what?

Apparently nothing if you trust the numbers from Chicago:

if the current murder rate holds in the city, 2008 may end with fewer than 500 homicides and that it is expected to be one of the least deadly years in the city in the last 40 years.

Three things.

1. 40 years ago was 13 years BEFORE the ban. So for a period of 25 years, it didn't do squat w/ Chicago being the murder capitol of the US more than once. That is, unless they want to argue that things would have been WORSE w/o the ban.

2. "fewer than 500 homicides"? True. One fewer.

3. "If the current murder rate holds"? From January through March, the rate had dropped 1.1%. Through April it shot up to an INCREASE of 8.9%. (So really a 10% increase in a month). May went up to 12.7% and June 12.8%. Yay! it only increased another .1%. That gives them the ability to say it's "remaining flat". But only in the comparison to the month before.

Gotta love Chicago.

IL Gov calling for Police State.

In the War on Rights:

"We're obviously not going to turn away help on a front as important as this," (Spokesperson) Heard said. "At the same time, we're a little puzzled about how it would work. It's unprecedented. Obviously, help in the form of reducing the number of guns on the street go a long way to addressing the problem."

This is in response to the Blago's suggestion of moving State Police and possibly Nat'l Guard Units into the city to help combat the recent rise in crime.

Maybe they should focus on reducing the number of criminals on the streets since 90% of murders are committed by prior criminals. But that wouldn't mesh w/ Daley and Blago's citizen disarmament plans.

Where have we seen that before?

As an aside, has anyone else noticed that the phrase "epidemic proportions" has become the PuSH'ers buzz phrase de jour?

Contract on America

Armed and Safe notes that our favorite Reverend, "Snuffy" Pfleger, has put a $5000 bounty on what he describes as "Gun Runners". Being that he considers anyone in the firearm business as a "Gun Runner", one wonders how many bounties he will have to pay out.

As usual, he's put the cart before the horse. To wit:

"We have to create an atmosphere where people are afraid to do crimes because they understand the community sees them as an enemy. Until we create that, people think they can get by with it. It's not acceptable," said Fr. Michael Pfleger, St. Sabina Church.

Here's the thing Snuff. The real criminals you want the community to see as the enemy are part of the community. They are the sons, daughters, friends, uncles, etc. of the people who are not turning them in now. The 'community' is wearing "Stop Snitchin' " shirts in courtrooms to keep people from testifying. The 'community' is telling the police they didn't see a thing when crimes are committed on their streets. They're not going to start turning them in because you've offered them a measly five grand. That's not worth their life. Really. Look at how many mothers you see on TV crying out about their "good boys" being killed when they were lifelong criminals with a record a mile long?

Be honest w/ yourself. You're not going to go after "gun runners", "straw purchasers", or anyone else who is committing actual crimes in your 'community'. You're going to continue to harass legitimate businesses and haranguing about the evils of guns. Just like your buddy Rev. Jackson.

Ignorance Speaks

From a letter in the Chicago Trib:

I have a simple message to everyone who is applauding the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the 2nd Amendment: I am perfectly willing to not only let you have a gun but as many guns as you want. There's just one catch. You must prove to me, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you are a member of "a well-regulated militia," as provided by the full wording of the 2nd Amendment. If you cannot, or will not, do this, then you do not get to have a gun.

That is the best solution in the world.

—Steve Herr

Well first of all the author shows he didn't read the ruling beyond what the newspaper told him. The Supreme Court stated that firearm ownership was independent of militia membership. You know, that whole "Right of the People" part that YOU ignored.

Second, Federal law states that the majority of males are already members of the militia as well as the Illinois State Constitution. So much for you passing your High School Constitution class.

Third, why must I "prove to you" anything you arrogant prick? Perhaps you should have proven that you had a glimmer of basic education before you put crayon to paper.

And morons like this assist in deciding the future of this nation.

And to note, there are two more anti-gun letters printed on the same day. But the Trib isn't pushing an agenda, right?

US Prosecutor on Terrorist Watch List.

I don't trust lawyers either but this is extreme. :)

WASHINGTON - The name of the Justice Department's former top criminal prosecutor turned up on the government's terror watch list.

The Anti's like the Brady Bunch, Bryan Miller, and Josh Sugarmann think Mr. Robinson should now be denied his 2A rights as guaranteed by the Constitution because his name appears on this list. They say he's an obvious threat to this nation.

