Brady sockpuppet submit Amici

Also known as the AHSA. You know all about them. The ones whose board is made up almost entirely of anti-gunners, supports bans on "Assault Weapons" and '50 cals, wants safe storage, and put up the flash in the pan anti-NRA sign in Boston, yet still claim to be a "pro-gun" group.

Well, they decided to file an Amici brief in support of Heller. Sounds good right? They want to have the ban overturned. They have lots of former military big wigs that supposedly wrote it and we must support the military.

The problem? They oppose it only because the way it is worded, not because of its intention:

This is not to say that a gun law similar to one
enacted by the District of Columbia could not pass
muster under a traditional implied preemption
analysis; nor is it to say that the District could not
have crafted a gun law consistent with its Charter
and with the Second Amendment by not intruding
into federal functions.

Their whole argument is based on a collective militia function of the populace, the restriction on the ability to train w/ firearms in preparation for a call-up. Nothing about the rights of the individual:

Inasmuch as the D.C. Gun Law prevents D.C.
residents from participating in federally-operated,
federally-supervised, and federally-mandated programs,
it necessarily affects a unique federal function
and therefore is expressly barred by the D.C. Home
Rule Act.

They use the Brady buzz phrase of "reasonable regulations" and state the those are actually "required":

The argument advanced by amici would in no way prevent the D.C. Council from enacting reasonable regulations relating to possession, safety, and registration of firearms in the District. Indeed, it has a responsibility to the public to do so.

So, in conclusion, they have no problems w/ laws requiring registration, bans on certain types of firearms as long as it's not a complete class, high fees, or requiring people to store them at facilities such as police stations, gun clubs, etc. just so long as they have the opportunity to 'practice'. They even state the the ban was a "laudable effort". Sounds like they really support gun rights, doesn't it?

Maybe they were just trying to take a different tact from the numerous other Amici's in support of Heller. Of course if I believed that, I'ld also believe Michael Jackson just wants to be friends w/ my kids.

I'm betting the Dems that signed on are primarily freshmen and that none of the "Old Guard" gun banners were part of this.

So we know that the BC and CFNJ support full handgun bans. By not signing this, can we then infer that the other Congressthings also support the ban?

Late last week, gun violence prevention groups - the Brady Campaign, the Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and the Violence Policy Center - sent a letter to Secretary Kempthorne indicating that "given the heightened security risks in the post-9/11 world, as well as contemporary concerns about poaching on federal lands, we find the Reagan Administration regulation to be both necessary and appropriate."

A news release by a retiree organization states:

The current rules in no way prohibit guns in parks, but they do work to discourage that tiny percentage of irresponsible individuals who would engage in poaching and target practice at the expense of irreplaceable natural and historic sites."

Because CCW holders are the ones poaching and shooting people. Someone who breaks the law by poaching or is stupid enough to have "target practive" in a National Park isn't being "discouraged" by any restrictions.

These are the real "Gunloons" and they're going completely off the deep end.

Criminalize a lawful act..

Is what is being pushed in FL. Firearm dealers would be held liable for criminals using false identities to purchase weapons. Even if the semantics of wording is argued, the dealer will still have to prove they didn't "willfully and knowingly" sell the firearm to a prohibited person. The Sen. who introduced it clearly stated that the intention of this bill is the former:

'I don't think that they're really duped,'' Margolis said. ''What's happening is the gun sellers are not necessarily enforcing the laws that we have in this state, and we've never made them responsible for the enforcement.''

Translation: "We're going to make you a criminal even if you followed the law because guns are scary and we don't like them."

The House rep Evan Jenne who introduced it is a member of the "PostSecondary Education Committee". That's a scary thought.

But I'm sure that this is just a "no-brainer" bill that will never get out of committee and that we should trust our legislators never to pass a law that can be expanded on or abused. Right Gman?

The Modern Militia: Equipment I, The Uniform

As I stated previously, the primary purpose of the Modern Militia is as a complement to the Army. With that in mind, we should try and keep as close to US Army standards as possible to maintain uniformity and for ease of logistics.

