Joan Peterson, Brady Campaign Board member, says this about pro-rights bloggers (via an excellent post regarding her mental instability from Weer'd):

So there you have it dear readers. These are the people who read my blog and then go and comment on other people’s blogs. These are the people who the NRA represents. These are the people who think they can threaten, demean, name-call, abuse, belittle, and mock. During and after the candlelight vigils to honor victims of gun violence, the gun rights extremists ramped up their rhetoric...

Well Joan's a regular commenter over on the CSGV's FB page. Let's take a look at some of the polite, respectful comments she joins HER voice to:

The dangerous part about them is they were laughing and smirking just before they started shooting, no conscience? I feel bad for anyone that has to live near them.

Jane Thorne-Gutierrez That's the LATE Charelton Heston whom I hope, was buried with his precious weapons!

Just a small selection of the classy comments endorsed by the CSGV, Ladd Everitt and Joan, often on posts deliberately libeling and misquoting people along w/ a hefty dollop of 'reasoned discourse', never-mind regular commenter Andrew Goddard, religious bigot and another Brady Campaign leader.

Yet these individuals claim to have the moral high-ground while feeding off the bottom of the barrel. And they wonder why they have seen decreased public support for their cult.

'Only One' Uses His Hand To Smack the Wife And Kid

Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi faces one count each of domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness, San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said.

Good thing he supports 'Safe Storage'.

International Comparisons

Sebastian TBFKASIH takes an Anti to task for cherry picking data.

Back when I first started DOOT, one of the first posts I made was an email I received from the Swiss Federal Statistics Office over a discrepancy in the UN homicide report. The UN had combined completed and 'attempted' homicides into one number, doubling the Swiss rate.

Dear Mr Thirdpower,

Thank you for your mail
Unfortunately, data from the UN reports are not correct. The figure of 213 refers to 'completed' and 'attempted' homicides and the figure of 127 to the attempted ones.

We apologize for the error and thank you very much for having brought it to our notice.

And another email from INTERPOL:

In response to your enquiry, INTERPOL's International Crime Statistics are no longer being made available to the public.

The decision to remove the statistics was taken as some users and some members of the media were making comparisons between countries based on these statistics, when different collection methods make such comparisons problematic.

So it's comparing apples and oranges depending on who is doing the reporting and what they're adding/withholding from it. But don't let facts get in the way of a good anti-rant.

Ladd Everitt, CSGV Comm Dir. (mis)interprets Sebastian TBFKASIH :

Pro-gun activist warns victims of gun violence: "Once your grief crosses over into trying to remove my freedoms and shred part of the Bill of Rights you can no longer claim the right to be left alone."

Since what he actually said had nothing to do w/ 'gun violence', one wonders where Ladd came up w/ that idea. It's simple, he needs to believe anyone w/ a gun will start shooting if they're disagreed w/ or upset in any way. It's what he'ld do in the same situation. That's called projection. Why do I say that? This is the same person who thinks that individuals (especially firearm owners) who disagree w/ the (current) administration should be tried for treason and executed.

Does that sound like someone YOU'D trust w/ a gun?

It's The 'Gun Lobby'.... Booga Booga

Over and over we keep hearing about this all powerful, overreaching 'gun lobby' that controls everything and anything that has to do with firearms, from knowing the amount of ammo a casual shooter uses to the exact number and model of every single firearm sold in the US. It's blamed for corrupting youth, eroding the ozone layer and wanting to eat your women and run away w/ your livestock.

Usually when asked what this 'gun lobby' is though, the only answer you'll get is some vague reference to the NRA like this comment from Ladd Everitt, CSGV Comm Dir.:

“Nah. This is more like good, old-fashio­ned corporate corruption­. Money to be made and far-right-­wing political causes to be pandered to. Visit MeetTheNRA­.org for a better idea of how it works.”

So in other words, they make up whatever definition they think fits at the time, just like Humpty Dumpty in 'Through the Looking Glass'. It's just another generic smear to use whenever they don't like something firearm related, have no clue about the specifics but need it to sound scary. It's little different than referencing the Gnomes of Zurich or the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, two fabricated concepts designed to attack groups of individuals (in those instances bankers and Jews) that allegedly manipulate the world and control the information.

The most amusing thing about this is the fact that there is no all controlling 'gun lobby'. Yeah, the NRA is the '800lb guerrilla on the block' but then there's the dozens of other groups and organizations out there, from national to local levels, magazines, blogs, ranges, companies,you name it that have little to nothing to do w. the NRA. But the Anti's don't know nor care, they need a single, simple boogy man they can demonize in their single, simple minds.

