"Safe Storage" = Home Searches

Remember how we're called 'paranoid' and 'extremist' for claiming that firearm regulations regularly lead to abuses by the gov't and a loss of civil rights?  It's all in our minds as we imagine black helicoptors and heavily armed 'police' invading our homes to search for our guns.

Or not....
Selectman Barry Greenfield would like to give police the authority to inspect gun safety at people's homes.
The irony is that this is occurring in MA, the very state where the American Revolution started for just these same reasons. The very reason that the 4th Amendment was written into the Constitution.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
So according to Barry Greenfield, owning a firearm is 'probable cause' for a home search.  I guarantee this won't be the last anti-gun fanatic politician proposing such a measure.

Well there could be a silver lining to this cloud.

The REASON for these searches is because Massachusetts mandates "Safe Storage".

Between Heller and McDonald a Police officer's son dry-fired his Dad's service weapon at another child in the neighborhood. The officer argued in court that Heller ruled that "Safe Storage" was unconstitutional. The court ruled that since Heller had not been ratified for the states, the law stood.

there is a good possibility that the next challenge may simply nix the law.

Of course you don't see me holding my breath.

McDonald already incorporated the Second Amendment at the state level. The Fourth Amendment, as far as I know, had been incorporated a long time before that. There's no reason to think a law like this could stand. The problem is people would have to live and suffer with it until it was struck down.

Being a politician is probably cause for arrest and conviction on various forms of corruption.