The first part I'm going to cover is the basic uniform. Prices and gear listed in this section are from Ranger Joe's so they may be higher or lower depending on preferences of companies and specific items. I chose them as a base because they offer a fairly complete line of militarily accepted uniforms and field gear.

The ACU Army Combat Uniform. Standard issue for all Army ground forces.
I've seen some places selling 'Army style ACU's' that have a similar camo pattern but clothing design based off the old BDU's, a darker ACU camo and other variations. For the purposes of this section, I'm going to focus on military issue and equivalent.

The ACU consists of:

Boots (tan) $65.00 - $150.00
Patrol Cap $10.95
T-shirt (sand) $12.00 (3-pack)

For those not wanting to go the ACU route, there's also the option of traditional BDU's/DCU's (depending on environment), Multicam, or surplus MARPAT. New BDU's are usually about 10% or more cheaper than listed above with surplus available all over the place. Multicam, sometimes worn by Special Forces, follows the same uniform design as the ACU and is a superior camo pattern IMO so I admit I'm biased by adding it here. Prices are usually 10% or more higher. Authentic US Marine MARPAT isn't regularly available commercially that I'm aware of although various imitations are around as well as purchasing surplus. Probably not a good idea though to wear originals around other Marines if you weren't one yourself. They tend to get touchy.

Basic Ponchos run about $15 while Field Jackets are $65 for foul weather. Items such as Parka's and other heavier or more specialized weather gear can run anywhere $20 to over $250.

There are also a wide variety of specialty shirts, socks, boots, caps, nametags, padding, facemasks, glasses, goggles, and many other bits and pieces that are available for the ACU uniform.

So a basic MilSpec quality uniform will cost one about $200. Not really so much to ask.

The Modern Militia: Preface

The modern Militia. The bane of hoplophobes everywhere. What is its' purpose? Well, obviously the Founding Fathers meant it as a permanent force in lieu of a standing army and as a barrier against governmental tyranny. Times have changed to a point and we now have a permanent standing military. As has been shown though, even w/ that ,an irregular force is needed in emergencies to be organized for the defense of the nation and/or, in such instances as the LA riots or Katrina, our own homes and neighborhoods. Thankfully, except in the instance of Athens, TN and a few others, we have not needed to defend against tyranny but that potential is still valid.

Basically what it boils down to that the Modern Militia is there to complement the Standing Army and other first responders such as the Police, Fire Fighters, EMT's, etc. Supporting them in everything from acting as Sniper/Scouts, Civil Patrol, Traffic Control, Hose handlers, Litter Bearers, or any other job that may be required.

So obviously, unlike what the PuSH'ers wish I was doing, I won't be advocating overthrowing the Gov't , teaching how to build bombs, or rehashing paranoid conspiracy theories. I'm publishing my ideas on what we can do to help out our society in these aforementioned instances and to be as effective and efficient as we can when doing so.

This is a series I've been mulling over ever since I did my earlier uniform comparisons. I'm planning on covering areas such as uniforms, equipment, training, and anything else that I may come up with or have suggested to me that sounds like a good idea.

Really Paul, is the state of your organization really this sad that your fabrications don't even have a grain of truth to them anymore? Are you going to start resorting to Google studies now?

Here it is straight from the VPC, primary mouthpiece of the Joyce Foundation, the group that funds most of the anti-gun activities in the US:

Bring heavy and intermediate sniper rifles under the control of the National Firearms Act.

What is an "intermediate sniper rifle" you ask?

Why, they explain that as well:

Some manufacturers may choose to refine the .338 Lapua Magnum, an intermediate round falling in size and power somewhere between the traditional military 30 calibers and the .50 BMG. The .338 Lapua Magnum was designed in the late 1980s "as a long-range European military sniping round," according to sniping expert John Plaster. He advises that its "great speed and heavy weight makes for especially lethal long-range shooting and good penetration against vehicles and aircraft�typical counterterrorist targets�as well as building materials."²⁸² Some manufacturers already offer .338 Lapua Magnum sniper rifles.

