Illinois Elections by the Numbers....

The Brady Campaign is bragging that they had a 77% success rate in their endorsements in Illinois. That's really not saying much when you compare it to the actual numbers.

In comparison to the NRA:

The Brady Campaign endorsed a total of 34 people for Illinois seats.

For Federal Elections they endorsed Dick Durbin for Senate and 11 for the House. They won the Senate and 9 out of 11 seats for the House (82%).

The NRA didn't endorse a US Senate candidate and endorsed 8 people for the House with 8 wins (100%).

There were two head to head contests. Both were losses for the Brady Campaign.

For state offices, the Brady Campaign endorsed a total of 22 people for the IL House and Senate. 17 and 5 respectively out of races. They won all 5 in the Senate (100%) and 12 out of 17 in the House (70.6%).

The NRA endorsed 19 for the State Senate with 19 wins (100%) and 57 for the State House with 55 wins (96.5%).

There were zero contests in the Senate but Seven in the House. The Brady's are crowing about their 'big win' over Dist 85 incumbent Hassert. What they're NOT telling you though is that of those seven contests, the Brady's came out behind in five of them. A 5:2 ratio.

In comparison to the ISRA:

The Brady Campaign endorsed a total of 22 people for the IL House and Senate. 17 and 5 respectively . They won all 5 in the Senate (100%) and 12 out of 17 in the House (70.6%)

The ISRA endorsed 68 candidates and had 21 'preferred' for the IL House and Senate. 17 in the Senate and 51 in the House endorsed. 7 and 14 preferred.

For endorsed candidates, all 17 won in the Senate (100%) and 50 won in the House (98%)

For preferred candidates, it was 6 and 12 respectively (85.7% each).

Now the head to head results:

There were zero Senate races w/ endorsements by both the BC and ISRA. Of 'preferred', there was one with a Brady endorsed candidate win.

Of House endorsements, there were three races w/ BC/ISRA endorsements. Two were ISRA wins and one Brady win. 2:1 for the ISRA.

Of House 'preferred', there were also three races. Same results as endorsed candidates. 2:1 .

The ISRA had a 2:1 success ratio against the Brady Campaign in head to head elections. 5:3 if you include 'preferred' candidates.

So when it comes to endorsing (non-presidential) candidates , all of the various groups are good at picking easy winners.

When it comes to competing (non-presidential) endorsements, the NRA and ISRA come out ahead every time.

Broken down :

NRA vs BC:

President 0:1
US House 2:0
IL House 5:2

ISRA vs BC (preferred candidates)

IL Senate (0:1)
IL House 2:1 (5:3)

Data:
NRA
ISRA
BC
Election Results

They didn't even stop to wipe off their shoes..

As the Brady Campaign spreads the blood of the NIU victims around to push their agenda. An agenda that wouldn't have stopped the shooter in any way. Oh, and send us money.

ILLINOIS: EMAIL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, HELP US SAVE LIVES

Dear Illinois Brady Campaign Member,

As witnessed by the rash of recent tragic shootings in our state, dangerous people have far too easy access to dangerous weapons. This year in Illinois, we have the opportunity to pass strong gun laws that will ban military-style assault weapons (HB 4357), high capacity ammunition magazines (SB 1007) and require a background check on the sale of every handgun (HB 758). Please help us pass this life-saving legislative package.

EMAIL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE TODAY!
Tell him/her: "Vote YES on HB 4357, SB 1007, and HB 758"

Last year, the Illinois State Senate passed a life-saving bill, SB 1007, to ban deadly ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets. If it passes the State House we will be one step closer to enacting it into law. Both HB 4357, a bill to ban dangerous military-style assault weapons, and HB 758, a bill to require a background check on every handgun purchaser, will soon be voted on in the State House.

Here is what you can do today:

1. Click here to email your State Representative today.
Tell him/her: "Vote YES on HB 4357, SB 1007, and HB 758"

2. Forward this e-mail to friends, family, and colleagues in Illinois.

3. Click here to contribute to our efforts in Illinois and across the country.

For more information on this legislation and how to get involved in the gun violence prevention movement in Illinois, please contact your local Illinois Million Mom March Chapter, the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, and the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

We must pass these life-saving bills! Please email your State Representative today.

Sincerely,

Dear Thirdpower,

Together, we did it!