All the while the overwhelming majority of gun control activism (including Ladd's CSGV) is controlled, organized and funded by a few major sources. No clue bat is heavy enough to get that idea through them though.

Dennis Fudging The Numbers

His claim: Thousands Lit Candles Against the Darkness of Gun Violence

Yet none of the photos shown of the 36 'vigils' had more than 50 people, including the photo for the "four events and eight churches which equaled more than 3,300 people" in Ohio. What is show are lots of empty pews. Why do they claim that number?

"Faith leaders asked the participants to remember all victims during their Sunday services."

So those people were there for their regular church service, not specifically a politically inspired 'vigil'.

We're talking 1500 people or less for a nationwide, 'groundbreaking' anti-gun campaign. An impromptu counter protest generated over 100 participants and the annual IGOLD event in Illinois has over 5000 attendees each year.

This is a last gasp for the Brady Campaign and they still can't tell the truth.

@CSGV's Research Skills Suck

Or they're lying. Likely both. Using a litany of excuses, Ladd Everitt/Josh Horwitz claim that firearm sales data is 'blocked' by the NRA/NSSF in a vast white wing conspiracy. Google is your friend. The NSSF puts out numerous industry reports available to the public. The CSGV would likely spend less of their Joyce grant money purchasing one of these reports than Ladd's spent in salaried man-hours 'outing' pro-rights bloggers.

Outside of the ATF manufacturing reports, there's these things called quarterly reports from publicly traded companies like Ruger :

and Smith & Wesson:

"Orders for our firearms remained strong in the quarter, evidenced by increased sales of our Smith & Wesson brand pistols and modern sporting rifles. In fact, firearm unit sales in our consumer channel were up 44.4% compared with the adjusted NICS* increase of 10.8% for the same three-month period ending July 31. "

So in both instances the increase percentage of units sold was higher than the percentage increase in NICS checks. A pretty strong indicator that firearm sales were up across the board despite Ladd/Josh's finger-in-ear & yelling denials.

But facts don't matter do they?

Violent Only One Fired

CANTON —A city police officer at the center of a controversial traffic stop involving a man with a permit to carry a concealed handgun has been fired.

He threatens a citizen w/ death and the union is still acting the apologist for him. Sad. If his PTSD is this severe, he is a threat to himself and others and should be institutionalized thereby making him a prohibited person.

What Kind Of People Does NORC 'Survey'?

The VPC likes to cite the GSS/NORC to prove gun ownership is decreasing while ignoring the huge disparity between that and Gallup results.

Taking a look at some of the datasets and questions, I found this one from 2004:

990. Suppose research proves that more legal restrictions on handguns would increase violent crime. Which of these two reactions would be closer to your position:
1. WOULD CHANGE MIND AND OPPOSE MORE RESTRICTIONS
2. WOULD STILL SUPPORT MORE RESTRICTIONS

62.9% said they would still support MORE restrictions. Think about that. Even if it is proven conclusively that gun control INCREASES violent crime, most people NORC surveyed would still push for more restrictions.

So is NORC sending their people to interview mental patients, is the public honestly that stupid or does the GSS not represent reality?

Frivoulous Lawsuits

Diagnosed Schizo shoots foreign exchange student in Oregon. Family of victim sues Pawn shop where shooter got the gun, exchange program and dance club where it happened and a bunch of other people.

Their reasoning? The people at the pawn show weren't trained psychologists and should have 'known' the shooter was a danger.

Why don't they sue the state for not submitting medical records to NICS? Or the medical institution that released the shooter? Because groups like those have money to afford really good lawyers.

I understand grief but these suits are just out for money.

VPC: Ban Guns For 24 yr Olds

I'm not kidding:

effective violence prevention strategies must include measures that prioritize preventing youth and young adults from accessing firearms, especially handguns.

Sugarmann continues the gun banner tradition of combining adults 18-24 into the category of 'youth' to skew the numbers.

Does anyone take them seriously anymore?

@CSGV Wasting More Joyce Grant Money

The true candlelight vigils really made Ladd Everitt (Comm Dir. at the CSGV) 's @sshole pucker so he responded in his usual way and spent quite a few man hours putting together a hit piece on bloggers, throwing out a bunch of names and partial quotes to show how mean and nasty we all are.

I personally think it's funny as hell. How much money did he waste this time on third stringers like us? A bunch of un-paid but much more dedicated and effective activists. How much Joyce money did we get him to throw down the toilet this time? What makes it even funnier is that I haven't gotten even a single hit from his mouth foaming screed.

Keep it up Ladd. You're a firearm rights activists best friend.