According to Forbes, sniper magnate Ronnie G. Barrett plans later this year to make his "boldest move" yet, "when he steps out of the .50-caliber niche with a new .30-caliber tactical rifle designed for police SWAT teams. Barrett hopes that market will boost annual sales to $20 million over the next three years."²⁸³ The magazine does not say whether Barrett plans to offer the new SWAT sniper rifle to civilians, but if the past is any guide, it will be. It is not clear whether the new 30 caliber will be a .338 Lapua Magnum...

Therefore, a useful strategy for effective control may lie in civil litigation, a strategy that would be enhanced if states passed legislation clearly establishing strict liability for damages resulting from the use or misuse of such weapons. Such litigation could impose tort liability, including punitive damages, for manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, importers, retailers, and any others who participate in bringing to the civilian market any sniper rifle (in any caliber) or associated gear (such as ammunition or optics) that is used to kill or injure a human being or to damage property.

In short, the gun industry should be held to the strictest standards of legal accountability available for the design and marketing to civilians of military sniper rifles, as detailed in this report.

Military Sniper Rifle? You mean like the Remington 700.

Associated Gear? You mean like every scope out there? All Ammo?

But they're just talking about AP ammo, right? Sure, you keep believing that.

The existing ban on armor-piercing ammunition should be updated and expanded to cover all AP and API ammunition. This would most effectively be accomplished through the promulgation of a performance standard in which ammunition is tested for its ability to penetrate bullet-resistant vests, ballistic glass, and armor,^ee as opposed to the existing standard based on the bullet's content.

Guess what? Most "bullet-resistant vests" are designed to stop PISTOL rounds. Not rifle rounds. You're 30 cal of any sort would be categorized as AP ammo.

So yes Virginia, they are coming after your hunting guns. It's not likely they'll succeed, but, by their own admission, it's one of their goals.

Over on Tom Kings Blog, he has a regular poster who goes by the handle Gman. Gman is a self admitted 3 week a year shooter and attacks the NYSRPA, NRA, etc. for overreacting to legislation like gun bans and increased restrictions. He ignores the fact that the political allies of the anti-gunners in NY HAVE passed laws he considers "molehills" and then immediately pushed for more.

What he considers a "principled" stance is to throw gun owners he doesn't associate with under the bus to protect his personal interests for the time being yet can't seem to understand why we don't like him:

Yes, well, maybe it’s because I’m not a full-time shooter, just a three-week-a-year hunter.

But I believe the NYSPRA presents an intractable absolutist stance on too many issues on which the public at large has reached an opposite consensus, and cries wolf on molehill issues. For instance, I am willing to live with magazine restrictions if it preserves the larger right. That doesn’t win me many friends at the range.

And unfortunately, because of my principled stance I am viewed by most people inside the gun lobby as an enemy or naif instead of a moderate ally.

That is exactly the attitude that IANSA exploited to get their laws passed in Australia:

At first I wondered why Melody had replaced all my furniture and carpets. Then I realized that she had just cleaned up the place. I also discovered that she had rotated the tires and that my window glass was not opaque. They just needed some Windex. Who knew that houseplants were supposed to be watered.

Reasoned Discourse in VA

On MLK day, the MMM, Virginia Center for Public Disarmament (safety), and protesteasyguns.com held a "lie" in. Hundreds of pro-rights individuals showed up to counter their efforts. Over on Youtube, they posted a heavily edited video attacking not only the 2A but also the 1st Amendment rights of those opposing them. To keep people from noting the numerous fallacies contained in it, such as that closing the "Gun Show Loophole" would have stopped Cho from obtaining firearms, they've disabled comments. This of course follows their tradition of trying to silence the opposition when the facts don't fit their agenda. Other fine examples are the Brady Blog, Josh Sugarmann, Robyn Ringler, Alex Riley, JadeGold, Nancy Robinson (wheredidthegunsfrom) and Bryan Miller. All of whom have either shut down their comments, deleted and even edited posts, to stop the truth.

