Chicago Crime Control

This is how one district commander thinks to reduce car thefts.... by ticketing the people who had their cars stolen
one of her early ideas because there is a spike in auto thefts, write the victim a ticket for unattended motor vehicle if their car is stolen while warming up in front of the house.
Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

And one wonders (not really) why Chicago has the reputation it does.

Wasn't there a city that would ticket you if you left your car unlocked too, since it's easier to steal? I want to say it's Philly, but I can't recall at the moment.

Anyhow it's a stupid idea, since some people would rather not have their windows broken if some punks are looking to steal things out of it.

An unattended idling car in Denver is called a "puffer". If the cops find it before the thieves, you'll get a ticket. At least the Chicago cops don't ticket you until after the car is stolen.

You'd think they'd be ticketing you for _not_ leaving your keys in the vehicle. Wouldn't want to hinder our dynamic younger generation as they undergo a traditional rite of passage. Check your privilege!

It's the driver's fault anyway. That car was just asking to be stolen, what with its slutty short skirt and provocative cleavage.

Spokane WA has a similar law,but people still keep doing that, In the winter we hear about a few cars getting stolen every day.