Mr. Robinson is joining w/ the ACLU to try and get rid of the list because of it's obvious attack on the rights of American citizens. Think they recognize the irony of that in lieu of their recent position on the 2A?

What happens when you forget to remove the Boresight?

Boom!

Good thing it was a rental

The story
. Some soldiers decide to go joyriding at night on a firing range. F-16 pilot happens to be getting some weapons quals in at same time. The result:

To be fair to the Chicago Tribune..

They do have a token minority pro-gun editorialist on their payroll. Steve Chapman is graciously allowed to post his pieces showing that antigun research is based mostly on fraud.

As it turns out, the claims about guns and suicide don't stand up well to scrutiny. A 2004 report by the National Academy of Sciences was doubtful, noting that the alleged association is small and may be illusory...

The National Academy of Sciences report noted that any link between firearms and suicides "is not found in comparisons across countries." The number of guns in a nation tells you nothing about its suicide rate.

So yes, areas w/ high firearm ownership will have higher numbers of firearm suicides but not necessarily suicides overall. While some high ownership US states have higher suicide rates than low ownership states, numerous low ownership countries (Most of Europe, Russia, and Japan) have much higher suicide rates than the US and rates in Australia remained steady for years even after their gun confiscations.

But we won't hear about that. All we'll hear about from the 'Mainstream Media' is the alleged suicide reduction in DC after the ban.

No media bias?

The Chicago Tribune called for the repealing of the 2nd amendment and completely ignored the hundreds of people that showed up at the Pro-rights rally on July 11th. 2500 people rallying in Springfield was not considered "newsworthy".

But when anti-gun rallies are held w/ a "few hundred" people, it's front page news. 15 yr old gang bangers are referred to as "CPS students" to garner sympathy instead of asking why they were outside on a school night at 2am with a gun.

And even still, the majority of comments support firearm rights.

The 4th estate needs a spring cleaning.

Getting the last word through Reasoned Discourse.

Not that it's that big of a surprise but it turns out the Coalition to Stop Gun Ownership doesn't like to be rebutted on their replies. After pointing out their hypocrisy, they kept their blinders on and then proceeded to censure my following comment as well as that on at least one other blogger.

Looking at the rest of their posts, it turns out that they always (except once) have the last word. How convenient. One wonders how many other 1st Amendment violations they've had to commit in order to violate the 2nd Amendment.

So the CSGV joins in the fine tradition of their cohorts at the Brady Campaign, Robyn Ringler, MATH, Bryan Miller, Alex Riley, et al. in not being able to compete in an open forum but instead have to resort to censorship, lies, and deceit to spread their message.

Really shows who is really afraid, doesn't it?

From the CSGV

We can enter into a genuine debate—unmarred by propaganda— over what legitimate restraints can and should be placed on firearm sales and ownership in order to keep America’s communities safe.

Yet this is the image shown on their "Issues and Campaigns" page:

With the caption "Assault rifles can be bought without background checks at gun shows throughout the country."

and another bit on their blog:

We never indicated the SKS rifle was originally designed as a machine gun (in fact, we never mentioned machine guns at all).

Actually they did:

a Chinese-made SKS assault rifle. Assault weapons are semiautomatic versions of fully automatic military rifles,

Think they recognize the hypocrisy? Turns out they don't:

Thirdpower, no we see no contradiction at all.

H/T to Armed and Safe

AHSA wants Brady "Reasonable Regulations"

Massachusetts has done so without banning guns and it is now time for Congress to follow it's lead.
-John Rosenthal AHSA

I guess John forgot the fact that MA , Former A grade and currently tied for 3rd on the Brady Rating Scale , has an "Assault Weapon Ban", bans standard capacity magazines, bans inexpensive firearms, has restrictive and arbitrary licensing for both ownership and CCW.

Throw in the usual attacks against the NRA as "extremists" and it is the usual AHSA rant.

From Armed and Safe:

Before the 1998 law was passed, there were approximately 1.5 million licensed gun owners in the state, but because of the persecution and the expense ($100 for a gun license), the number has been reduced to about 240,000 and the armed criminals are having a field day.

GOAL cited a 2007 report from the Mass. Dept. of Public Health showing that firearm-related assaults have increased 78 percent since 1998. And Injury Surveillance Program reports showed: a 67 percent increase in firearm-related homicide from 1998-2006; a 236 percent increase in assault-related firearm hospital discharges since 1998; a 331 percent increase in assault-related emergency room visits since 1999, and a 590 percent increase in assault outpatient observations since 2001 (the most recent report available).

