The Threat of Lawsuits

When most communities in IL are in the middle of a financial crisis, the reality that they will lose their shirts over lawsuits regarding their stupid anti-gun laws will make some of them think twice:

Homewood modifies weapons ban
Homewood residents who faced fines of up to $750 for owning a working assault weapon and keeping it in the village can now keep them, as long as they aren’t brought into public places.
On the recommendation of village attorney Chris Cummings, the village board on Tuesday gutted the ordinance it passed last month banning assault weapons.
Most of the other laws passed are going to have big parts of them ruled unconstitutional.  Homewood was just smart enough to beat the lawsuits that are going to happen.

Gamers 3: Hands of Fate

The latest edition of the Gamers series of movies has been released by ZOE and company.  I was one of the earliest sponsors of this film when it came on Kickstarter and a good friend of mine is actually shown (for about 2 sec) in the crowd scene near the end.

The Gamers: Hands of Fate from ZombieOrpheus on Vimeo.

Cass and the group are on an extended gaming break because of this thing called life.  During that time he meets 'Natalie', a 'card flopper' and takes the challenge to win the world championship of the game to go on a date w/ her. To do so, he must defeat a team called 'The Legacy' who are dedicated to ruining the game for fans by changing the storyline to suit their own ends.

If you were expecting Gamers 2 part 2, this isn't it. The film is mostly focused on Cass at Gen Con.   The extended release is supposed to contain lots more footage of the rest of the group but I think this really hurts the film. I'm going to be a negative nancy and say I didn't feel for any of the new secondary characters (and that's all they are) introduced in the film. Unlike G2, more time is spent in the 'real world' than in the game world.  Although the story of that world is very well developed, I still didn't get a 'feel' for it.  Full admission though, I've never been a card game player.  Also unlike G2, there are very few memorable one liners that people will be calling out over game sessions.

And the 'Chibi-Chan' storyline was just plain annoying.

I think my biggest issue was w/ language.  There was some in G2 (and none in Journey Quest) but I could still let my kids watch it w/ me.  Not w/ this. This will limit me from watching it as well while the kids are around.

Overall I'ld give the Gamers 3: Hands of Fate a 2.5/5.  It will be a nice addition to my DVD collection but it won't be a regular view.

A different review viewpoint here.

Anti-Gun Hate Worth $1.5B in EcoDamage

Anyone w/ their heads NOT firmly planted up their backsides knows about the feral hog issue in the southern part of the US and the damage to crops and the environment these animals are doing ,over 1.5B/year, $500M in Texas alone.  Some states even have 'shoot on site' issuances from their DNR's.

None of this matters, however, to Josh Sugarman of the VPC and his fellow anti-gun fanatics as long as they can hate on firearm owners, especially Ted Nugent.

Josh really doesn't care about the environment or residents of LA, all he cares about is his hate for guns and the paycheck it brings him.

I Expect Their Usual Turnout

Obama's perpetual campaign, OFA, has Aug 21st as their 'Day of Action' on gun control (note nothing on Jobs or the Economy) . In IL, they have 'rallies' planned in Springfield and Chicago.

Various anti-gun groups have tried this before. The turnouts have been.....less than stellar for them.

Basically they're using Obama's big money to push his political agenda in the face of lagging support.  Take a look and see what's going on in your state.

Chicago Culture

Outside of the wonderful museums in the city, this is what passes for 'civilization' in the Windy City:

CHICAGO ISN’T SAFE: Cincy female tourists meet black youth mob in Chicago

Three Cincinnati women riding a rented bicycle on North Avenue Beach were confronted Saturday afternoon by a group of teens, one of whom is accused of stealing one woman’s iPhone, police said.
And where are these 'youth' getting these ideas from that other people's money is theirs to do w/ as they please?  Why from their role-models in the community:

Jesse Jackson Jr. Sentenced to 30 Months

Jesse L. Jackson Jr., the former United States representative from Illinois, was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 months in prison plus three years of supervised release following his guilty plea in February to one count of felony wire and mail fraud in connection with his use of $750,000 in campaign money.
It's the Chicago way.

