I really didn't care about the whole 'Duck Dynasty' flap. I don't watch the show but more people reacted to it than vote in elections (which says alot about our electorate)  but this is just flat out stupid:

“These statements uttered by Robertson are more offensive than the bus driver in Montgomery, Alabama, more than 59 years ago. At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law. Robertson’s statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was ‘white privilege.’”

Sorry Jesse.  You're an @sshole.  You're a whore and you've done nothing but inflame racism since day one.

Book Review: Gunny's Rules

Want to get live your life like R. Lee Ermey aka 'The Gunny'?  Read his thoughts on life, his past and some current events?  This is it.  *

Gunny's Rules is an amazingly fast read that is a mix of advice, auto-biography and philosophy, alternating between chapters focusing heavily on his USMC experiences and his time filming Full Metal Jacket. 

This is tried and true 'Gunny'.  The entire time I was reading it, I was hearing the words in his voice.  Most of the advice is what you'ld expect.  Work hard, play hard, be straight-forward, give everything you've got, and don't be afraid to try new things. I learned a lot about his life and movie trivia which I always find interesting.  Not a real big fan of quote lists but for those who enjoy them, there are sections devoted to it. There was also a chapter devoted to his thoughts on current events, Environmentalism, Education, 2A, etc.  I didn't agree w/ all his views but he's honest. 

His manager opens the book w/ a glowing view of Ermey, stating that he always takes time to talk to fans who often wait hours in line at shows to meet him.  I can state for a fact that's true. At the end of a long day, he spent quite a bit of time talking to me and a friend at the St. Louis NRA AM, not just one of those that smiles, signs a stock photo then you move on.

I enjoyed this book.  Overall it's an entertaining, fun and quick read.

Mom's Demand 'Action' Hating In The New Year

Anti-gun fanatics continue to be severely disjointed individuals, wishing violence, death and injury on pro-rights advocates with a hefty mix of insults, logical fallacies and projection.

Up first is the recent debacle on NCGunBlog where several Anti's showed up after he was linked to on a Mom's Demand Lovin' FB page. An example of the height of 'reasonableness':

How sad for you. You are outnumbered by a long shot and your feeble and pathetic attempts of reimagining the 2nd Amendment are further proof of your lack of mental capacity. Perhaps the manly tights you wear at Renaissance Faires are so tight that they have constricted the blood flow to your brain.

The individual who wrote this thinks he should hold public office.  Can you just imagine this kind of mentality trying to pass laws?  Oh wait, we've got one like that in IL. Kotowski. 

And also according to MDA, a family owning firearms is 'gun culture out of control' followed by the usual ravings of their supporters calling for family services/police to haul parents to jail for following the law, discrimination, hatred, etc.

"What on earth are they going to do with these weapons, they are not just guns! It is sick!"

 What a waste of money, your local swat team would have no trouble dispatching this group if the SHTF.

  Figures their from Texas. Disgusting. But unfortunately they all look young so I'm guessing their parents got them these guns. Now that is even sadder.

Closed For The Holidays

Oh No-es! There Tokyo Goes!!!

The last major push for Nihon sheets was today. My buddy who paints my minis came down to help out, get his xmas gift (the BGG special sheets), and do some other geek stuff.  After the packing, the 'other' geek stuff came into play.  He punched out, colored the edges of, and assembled the 3-D pieces.  I punched out the first of my sheets (yeah, I've had the game a month and haven't gotten to play), a set of my Nihons which I also colored the edges of (the 'berry' colored sharpie works great). 

We then set up our doomsday board.  BGG-zilla, giant crater, UFO, Nihon forces, etc.

Yeah, this is going to be fun. Soon my packing table will be turned into a gaming table and many infantry and hovercraft will be crushed under the treads of OGRE's.

Hope For Chicago?

Sharpton showed up to preach more hate against whites and guns.  Apparently it didn't turn out quite the way he hoped:

“The manner in which we have been voting needs to change,” Wendy Pearson, an activist against Chicago school closings, told the room. “I’m here to say to you that we have been trained to vote in a specific manner… we need to start looking at the manner in which our elected officials have been voting… if they have not voted in a manner that is beneficial to you, yours, and your community, then you need to start voting them out.”

McKinley told the room, “Stop blaming just anybody for the violence in the city of Chicago. Blame the right people, not just white people, but the right people. Because it’s not just white folks a part of this, but it is on the fifth floor. The fifth floor took your schools, the fifth floor just took your jobs that he said that he gave to the ex-offender… and every single alderman was a part of this criminal process.”

Methinks some neighborhoods aren't going to see any road service for awhile. 

Here's the deal folks. Your 'representatives' are chosen for you.  Even if you do manage to vote in someone you like, the 'leaders' of the party you primarily support will force them to drop out, just like Dick Durbin did in 2010.  If you want to form your own 'Tea Party' like you claim, then plan to see lots of your relatives having 'accidents' and audits in your future. 

That's the Chicago Way.

Sheriff Tom Dart Can't Read a Calendar

In his absolute panic over CCW coming to Illinois, he says this about the law " 

“When you throw in the mental health component here, it's like what in God's name were these people thinking?” Dart said of state lawmakers. “They were in such a hurry to get something done.”

Hurry?  Huh?  CCW had been debated for YEARS in this state.  The legislature had 6 months to put together a law that 49 other states have variations on.  What did they do?  They literally waited until the day before the session ended and the various Chicagocrats went into a tizzy trying to throw as much crap against the wall as they could to get it 'No Carry'.

So Dart?  As dense as you are, the only 'lawmakers' you can blame are your fellow morons in C(r)ook Cnty/Chicago.  The ones who created that 'hurry'.  

ISP Making Up New CCW Rules

In an effort to keep as many people from applying as they can, the Illinois State Police have decided to only accept CCW applications online. 

Yeah, not going to happen.  Especially w/ the wonder that is the Obamacare website, I'm sure their intentions are honorable. 

Is it any wonder that pro-gun activists distrust any and all new laws/rules when in every instance, they get abused?  All the ISP is going to do is generate countless more lawsuits and cost the state even more money.

When they make a comment like this "They are also simply the “tools” of violence, terror, and death.", there is no 'reason' involved. 

Word salads, moving goalposts and lengthy 'nu uh's'  is all it amounts to. I'm glad I didn't bother.

Why The US Post Office is Broke

I've been shipping a large amount of packages through USPS lately using their flat rate services (hence why the lack of posting). Up until recently, it was more convenient to take them to the larger office in a nearby town than my local.  I dropped off some there the other day though and postmaster started giving me grief.  The sheets I'm sending are about 1/4" to big for the envelope so I've been using tape to completely seal it. Otherwise it is perfectly flat and thin.

Apparently that's against the ruuuuuuulllllzzzzzz.  So said PO(s) employee goes out of his way to find the regulation saying this was a no-no AND emails all the other local PO's to (and I quote) 'Watch out' for me.  All because a few (and I'm talking about 5%) of the packages 'might' garner an extra .50 or a $1 in postage going non-flat rate and that 1/4" offends his sense of order.  

Let's think about this.  I'm using a service that the PO is making a ton of money from and I'm doing much of the work in making/attaching labels, etc. All they had to do is scan them in and send them.  Now I'm being forced to switch to a cheaper, slower service and they're going to have to enter in each zip code individually and put postage on them, costing them man-hours and materials. Net loss for them. 

All the while I can stuff a load vest into one of those envelopes, effectively turning it into a big  ball, and they'll take it w/o question because the flap will close.

Is it any wonder that the USPS is billions in the hole every year?
