Could it possibly be to keep people from reading his ideas about violently assaulting people on the sex offender registry because he considers them a direct threat to his family? We all see who the true coward is.

To go along w/ Bryan's, Josh Sugarmann must have paid his electric bill after an absence of 2 1/2 months.

So, will we hear rails against this from Laura Washington, Jessi Jackson, or Al Sharpton? Or will they just continue to blame Rural White Males for all the crime? I'm betting the former.

The Second Amendment is racist..

Has been a recent meme by the PuSH'ers that I've seen more and more recently. ArmedandSafe (who also put together a nice post on it) reminded me where it came from. Another claim by the VPC referencing almost exclusively the appropriately named Prof. Bogus.

The primary thing that discredits the work? It relies heavily on claims and citations by everyones favorite author Michael Bellesiles.

So I issue my own:

I challenge the Brady Campaign to stop misrepresenting what different firearms are capable of.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to address the issues that are holding up the NICS act.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to acknowledge that basing restrictions off of error-ridden lists is irresponsible and unconstitutional.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to stop trying to ban private purchases of firearms by connecting them to FFL dealers that they are at the same time trying to drive out of business.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to find any evidence that limited purchasing laws have in any way effected crime.

I challenge Paul to read the responses on his linked Op-Ed and figure the ratio of his supporters to those who support the rights of the populace.

I guess this is Paul's lame attempt to get the candidates to pay attention to him. Anyone want to lay odds on it working?

It must suck for an organization that once stood next to presidents as they signed bills named after their leaders to become inconsequential.

Romney caught lying again...

Bitter pointed out that he had previously claimed to have passed an AWB when he didn't (only made it permanent) and now he changes his story saying he doesn't support AWB's. The lie? On "Meet the Press, he claimed to have the NRA endorsement for his 2002 run for governor. He didn't.

Romney also told Russert he had "the support of the NRA" and "received the endorsement of the NRA" as governor, but the gun-rights group did not endorse him during his 2002 gubernatorial campaign. Romney received a "Grade B" from the group, but his opponent, Democrat Shannon O'Brien, received an "A."


Update:

His spokesman is now attempting damage control ("I voted for it before I voted against it") over at WaPo:

"The NRA did not endorse in the 2002 campaign," said spokesman Kevin Madden, when asked about Romney's comments. "Mitt Romney as a candidate received a respectable B grade rating from the NRA, and when he was governor he had the support of the NRA and the Gun Owners Action League in relaxing some of the state's burdensome licensing regulations."

What Madden didn't say was that Romney's Democratic opponent in the governor's race, Shannon O'Brien, was given a more than respectable "A" grade by the NRA, according to its website.

Paul Helmke uses the tried and true method of the VPC claiming that the weapons used in the latest shootings are the same ones that are being used by terrorists and the military in Iraq. He quotes some typical "authorized journalists" who either don't know the difference (ignorant) or are intentionally misrepresenting it to make headlines (liars).

We know Paul knows the difference so what category does that put him in?

He goes on about how dangerous the 7.62 x 39 round is. I guess he would prefer them chambered in .30 then to increase the chance of death.

Note the calls for restrictions on the number of guns and ammunition you can own.

And why does he follow his tradition of posting this nonsense late Friday? Because the blogs are traditionally slower on the weekends so he hopes his resident sycophant can get a few words in before we demolish the post with assault facts typed from the hip.

A point in Kucinich's favor...

He actually has a bit on his site directly saying what gun control he wants unlike Hillary , Edwards*, or Obama albeit though not on the first page. Of course he also has to throw in the usual bits about "Assault Weapons" and "Gun Industry Immunity" mixed in with the usual "I support hunters and the 2A" BS.

ABC News stalkers creating victims

Yep, they did it. ABC news followed people who purchased firearms outside of Chicago, followed them home, then published their names. All of this in an effort to point the fingers at the gun shops for crime instead of criminals.

Anyone want to place bets on the Cook County Board members using this to push their gun bans and efforts to close all the shops?

More on the Cook County gun ban legislation. Reading through it more carefully, the definitions they give certain items read like they were made by Rep. McCarthy. For Example:

Assault ammunition means any ammunition magazine having a capacity of more than twelve (12) rounds of ammunition.

They expand the definition of "antique firearms" to those only having unavailable ammo or are rendered inoperable:

Antique firearms means any firearm, including, but not limited to, any firearm with matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap or similar type of ignition system, which is incapable of being fired or discharged; or any firearm manufactured before 1898 for which cartridge ammunition is not commercially available and is possessed as a curiosity or ornament or for its historical significance or value.

Assault weapon is anything they say it is:

(3) Any weapon that the President, the Board, or the Sheriff defines by regulation as an assault weapon because the design or operation of such weapon is inappropriate for lawful use.

Has the potential to ban laser pointers:

Laser sight accessory means a laser sighting device which is either integrated into a firearm or capable of being attached to a firearm.