As Long As 'Revoked' /= 'Expired'

I'm not a fan of the FOID, that being said, it's apparently news that police in Cook Cnty are actually following the law and taking cards from those that are prohibited persons.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday they have confiscated their 200th illegally-owned firearm this year as part of a pilot program targeting gun owners who have had their Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) cards revoked but have failed to relinquish their weapons.
I'm seeing pros and cons to this. The pros are if they are actual prohibited persons (ie mentally unstable/dangerous to others/selves, violent criminals) then good, they shouldn't have easy access to firearms nor be able to legally purchase them.

Cons.  If these are individuals who's cards have expired and they either haven't gotten them renewed/ still waiting on the new card to show (up to 6 months) or if they've gotten caught up w/ some sort of domestic/RO/OOP issue then it goes into grey areas and I don't trust the Cook Cnty authorities to keep/return the firearms (see NOLA PD).

I can honestly see lots of 'mistakes' occurring w/ 'internal investigations' showing no wrongdoing and the firearms just happened to be 'destroyed'.

Contempt, Pure and Unadulterated

Sebastian TBFKASIH links to an article in the Baltimore Sun that just drips w/ contempt and disdain for firearm owners:

Toddlers
irresponsible
betraying public safety
paranoid

But here's the real tipper,  'As a mother' and 'I'm a mom'... emotional arguments right out of the playbook. Just who is this average, everyday 'mom'?  Why the Maryland chapter 'leader' and longtime spokesperson of 'Mom's Demand Action' who's been w/ the group since they were called 'One Million Moms for Gun Control'  (a verboten word by the playbook, hence the name change).  So, iow, a professional anti-gun advocate who doesn't reveal her background in the article.

This is what anti-gun activists think of firearm owners. There can be no debate w/ those infected w/ this social disease.

Two Is One and One Is None

Definitely true in this case:
An Imperial, Missouri woman was charged with burglary, first-degree assault and armed criminal action after she snuck into a house late Friday and repeatedly stabbed the homeowner during a burglary.
The home owner’s son came downstairs during the attack and held the woman, Christina Fudge, at gunpoint until the police arrived....I spoke with a family member today. She said after the police arrived they took the family’s shotgun.
Now giving the police the benefit of the doubt, the firearm in question is evidence in a violent crime. As long as the family gets it back, this is normal for a criminal case. If this is the only firearm they own, the question is 'Why?'.  Perfect reason to go out and get another. Or a few more. Fill up those safes people.

Cryin 'FIRE' Over The UN

Look, I despise the blue helmets as much as any other intelligent being, but when something is purported to come from them that is so blatantly over the top and obvious, take a second before you repeat it.

From David Codrea over the latest kerfluffle regarding an alleged UN 'Confiscation' document:
The document reads like a conspiracy theorist’s worst nightmare on steroids, and while it’s not inconsistent with the documented goals of the most zealous factions in the globalist citizen disarmament camp, suspecting its authenticity is prudent. Conversely, unthinkingly assuming that it’s real, without doing any verification, is irresponsible and foolish, and plays into the hands of those spreading disinformation, or who just want to have a good laugh by getting trusting gun owners all worked up.
Like a commenter stated, they wouldn't be this blatantly obvious. They'ld us lots of vague language and buzzphrases to obfuscate the issue.

I'm still waiting for the required listing of my firearms on my 1040 and for Soros to shut down all the gun companies he owns.

Sunday Recoil Therapy

Took out the Mosin because my shoulder got me mad and to try out a new bench rest.

Much more comfortable than the old V-stick that was attached to the bench previous. Also learned something new, the PU style scope got shifted WAY off so I had to re-zero it. It was far enough off I had to go by gravel spray before I even got it on the board.  Once I got that, it only took a few rounds to get it back to zero. This time I noted the numbers for zero in case it gets shifted again.

Hopefully tomorrow some more lead will be expended.

Normal Chicago Weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) Four men were killed and at least 22 other people wounded in gun violence across the city since Friday night.
But here's the really defining statement:
No one is in custody for any of the attacks as area detectives investigate.
Since 2004. Chicago's homicides have leveled off at about 450/year, a rate of about 16.5/100k.  Back in May, the CPD was touting a huge decrease in murders and shootings 'compared to the previous year' and 'lowest numbers since the 1960's'.  The 'previous year', however, had seen a spike of over 500 murders and the weather this winter/spring had been cold, rainy and miserable. Now with the nice, pleasant summer we've had, the killing is back to the average w/ about 240 so far this year w/ no sign of it slowing.

Welcome to Chicago.