I started the book "Day of Reckoning", by Pat Buchanan; I have been so busy of late I have not been able to get in to it. He paints a bleak future for the democracy; one can hope he is wrong. Naomi Wolf agrees with him, and penned "The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot", another book on Melody’s pile TBD.

On the bright side I do remain optimistic when I see people coming out to stand up for the Second Amendment. I find humor when I hear a few whack jobs in south armpit Vermont want to arrest Bush for war crimes. Hey I don’t Love the guy, but the little hole called Brattleboro, basically is just a symbol that you’re “Out of the Peoples republic of Massachusetts”, and you can mash the peddle to the floor and be at Stowe in a and hour and change. Brattleboro is dead and just does not want to admit it. Truth be known the inhabitances of this little back water hole are proving that pot does kill brain cells, lots of them! So roll another fat one guys.

More NORC fisking...

To further strengthen the argument that the NORC report is biased in it's conclusions on firearms, I did even more research into the data sets and variables used. Just to make sure. Jadetroll, in his usual SOP, claimed I didn't even read the report (even though I quoted and sourced it) and that they "controlled" for the differences in population for their report. When asked for these variables they used, he did his usual avoidances. Why would he do that you ask? Because of pages listing this on the GSS:

The Modern Militia

Via Sear & Hammer, I was pointed to a post by Clayton Cramer showing how the Unorganized Militia was called into service as recently as WWII in Alaska, Oregon, and Maryland. Citizen Volunteers, not eligible for Army service, were organized to prepare defenses against potential Japanese and German aggression due to the fact that the National Guard was called into Federal service outside of their respective states.

These men were to be used as a first defense against paratroops and saboteurs in their local areas and to provide a guerrilla force against a large scale invasion as snipers, scouts, and raiders. Many of them were expected to provide their own weapons and equipment.

In a post over on Bryan's blog, JadeGold (Guy Cabot) claims that the NORC Firearms study wasn't funded by the Joyce Foundation. Perhaps he should actually try reading the study:

The Truth Coming Out...

Bryan Miller, after proclaiming my post about PATH member support for complete gun bans to be "increasingly shrill claims and attempts to smear with some bizarre and incoherent 'guilt by association' notion" admits to the truth. Both the Brady Campaign and CeaseFire NJ have filed Amicus briefs in support of the DC Handgun ban.

Interestingly enough, he's honest enough to use a qualifier when discussing possible future intentions of CF NJ:

"Ceasefire NJ does not currently support a New Jersey state handgun ban"

Meaning to say that they are not opposed to supporting one in the future. They're just not calling for one right now.

So my "shrill, repetative, and purposely disingenuous" post was, infact, completely accurate. If it's "repetative", it's only because it's in response to the constantly regurgitated mis-information (ie. lies) endlessly repeated by groups like Ceasefire, VPC, and the Brady Campaign.

You're right Bryan, it is your bad. Don't worry, though, we'll be here to correct your mistakes.

Bryan Miller: Issues w/ the truth

In a response on his blog, Bryan once again distances himself from Prof. Riley and claims that the Brady Campaign, et al. do NOT support the DC handgun ban:

As we all know, Paul wants to close the "Gun Show Loophole" by making all sales go through FFL dealers. At the same time, they advocate lawsuits against said dealers and the BATFE is closing down as many as they can showing their true agenda. I ask again this simple question:

Would the Brady Campaign support Non-FFL access to NICS for private sales?

Oh Boy, Idiot arrested near capitol building

U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man carrying a shotgun outside the Capitol building Friday. This guy really sounds like the kind of guy the Brady Bunch would eat up with a spoon. 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition, and had a backpack with a compound bow and Samurai sword, the man was wearing a tactical vest. Are they sure this guy is not just a left over from the Clinton admistration? Let’s face it they has some relatively strange people around in those year, but none inhaled! He was questioned in 1994, for incursions in to the air space over Camp David. An idiot pilot no less. Perhaps he forgot the "tinfoil " around his head.

