Friend of mine and I headed over to a local gun show so we could pick up the new toy he bought yesterday, a Charles Daly Field Tactical 12ga. Of course we then had to take it out in the lovely weather to try it out.

The Language of Losing.

"The Brady Campaign says it is going forward with "common sense measures that are helping to protect Americans from this threat".

What? That wasn't the Brady Campaign that said that this time? It was the EPA?

Sorry for the confusion. I guess that 'settles' that.

Why do they continue to lie?

In the latest e-mail alert from the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership, they are ready to mess themselves over a CCW (HB6249) bill being heard in committee. Their link shows that lots of other Joyce Foundation funded 'research' shows CCW is bad. But here's where they continue to blatantly lie about firearm laws in order to get more restrictions passed(SB 3632.):

Right now in Illinois, anyone - including gang members, people with severe mental illness, and domestic violence offenders - can buy a gun from a private seller with no questions asked.

It is already a crime in Illinois to sell a firearm to an individual w/o a FOID card. So why do groups like this need to make false statements like this? Are they ignorant, lying or both? There are no other options.

Here's the handy dandy list they were good enough to provide of House Committee members. Be sure to give them a call and ask them (politely) to support CCW in Illinois.

Bill thinks it's perfectly OK to confiscate firearms whenever the Gov't declares an 'emergency. To think otherwise is an 'extreme position'.

Illinois Needs to Improve its Gun Laws

Via SIH, the Brady Campaign released its annual 'scorecard' of gun laws across the US. All but CA and NJ failed (by their standards) with the majority of states losing points in comparison to last year.

I am highly disappointed that Illinois retained its score of 28. We can do much better than this. And be more like Utah.

It's a good thing Illinois has its primary early as the ballet counting for Brady/Dillard is going to take awhile.

Unlike other counts we could name, this one's going amicably.

Brady said he is not pushing Dillard to concede.

"He's a friend and colleague. He'll have to make a decision on what he thinks is appropriate," Brady said.

"The Republican Party is moving forward. Senator Brady and I are singing off the same hymnal. We're tagging teaming Pat Quinn. So, the party's not losing any steam here," Dillard said.

Not Just Bigots but Ignorant Bigots...

Following the series of posts by Sebastian of SIH and Joe Huffman on gun control groups blatantly showing their bigotry, it reminded me of a post I did awhile back discussing a study claiming that most opposition to groups like the NRA was based on stereotypes and ignorance.

Statements like this were typical from respondents:

The NRA stands for greed and power. The fact that they promote the availability of automatic firearms to the general public. They talk about it in the context of hunting. What are you gonna hunt with an automatic weapon? It just blows my mind that people can be so greedy and so self-centered and so power hungry . . . they really make their members look bad . . . I think a lot of those folks have really gotten far away from what it means to be human.

The study continues:

...our data indicate that although many of them reported a "strong" familiarity with the NRA, most NRA disidentifiers in our focus groups had little personal exposure to the organizations with which they disidentified
(e.g., none had ever met an NRA member), and gained most of their information from media reports portraying the organization in a negative light. As one informant noted: "I don't know them, and I don't want to. I don't want to legitimate their existence by even acknowledging them. We are so far apart, we probably can't even communicate."

Bigotry and ignorance do seem to go hand in hand, don't they?

As we've become more adept at communication through alternative media and other sources, we've managed to get our message across to a wider audience that no longer relies on 'traditional' or 'mainstream' media making them less likely to volunteer their time or advocate in support of gun control.

This correlates to the steady and continued drop in support for gun control organizations such as the Brady Campaign. Most have been reduced to shells of their former selves, relying on grants from politically motivated foundations and benefactors instead of 'grassroots'.

During the same period, pro-gun groups like the NRA have either maintained their membership levels or increased while the number of firearm owners/firearms in the general population has increased.

The VPC openly admits to using deception to push their agenda while the Brady Campaign blatantly distorts facts to try and get more ineffective laws passed.

With this as our opposition, as long as we stay the course, there is no other possibility but to continue to win the battle for hearts and minds.

Brady Endorsements Free Violent Criminals

Via David Codrea's Nat'l Gun Rights Examiners comes an expose on the relationship between the Brady Campaign and the Alabama Professor who shot her peers after being denied tenure.

Short story. She had a history of anger management issues, murdering her brother w/ a shotgun and threatening others according to eye witnesses and police. The DA at the time, William Delahunt forced the authorities to release her and did not press any charges.

Delahunt is now a Congressman for the 10th district in MA and has been touted and endorsed by the Brady Campaign for his efforts to reduce gun violence ownership.

It's noted on Tam's blog that the day after the shooting, Delahunt announced he would probably retire.

No. There's no connection. None at all.

Why are Gun Control Laws Ineffective?

Because the laws that get get pushed have no bearing on the actions they are allegedly in response to.

On Feb 14th,2008, a former student went into a hall at N. Ill Univ and started shooting. He had a shotgun and several handguns on him that he purchased through FFL dealers. FOID card, background checks, etc.

In response, the Illinois Council on Handgun Violence (ICHV) a Joyce foundation puppet group and their own puppet the ICPGV (also Joyce funded) , a pushing to end the 'Private Sale Loophole', make FFL dealers acquire another license to sell handguns, and stop Concealed Carry.

As 45Superman put it:

I note that Thom didn't try to explain how any of those laws would have hindered, much less prevented, the NIU rampage. A rare bit of good sense on his part, since there is no way he could have pulled it off.

This is the same kind of thing that was promoted after the VT shooting. A bunch of laws/restrictions that had no relation to how the shooter got his guns or how the institution responded.

Not only that, but they continue to deliberately lie to their members and the public in order to get these laws passed.

So since none of these laws would have done ANYTHING to stop the NIU shooter, why are they associating them? Ah, right. They're following the advice of WH COS and fellow gun grabber, Rahm Emanual "Never let a serious crisis go to waste."

New School Shooting Trend?

A few days ago a teacher walked into a TN school and attempted to murder the Principle and another administrator.

Today, a Professor walked into the biology Dept at the University of Alabama and started shooting faculty. She had been denied tenure.

Conjecture only, TN has a merit based pay/raise system for teachers. Connection?


Now to hear the continued calls about 'easy access to guns', 'must restrict guns' and 'keep guns (more) off campus)' from the PuSHer crowd no matter how relevant to the facts. Never let a good tragedy go to waste.

I'm a Gun Owner But....

or " I think everyone else is as negligent as I am so....."

Guns shouldn't be allowed in 'places that serve alcohol'. That's according to former aide to gun grabber Jimme Cahtah, Sam Edwards.

Why does he think this? Because he got sh!t-faced drunk, loaded a handgun, and fired it in a negligent discharge.

At home.

Nevermind that his experience has nothing to do with carrying in public or in places that serve alcohol. Nor the ignored fact that drinking in said establishments while carrying is against the law.

He states he does not know " the arguments that were made to rationalize this idiocy", but "a moderately intelligent first grader can tell you why this is dumb..."

So, although he is (by his own admission) negligent with firearms and ignorant of the facts, we should consider his opinion relevant why?

No wonder Jimmy was a one termer.

WWII Veteran

A friend of ours has an annual Groundhog's Day get-together. While there, he showed me his father's service pistol from WWII.




It's in very good condition having spent most of the time in a box. Only a little rust on the ejection port and the usual scrapes and wear. As good as finding a piece of firearm history in this good condition is that there's also personal history that's been preserved with it including personal photos and newspaper clippings.