AP ammo is anything that can penetrate Class I:

Metal piercing bullet means any bullet that is manufactured with other than a lead or lead alloy core, or ammunition of which the bullet itself is wholly composed of, or machined from, a metal or metal alloy other than lead, or any other bullet that is manufactured to defeat or penetrate bullet resistant properties of soft body armor or any other type of bullet resistant clothing which meets the minimum requirements of the current National Institute for Justice Standards for "Ballistic Resistance of Police Body Armor".

And then absolute nonsense:

Solenoid use-limitation device means a device which precludes, by use of solenoid, the firing of the handgun unless a magnet of the appropriate strength is placed in proximity to the handle of the weapon.

Let's see if the Brady's support this one.

Cook County legislates to increase crime

In an attempt to follow in Chicago's footsteps of high crime levels, Cook County IL Commissioner William Beavers has introduced legislation to register all firearms.

Now the trick is, YOU CAN'T REGISTER ANY FIREARM EXCEPT HANDGUNS AND NOT THOSE UNLESS THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN REGISTERED as well as having unavailable technology:

Sec. 58-132.5. Unregisterable firearms.

No registration certificate shall be issued for any of the following types of firearms:

(a) Sawed-off shotgun, machine gun, or short-barreled rifle;

(b) Firearms other than handguns, owned or possessed by any person in the County prior to the effective date of this Ordinance which are not validly registered prior to the effective date of this Ordinance;

(c) Handguns, except:

(1) Those validly registered to a current owner in the County prior to the effective date of this Ordinance, and which contain each of the following:

(i) A safety mechanism to hinder the use of the handgun by unauthorized users. Such devices shall include, but shall not be limited to, trigger locks, combination handle locks, and solenoid use-limitation devices; and,

(ii) A load indicator device that provides reasonable warning to potential users such that even users unfamiliar with the weapon would be forewarned and would understand the nature of the warning;

(2) Those owned by peace officers who are residents of the County,

(3) Those owned by security personnel,

(4) Those owned by private detective agencies licensed by the State of Illinois;


So since the only registered handguns in Cook County are in Chicago prior to '81, they've just introduced an all out firearms ban except for "Only Ones". I'm sure this will pass in the People's Soviet.

So, along w/ Commissioner Suffredin's attempt to ban all gun shops, are "authorized journalists" from ABC complicit in this to stir up support?

Cho was not armed w/ an "Assault Weapon" and managed to kill many more people. Why? A "Gun Free Zone" and a slow response time by the authorities.

Brady Campaign takes on NTRA

Recognizing that the actual NRA is too much for them to deal with, Tim Heyne, a member of the Brady Campaign, sets his sights on the much smaller and less organized National Toy Rifle Association, mostly made up of 8-10 year old boys. In his yearly letter to Santa (BC members still believe in myths unsurprisingly), he pleads to keep these deadly weapons out of the hands of potential future sociopaths as playing with toys has been long associated to later massacres:

But it just seems too horribly logical that, as children become desensitized from the deadly reality/awareness of what a handgun is by playing with one, it may make it that much easier for them to pick up and "play" with a real gun, being involved in a situation that could escalate horribly as the pellet gun might be mistaken as real, or may help make for an easy transition to a real handgun as the child becomes older.

Obviously the concept of education has escaped another member of the Brady Campaign. Perhaps it's a membership requirement.

Laine said he wants the law to target military weapons designed for killing many people, guns and ammunition designed to thwart police, and loopholes in the law that make it easier for criminals to get guns and hide their illegal activities.

Kaveman made an interesting suggestion on the Brady/HuffPo Blog so I decided to look up the IL Constitution. I found the annotated version from the IL.gov site.

Here's what it has to say about Militias:

SECTION 1. MEMBERSHIP
The State militia consists of all able-bodied persons residing in the State except those exempted by law.
The "militia" described here includes both the state"s organized militia who have received military training, and its unorganized militia"composed of all other able-bodied persons who are not exempt. The corresponding provision in the 1870 Constitution was narrower,including in the unorganized militia only able-bodied men aged 18 to 45.

"All able-boded persons". So that, unlike the Federal version, includes women. Yep, I'm a member of the militia so maintain a right to own firearms under that argument.

Then we get to firearms and how the PuSH'ers were intellectually dishonest even then:

SECTION 22. RIGHT TO ARMS
Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and
bear arms shall not be infringed.

The committee explanation stated that “a citizen has the right to possess and make reasonable use of arms that law-abiding persons commonly employ for purposes of recreation or the protection of person and property. Laws that attempted to ban all possession or use of such arms . . . would be invalid.”200

However:

However, the delegate who explained the committee proposal to the full convention stated four times on the floor that it would not prevent a complete ban on handguns.201 A nearly total ban on handguns in Morton Grove was upheld under this section by the U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago.202 The Illinois Supreme Court, by 4-3 vote, also held that the Morton Grove ordinance did not violate this section. Vigorous dissents by the minority judges illustrate the closeness of the question.203
The U.S. Court of Appeals also held that Chicago’s ban on buying handguns beginning in 1982 did not violate the U.S. Constitution, affirming a federal district court decision that had also upheld the ordinance against attack under this section.204

So you have a right to "Commonly employed firearms" yet don't have a right to "commonly employed firearms". Gotcha.