But he did do the country a favor; he got the government to shut down for awhile. That makes the world a better place when people like Pelosi arguably the stupidest woman on the planet are shut up at least no bad things happen.

But let’s face it most of what’s in Washington D.C. generally swims in the shallow end of the gene pool. Kaveman, pointed out a statement to a point, “children can not be taught gun safety”. This is most likely true, if they are the offspring of the Liberal elite. But I will beg to differ; my kids were around firearms from when they were babies. Never was there a firearm related incident in our house, as well my daughter’s friends. The dangers with firearms today are not the kids in the house with the firearms. It is a criminal element out to rob and steal, they should be in jail. But this is the base constituency of todays democratic party.

Rep. James Moran (D-VA) whose wife has charged him with abuse, who has assaulted other members of Congress on the floor of the House and is a former stockbroker whose judgment in trades is so bad he is, broke from poor investments.

Rep. Enid Greene Waldholtz (R-UT) who kited more than a million dollars in bad checks and ended up in prison.

Senator Ted (Swimmer) Kennedy has stiffed many creditors from past campaigns.

Some research found 117 current and recent members of the House and Senate who have run at least two businesses each that went bankrupt, often leaving business partners and creditors holding the bag.

Seventy-one of them have credit reports so bad they can't get an American Express card on their own (but as members of Congress, they get a government-issued Amex card without a credit check).

Fifty-three have personal and financial problems so serious they would be denied security clearances by the Department of Defense or the Department of Energy if they had to apply through normal channels (but, again, as members of Congress they get such clearances simply because they fooled enough people to get elected).

Twenty-nine members of current and recent Congresses have been accused of spousal abuse in either criminal or civil proceedings.

Twenty-seven have driving while intoxicated arrests on their driving records. Like Teddy “Hic” Kennedy but someone died because of this scum.

Twenty-one are current defendants in various lawsuits, ranging from bad debts, disputes with business partners or other civil matters.

Nineteen members of current and recent Congresses have been accused of writing bad checks, even after the scandal several years ago, which resulted in closure of the informal House bank that routinely allowed members to overdraw their accounts without penalty.

Fourteen have drug-related arrests in their background.

Eight were arrested for shoplifting

Seven for fraud.

Four for theft,

Three for assault and one for criminal trespass.

I seriously doubt I would hire these people to wash the windows.

The question; who is more trustworthy, the government or the people? The answer in simple….

Weak. Weak. Weak. Hopefully their Cert. will have more in the way of cajones. This was so fluffy it could be in competition as a fabric softener.

I guess the dealer I bought my 1911 from sold me a machine-gun as I had to send it back to keep it from double-tapping on me.

But the BATFE isn’t reaching for convictions, no, not at all.

Abrams conviction:

Maybe he f*cked up, but I’m not convinced. Especially w/ the jury-rigging and incompetence we’ve been seeing from the judiciary leaves me w/ too many unanswered questions.

Another Win For the Freedom Side

The lawsuit was filed in January 2000, but according to the opinion written by Associate Judge Michael William Farrell, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act of 2005 required the court to dismiss the case.

SAF founder Alan Gottlieb said the ruling was proper, and recalled that it was municipal lawsuits like this which led to passage of the federal legislation in the first place. At one time, several cities filed a string of junk lawsuits against gun makers, and SAF actually filed counter suits against big city mayors who launched the legal attack. SAF was not a participant in this litigation.

“We’re proud of the tenacity shown by American firearms makers, and their refusal to be bullied by this kind of legal harassment,” Gottlieb stated. “Such lawsuits threaten the gun rights of all law-abiding citizens by posing a threat to the very life of the nation’s firearms industry. It is no secret that such lawsuits have been launched not simply to blame gun companies for out-of-control crime, but to put them out of business through a financial and legal war of attrition.

“Historically,” he continued, “such lawsuits have not been successful, but defending against them has cost the industry considerable time, money and effort, all of which could have been far better spent on research and development of firearm safety education programs, or new, innovative gun safety devices and mechanisms resulting in genuine advances rather than symbolic ‘feel-good’ headlines and paychecks for litigious attorneys.

