Private Citizens and the Ivory Tower

Private citizen runs afoul of the law, pays his fine, then works to change the law.

Sounds exactly like what the process is supposed to do, right?

Not according to elitist politicians who feel legislation is their exclusive arena.
“If I got a ticket and changed the law because I got a ticket, people would be screaming bloody murder,” said state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, D-Chicago, a gun-control advocate.
If you changed the law to benefit yourself, kind of like what Alderman Mell did in Chicago a few years back, then that would be true.  If you pushed to change the law AFTER the fact to help people in the future, what's the problem?

The problem is that Cassidy hates this particular private citizen, Todd Vandermyde, a firearm rights lobbyist, with a passion because V. has been kicking Cassidy's @ss back and forth across the legislative floor the last few years.

Mr. Pot, Meet Mr. Kettle,

"his own experience is no different than what Cassidy, as a gay legislator, did in helping pass same-sex marriage last year."
