A lot of the commentary on the father/son story strongly emphasizes that they are a homeschooling, Christian family, as if that has anything to do with it.
As the head of a homeschooling, Christian family, I'm not thrilled about being painted with the broad brush of irresponsibility, for what amounts to a freak accident*.
(* - As I understand it, the dad flinched at hot brass going down his shirt, stood, pointed the gun UP [i.e. NOT at his son], pulled the trigger when he flinched again trying to get the brass out - the bullet traveled UP, ricocheted off the ceiling/timbers [read: performed a near-180-degree turn at 3000 fps], and struck the boy. Somewhat preventable, but still: Freak. Accident.)