They did what? What a P.O.S. of a state. One of the most corrupt states they should be apologizing for existing, contaminating the world with trash the likes of Miller. Why is New Jersey wasting time on worthless resolutions? The only up side is they are not making foolish anti freedom laws.

The Silence of the Anti Gun Crowd is deafening

Am I imagining this or have Paulie, Bryan and the rest of the “Pit Yorkies” been more subdued than normal? I know The Brady Bunches broadcast on "Huffington" has not spewed a new column since December 21. Bryan “You can’t make this stuff up” will blast his little blurbs, get his ass handed to him and then disappear for sometimes over a month. Think of all the little Anti-Freedom hate sites have come and gone in the last year. Including the Anti’s crown Jewel the Brady Bunch, (Membership) 26. Robin “I lie because I am a pompous ass” Ringler shut down her version of “Pravda”.

This makes me hopeful, that reason is returning to the populace, and people are realizing guns are not the enemy that politicians are. Let’s face it we can and will never change the Kelli’s, on the other hand why bother, we need cheap laughs. Besides, Kelli actually helps the pro freedom crowd. All she has to do is post her demented thoughts, and the foolishness of the Anti-freedom crowd is exposed.

Guess we all need to keep up the momentum. We need to take a lesson from Breda, and get people out to the range. When my life if less hectic I would, like to volunteer to take people out for an Introduction to freedom and fun.

Welcome and Hello all. In Georgia HB 89 has some getting all upset. Some really lame anti-gunners attempting to scare people about the bill are claiming this bill would raise insurance costs. I am in the industry and know that insurers underwrite policies based on trends and risk. I would strongly doubt that having a firearm locked in the trunk of a car is going to change the risk. Fact is the firearms are already in the trunk and insurance companies know this.

Georgia Could gain House seats, as some one who leaves the Freedom of the South and Comes to the Little Peoples Republics in the Northeast to work. I hear people in New Jersey simply asking me why are you here? They say I hate this state I have lived in New Jersey all my life and I can not wait to get out. My response is generally”I am only here because of this project” and I’m outta here when it’s done. Lets face it folks there is nothing to like about the hell hole known as New Jersey.

Is he just a mouthpiece regurgitating talking points now or is he actually active in his organization? Is he stating he no longer has any influence in the organization he started?

Notice that he refuses to use Alex Tristan Riley's name? Or that the post he deleted was a link to Riley's "Vermin" blog about the very topic Bryan is discussing? Why would he possibly do that?

Nonetheless, the majority concluded that section 22-4504(a) functions as a complete ban on using handguns for self-defense at home because one cannot obtain a license for a handgun.

So they're saying that they feel there are no law-abiding, competent individuals residing in DC. They must have been talking about Congress.

I was pleased to see her majesty lose. 4 more years of the Clinton's is not palatable although, she may return the stolen items to the White house. Unfortunately, it still has a chance at the highest office in the land, regardless of how nauseating she is. I can not say her opponent, the winner of Iowa is any better.
What choices democrats have, a know nothing done nothing from Illinois, and a worthless ambulance chaser from North Carolina. (Who says Tarheels do not have a since of humor) neither would be someone to look up to, respect, or even hire as garbage collectors.

The republicans are pretty lack luster as well, but still a dammed sight better than the alternatives.

Admittedly I am waiting to see which of the noisy little bugs will don a camouflage outfit take up a shot gun and pretend to be going hunting. Murmuring hollow statements, to the effect, they really support the second amendment and the Bill of Rights. The big laugh will be forgetting to remove the price tags after the quick stop at Cabelas.

I can only hope that all of the pro freedom people take the 2008 election cycle seriously. And get the word out that your Bill of Rights is in the hands of what ever arrives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. next year.

This (as Alex puts it) "Shitty little blog" that "nobody reads" and "doesn't matter" has generated more hits on both Paul Helmke's and Josh Sugarmann's Huffpo blogs than either of their organizations or, for that matter, ANY anti-rights blog or organization. And I'm just small potatoes.