Do we see a pattern forming here?

The Great Illinois Circus

Ladies and gentlemen, please direct your attention to the center ring where King Richard II will attempt to deny Chicago has a gang problem on one hand while using the other to claim the city's handgun ban is a good idea.

In ring number two we will shine the spotlight on Governor Rod "Unindicted Official A" Blagojevich as he attempts to force Speaker Mike "The Obstructionist" Madigan to throw more taxpayers' money at people and causes that A-Rod deems worthy, even though they are totally undeserving.

In ring number three we have Todd "The Irkl" Stroger smirking his way to huge tax increases aimed solely at giving his friends and relatives the kind of life they could only dream about if they were forced to get real jobs.

While these clowns finish off what's left of the great State of Illinois, we've also started a roadshow featuring Barack "I'm looking for spare change" Obama, who promises to begin the demolition of the entire United States of America.

Your ticket to our circus is free; you only need to do what you've been doing all along -- absolutely nothing. Keep watching your TV, listening to your I-Pod and texting on your cell phone and leave the rest to us.

This is great fun for boys and girls of all ages!

-Ringmaster Ned

Where's the outrage?

The Brady's crowed endlessly about how the DC circuit court ignored precedent and that it was just "judicial activism". Now that another Circuit Court has ignored a direct SCOTUS decision, will we hear the same cries?

Take that and stuff it Daley.

Well that was fun.

Some decent sized storms came through last night. After moving several large branches from the road, I still couldn't make it all the way home. A tree had fallen across that I couldn't move. So I walked the rest of the way to discover the power was out.

So the wife lit up the candles, I lit some lanterns, and the kids played w/ Glo-sticks and flashlights.

Sometimes it's nice having no electricity. For awhile.

Spreading the Joy

Milwaukee police chief says quadruple killings tied to Chicago's 'Murda Mobb'

Yep. Daley has done so well controlling crime in his "gun free zone" that these chess club rejects left the city to become "the most organized, most vicious, most aggressive gang on the north side of Milwaukee,".

The other state that has no CCW for regular citizens. Go figure.

Congratulations to the Para-USA winners.

You all suck. :)

Friday, July 11 - Second Amendment Freedom Rally in Chicago

From the ISRA

Friday July 11, 2008 from 11:00am - 1:00 pm at the
James R. Thompson Center
100 W. Randolph St. in Chicago

The first rally of its kind in the history of Chicago!

Come celebrate the the US Supreme Court's recent ruling that the
Second Amendment to the Constitution protects an individual right.

Join the launch of a renewed
push for Concealed Carry legislation in Illinois!

Featured Speaker:
Dr. Suzanna Hupp - Former Texas Legislator

Dr. Suzanna Hupp is recognized worldwide as one of the leading advocates for an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon. In 1991, after leaving her gun in her car in order to comply with the law, Suzanna watched helplessly as both her parents, along with 21 others were gunned down in a mass shooting at a local restaurant. As a survivor of this tragedy, her impassioned calls for the right of citizens to self-defense have thrust her into the national debate on the right to keep and bear arms. Since the Killeen massacre, she has testified numerous times across the country for the restoration of the Second Amendment.

Event Details & Transportation

It is important that we put our best foot forward and present the best image of Illinois firearm owners - friendly, courteous, and respectful of the other attendees and our surroundings. Gun Banning President + 1 Senator

As much as Barack Такая партия Obama says he supports the 2A, we all know the reality. What hasn't much been talked about until recently though is his replacement in the Senate.

Should he become president, IL Gov. Blagojevich, the same man who pushed for the FOID fee to be raised to $500 and has vetoed every pro-gun bill sent to his desk, gets to select his replacement for the remainder of his term.

We can all guess what kind of politics that individual will have.

UMPC expanding.

Thanks to TexasFred, several more blocks of the online community have discovered our little corner of the world.

As has been stated. the PuSH'ers of the world have nothing like this. What few anti-gun blogs are around are almost exclusively paid mouthpieces for anti-gun groups. The rest have less traffic than I did on my first day and that consists mostly of us. The Brady Campaign and their ilk have the traditional media (made up of 'professional, authorized journalists') tied up. That's OK. Neither can get their facts right and the general population is recognizing that. Only half the population trusts them and less than a third think they are unbiased in their reporting.

We're not doing this because we're paid. We're doing it because we're dedicated. And we're growing.
