O-day+ 165: Rose Colored Glasses

MikeB made a comment on Obama's 4th of July Speech:
Thirdpower, You're right, of course. I'm concerned about all the unkept promises, and even more than them, I'm concerned that the planned buildup in Afghanistan is quickly turning into a shit-awful mess.

Yet, when I hear him speak, I get that rose-colored-glasses kinda feeling. You gotta admit, he can deliver the patriotism, Founding Fathers line with the best of 'em.
Others that fell for his 'Cult of Personality' are having those glasses removed:
Colin Powell, who broke ranks with the Republican Party last year to endorse Barack Obama, now worries that the president's agenda is increasing the size of government and the federal debt to alarming levels.
He continues:
"And I never would have believed that we would have budgets that are running into the multi-trillions of dollars, and we are amassing a huge, huge national debt that, if we don't pay for in our lifetime, our kids and grandkids and great grandchildren will have to pay for it."
That EXACT SAME THING WAS SAID DURING THE ELECTION. Perhaps people should have done a little critical thinking back while the campaign was still going on.

But the majority of the public preferred "that rose-colored-glasses kinda feeling". They wanted him to wrap them in a soft, warm blanket and be soothed by his words while the economy and the nation fell to ruin around them.

Yet even after all the lies, broken promises, and kowtowing to some of the worst dictators in the world, his most ardent supports still respond, hands clasped and eyes closed, with a heartfelt:

"I believe him."

While you celebrate the Independence Day, read these words and contemplate what they really mean.

Happy 4th of July folks. Keep your powder dry.

Well Said.

I think the major difference between people like MikeB and us is we don't listen to others to get that feeling of optimism.

We find it within ourselves, we find it in our preparation, our plans, our ideas and words.

We find the optimism for the future in the people...not our elected representatives.

I did not listen to Obeyme's July 4th speech. I didn't want my mind polluted that bad on a holiday.

As for unkept promises, I say, thank goodness! Just for starters, think of the anti-2A laws that HAVEN'T been passed.

Reminds me of a bumper sticker from long ago (paraphrased) "Thank goodness we DON't get all the government we pay for."

Unfortunately, the long train of "useful idiots" like MikeB will go on "believing" in the Obamamessiah as he continues to run the country right into the ground. He has broken his promises to the homosexuals, anti-rights gun-grabbers, and countless other organizations, and yet people just keep going on "believing" him.

It is good that some people are realizing that beliefs are not worth a gorramed thing, but they are far outnumbered by those who still "believe" that their chosen savior will still "pay their mortgage".

Somehow, it does not surprise me that our resident anti-right troll falls into the latter category...

Your comment the buildup in Afganistan will be a shit awful mess is guaranteed to be correct by the politically correct new rules of engagement.
Our troops, when fired on by Taliban forces, must first be certain there are no "innocent" civilians in the area before returning fire. GUARANTEED to snatch defeat out of the very jaws of victory. NO ONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN SHOT AT should be allowed to dictate ROE to our military men.
Our politicians can decide where and when to use our military but should not be allowed to play armchair general and dictate tactics. Even Generals, particularly the great ones have told their subordinates what they wanted done, not how to do it.

I keep remembering Ann Althouse posting, during the election when some piece of Obama BS came out, something like "Please stop lying so blatantly; it makes it hard to keep the feelings of support."
From a friggin' lawyer. "Lie to us, that's fine, but do try to keep it less blatant."
I gave up on a lot of people over crap like that.