Thanks to your support and your efforts, last week thousands of individuals, Million Mom March Chapters, community allies, and friends and family of the Virginia Tech victims marked the first anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings and called on legislators to do something about gun violence.

Click Here to Support Your Brady Campaign Today

Your Brady Campaign and ProtestEasyGuns.com supported the efforts of more than 100 local events to create a day of action and remembrance that would send a message to lawmakers: we need to make it harder for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons by strengthening gun laws, including closing the gun show loophole.

Our reach was both wide and deep. Coast to coast, events took place in more than 30 states (red and blue ones!), more than one hundred cities, and on 50 college campuses. They included bell ringing, candle vigils, speeches from victims and elected officials, calls to action and lie-ins: groups of at least 32 individuals lying down in tribute to the 32 victims killed one year ago on the Virginia Tech campus, and the 32 victims murdered by guns every day.

The events got a tremendous amount of attention and media coverage. Your Brady Campaign and our allies in the field — in cities and neighborhoods around the country — are making our voices heard: Now is the time to keep the momentum going to pass sensible gun laws.

Keep the Momentum Going: Donate Now

The show of support in communities across the country on the anniversary of that not-to-be-forgotten day is another example that America is turning the corner on the gun issue. Thank you for your support. We did it! And we will continue to do more!

In one single E-mail, they were able to jam in three separate links to beg for money while chanting 32 32 32 32 over an over. Paul's last three posts on Huffpo have all been rehashes of the VT tragedy using family members in emotional distress to shill for laws that had nothing to do w/ the event or that have been shown to reduce crime.

Interesting to note that it takes a national event and numerous national anti-gun groups to equal an single pro-gun state level event .

Gun Debate Update.: Levy v Henigan

Levy's opponent on WGN tonight will be Dennis "I forgot 'of the people" Henigan of the Brady Bunch.

Via the Charlotte GRE.

The Debate:

Opening w/ Levy giving a brief of Heller.

Henigan tries for an emotional appeal w/ Brady's history and claims of 'sensible' gun laws.

"Brady Campaign does not support handgun bans".

"Localities need to make 'tough' decisions". Which is why they keep supporting national gun bans and legislation.

Levy gives history of modern gun control (ie. Miller) "Focused on weapon, not the people". Discussion of Heller and Scalia's views of militia and clauses.

Rosenburg quotes Madison and Adams.

Henigan claims Madison is talking about militia use only. "Out of Context".
Scalia separates clauses. Coming from one who can't even quote it properly, that's laughable.

Rosenburg asks about CCW data. Lott study mentioned.

Henigan dismisses Lott. Cites Donahue. "CCW causes uniform increase in crime".

Levy defends Lott. Cites CDC and NAS studies. DC banned handguns and crime skyrocketed.

Henigan states NAS study shows no correlation vis a vie Lott study. "1.6 million prohibited purchasers stopped by Brady Law". Claims causality to crime decrease.

Rosenburg asks Levy view on Brady Law (NICS etc).

Levy: DC doesn't follow Brady Law.

Henigan: Universal Background Checks next step. Urban areas can pass 'stricter laws'.

Levy: NICS good. Only 2% crime guns from gun shows. Rejections don't stop criminals. 1/4 False positives. Only 294 convictions. DC creates to many hoops for ownership.

Henigan: Brady Law 'modest'. Need stricter laws. DC regulations nearly exactly same as cars. Fingerprinting good idea.

Rosenburg: Access to driver info? Should Gun Ownership info be available?

Henigan: No one is arguing for lists. Registration good.

Levy: NICS retains failed check data. Potential for abuse if data retained.

Henigan: Destroy tax returns?

Rosenburg: Officials abused law.

Henigan: Doesn't mean lists shouldn't be kept.

Rosenburg: What do you want?

Levy: Away from felons, unsupervised kids, no WMD's. "Jurisditionally sensitive laws".

Rosenburg: NRA?

Levy: They're closer to me than Henigan.

Rosenburg: Campaign against this program.
ISRA sent out e-mail. All over blogosphere. Lots of calls/e-mail. ISRA misinformed. *Reads ISRA e-mail*. "I'm a serious conservative including gun laws"
"Is debate a violation?" *Reads E-mail* "I support Levy's view".

