The bill is DEAD. No cosponsors. Sitting in committee for nearly a year. Even gun ban fanatics are making fun of people who think it's going anywhere even though it's one of their dream legislations. From a CSGV e-mail:
Never mind that H.R. 45 has no co-sponsors and has received no hearing in a House committee—meaning you're more likely to see a pig fly than this bill passing Congress...So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop sending me e-mails about it or posting it on FB and how we're going to have to register all of our guns on next years tax forms.
All you're doing is crying wolf and ensuring that less people will pay attention when a REAL threat comes up at either the national or state level.

Don't forget its twin S.B. 2099
Same situation.
My big concerns are the "gun show loophole" closure bills, H.R. 2324 and S. 843. H.R. 2324 has 35 co-sponsors--a long way from the 218 votes it needs to pass in the house, but 6 of them have come just in the last couple weeks, since Bloomberg's "sting" operation, and a couple more signed on just the day before Bloomy made his big announcement.
The only good thing I have to say about Senate Majority Leader Reid (who "represents" my state) is that he appears very pro gun rights at the moment.
He's up for reelection in a tough race an he knows exactly what will happen if he allows any of this to go forward.