I'll ask again. How many candidates, leading, trailing, or otherwise, are begging the Brady Campaign, or any anti-gun group for that matter, for their endorsement?

Why would that be? Oh, right, because us "gun extremists" outnumber the "anti-gun extremists" 100:1. Even on their own web sites. That's called pandering to your constituency.

The DNC has launched FlipperTV to try and catch GOP candidates in flip-flops and flubs. On one video, Romney is asked about his support for the AWB and a GOP fund-raising machinegun shoot. He then starts rambling about Uzi's and other machine guns.

Apparently his "easing gun regulations" does not mean "assault weapons".

So, just like most politicians, he's a lying piece of crap that will say anything to get elected.

Paul's IT elves, in their constant effort to cover up their lack of support on the web, have posted another rant berating the DC appeals court for erasing the first 13 words of the 2A.

That sent up red flags in my memory so I started to do some searching. I found nothing but the nagging memory was still there. I knew I remembered something about it so I sent out requests to the Blogosphere. TO Sebastian came through w/ his strong Google-Fu. Dennis Hanigan, spokesman for the Brady Campaign, erased "People" when quoting the amendment. Telling isn't it.

And here's the really fun part. The associated link on the Brady Website is no longer active and just keeps sending you back to the front page. The YouTube video is also gone. Just to make sure, I got a screen cap of it:



Proving once again that they are complete and total hypocrites in their anti-gun bigotry.

They seem to forget. They've spouted off so many lies and so much nonsense, that whatever they say, we'll have counters to. Many of us work together and we use our resources to support our cause. We don't just rely on taglines and meme's provided from one group, unlike the majority of the Brady supporters.

Paul, in his never-ending wisdom (or more accurately his IT sycophants) has posted a new screed on HuffPo to try and cover the trashing they took in the previous post (as usual). In it, he makes the mistake of bringing up the "Purpose Clause" in the Miller decision. Just FYI, it reads:

With obvious purpose to assure the continuation and render possible the effectiveness of such forces [i.e., the "well regulated Militia,"] the declaration and guarantee of the Second Amendment were made. It must be interpreted and applied with that end in view.

The decision was based on the fact that there was no evidence presented and the lack of knowledge of military firearms by the justices as shotguns were regularly issued:

OF A "SHOTGUN HAVING A BARREL OF LESS THAN EIGHTEEN INCHES IN LENGTH"

Either way, that means Paul accepts the fact that military firearms are protected under the 2A and that the Miller court clearly stated :

These show plainly enough that the Militia comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense. 'A body of citizens enrolled for military discipline.' And further, that ordinarily when called for service these men were expected to appear bearing arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time.

Yet, as is usual for the PuSH'ers, they are lying to themselves and the public. They specifically want to ban "Assault Weapons" which, according to them:

The guns covered by the Assault Weapons Act were semiautomatic versions of fully automatic guns designed for military use.

and

The military features of semiautomatic assault weapons are designed to enhance their capacity to shoot multiple targets very rapidly.

So they're saying that "Assault Weapons" fit the Purpose Clause yet they are still trying to ban them.

So, the Brady Campaign is saying that the Militia, when properly armed, are a threat to public safety. That means that they are opposed to the basic founding principles of this nation. Not that that really comes as a surprise to anyone.

Unfortunately this means we have to raise enough money to offset the millions that our elected officials now get from the gun lobby. But politicians listen to their constituents and won't vote the gun interests if they see that people are fed up with the carnage wrought by weak regulation. A strategy that combines advocacy with money can force politicians to stop straddling the fence on gun issues.

We also need to get the message out that sensible gun laws work for all citizens, including those who own guns for hunting or self-protection. These legal gun owners need to join us to insist that the right to own firearms must be countered by sensible ownership protections. Without their support, we will never adequately address this issue, and the killing of our children will continue.

I just Googled "Uzi rate of fire" and found asset of specifications that say a "Micro Uzi" has a rate of fire of 1700 rounds per minute.

Had they known it would be possible to fire 1700 rounds per minute from a handgun, the Founders might have worded the second amendment more precisely. But they didn't know, and the wording is what it is.

So basically he's saying is that he has no idea that multiple sales send up red flags at the BATFE or he's flat out lying. What this translates to is support for :

1. One gun a month laws
2. Closing the "gun show loophole"
3. Lawsuits against dealers and manufacturers

All the while trying to get the Fudd vote. I expect him to receive an AHSA endorsement soon.
