A Criminal History

So a bit back, there was a murder in a neighboring town. A guy 'accidentally' shot his girlfriend through a closed door, killing her.  Now in standard MDA meme, they would go on about how reckless and irresponsible gun owners are and how X laws would have prevented this from happening.  

Then you look past the headline to the facts of the case. 

POS A  (need the qualifier, there are more involved), the shooter, was a felon in possession that has an adult criminal history (starting when he was 18), progressing from underage drinking to DUI/Reckless driving, to burglary.  Now he had the gun because he was given it by an 18 yr old, POS B,  (also a felon in possession (history of drugs, theft, and traffic violations) in order to commit an armed robbery. Well POS A decided to back out of the deal but kept the gun and shot through the door because he thought POS B and his buddies were coming to get him.   Both were on probation.

Other dispositions:
GF:  Felon. On probation for drugs and resisting arrest. 
POS C: Felon, laundry list going back to when he was 18
POS D: Felon, laundry list going back to when he was 18

Not a single innocent among the bunch,  the norm for most violent crime.  What brought this to my attention was a post by a local running for State Rep.  Here was his commentary:

This shouldn't happen here.
This shouldn't happen. Period.
We need to get serious about gun violence in this country, and we'll begin with Illinois.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones. Deepest condolences.

and one of the supporters blames the GOP. 

No matter his other issue positions, this shows a complete and total disconnect from reality and/or just another political hack/poser. 

'Snuffy' Phleger's Anger Management Issues

As he inflames racial tensions in Chicago:

"Go to hell Angelo! How dare you tell police to not do overtime and make our streets less safe with less officers. We're already short of police officers." Pfleger said.

Yep, It's the police's fault that the streets are 'less safe', not the actions of the violent criminals that Snuffy and his ilk have been enabling for years. 

No wonder he's anti-gun.

The number 90% likes to be bandied about by anti-gun activists for whatever bit they're pushing at the moment. 90% of people support 'Assault Weapon' bans....90% of people support UBC's... 90% of NRA members oppose the NRA.   Whatever. 

Yet when it comes down to evidence.. those showing up for events and pursuing action... the numbers are almost always reversed.  90% of the motion is by pro-rights activists.  The latest example.... Another push in IL to try and ban semi-autos and the witness slips filed

2801 against....443 for.   86.3% to 13.7%

Why is that?

When the Firearm Concealed Carry Act (PA98-0063) was passed in 2013, negotiations involved agreed language removing the power of local government to arbitrarily define "assault weapons", and proceed to ban them.  Every city, town, and village was given a 10 day opportunity to enact such bans, if desired, before the 10 day window closed.

This important protection is now being challenged by SB2130 FOID - Assault Weapon.  This bill, if passed, would allow an ever growing patchwork of municipal ordinance where firearms can be defined differently from place to place, and banned in some locations while not being banned in others.  The resulting confusion is an invitation to the unnecessary prosecution of citizens known to be law abiding here, but re-labeled as criminals "over there".

This violates not only the protections afforded us under the Second Amendment but, as importantly, the Fourteenth Amendment guaranteeing each of us equal protection under the law.

Illinois' rate of incarceration is already among the highest in the world, by some reports surpassing that of Iran.  This bill must be opposed.