Henigan: "Welcome to my world" "Tactics of intimidation". "Callers don't represent gun owners" Cites usual Joyce foundation survey numbers. "Extremists"

Levy: ISRA not extremists. "Director a little bit hasty".

Henigan: Extremism on both sides. Quotes " blood running in the streets"

Rosenburg: Level of gun control?

Henigan: Weak. Guns travel easily across state lines.

Levy: BOR only applies to Fed's until 14th Amendment. 2A unincorporated. Chicago about incorporation. Thinks it will eventually apply. But by which method?

Henigan: Heller allows 'host of restrictions'. Brady campaign agenda constitutional. Claims 'complete prohibition" allowable.

Levy: DC about 3 issues. Will overturn Chicago.

Rosenburg: Gun ban overturned cause crime to decrease?

Levy: Difficult to say but most likely yes.

Rosenburg: Europe?

Henigan: Stronger laws. Little gun crime. Less lethal. "Guns trafficked into Mexico".

Rosenburg: "Gun ownership criminalized, Only criminals will have guns"

Levy: Cites Russia, Mexico, etc.

Henigan: Rambles about # of guns and gun control. Claims you need to limit data to make comparisons work. Of course you do Dennis.

Rosenburg: *Phone calls*.

Caller 1: Balance debate. Saw UK crime increase after gun confiscation. Got CCW when came back to states.

Caller 2: Where does Federalist state militias only? Police not there to protect individual, what to do?

Henigan: Read full passage. Militia purpose.

Levy: Standing armies v Militias. No dispute about hunting or self-defense.

Caller 3: NJ restrictive. Miller misrepresented. Brady website shows explosives/RPG's while blaming US gun shows.

Henigan: "Nothing in the report suggests that". Cites trace data as statistics. Weak gun laws. All the NRA's fault.

Caller 3: *Reads passages around picture* "Inflammatory and misleading"

Caller 4: Very Balanced. Bans on colored guns 'reasonable'?

Henigan: Problem w/ toy looking guns.

Caller 4: California laws 'common sense'?

Henigan: Safety standards.

Levy: DC making mockery of Heller decision.

Rosenburg: *Reads E-mail from Australia 'police officer'* The regular one passed around

Levy: We'ld see the same thing.

Henigan: Noone's talking about disarmament. AU etc. rates lower than US. Strict laws lower crime.

Levy: Due to failed War on Drugs.

Henigan: "Innocents caught in crossfire"

Levy: Guns already banned

Henigan: Trafficking.

Levy: Narcotics Illegal nationwide. Doesn't work.

Henigan: No bans. "reasonable regulations"

Levy: Brady Heller brief claimed ban reasonable.

Caller 5 (1st female): to Levy "If Reagan had been killed, would your views have been changed?"

Levy: His death would not have modified COTUS.

Henigan: Reagan supported Brady Bill. Pass more laws.

Caller 6: "What is Brady Campaign doing to restrict criminals instead of legal gun owners?"

Henigan: Guns make crime more lethal. Pass more laws.

Levy: NY, Chicago, DC not 'sensible' laws. Brady Campaign supported those.

Rosenburg: Brady view on Chicago?

Henigan: We don't support handgun bans. Heller decision endorses 'sensible gun control'.

Levy: Heller found 3 laws unconstitutional. Brady Campaign avoiding incorporation issue because they know they'll lose.

Henigan: DC gun regulations reasonable. Same as cars.

Rosenburg: Original intent?

Henigan: We'ld disagree to original meaning.

Levy: Madison supported militia only.

*End of Debate*

Petey Hamm opposes the Brady Campaign?

Via Gunnuts.net comes this quote from Petey Hamm:

"If someone is not a convicted felon or hasn’t been found to be a danger to themselves due to mental illness and they believe they can handle a firearm, we support their right to purchase one.”

Well that sounds reasonable, right? To bad it contradicts the Brady Campaign's stated positions on their site and blogs:

POSITION: As a way to strengthen the Brady background check system, the Brady Campaign supports the Terror Gap bill.

PROBLEM: There is a gaping hole in our nation’s firearm laws that terrorists can exploit. Federal authorities can't stop sales of guns – including military-style assault weapons – by federally licensed gun dealers to known or suspected terrorists because of gaps in current law. Our definitions of those prohibited from purchasing guns from federally licensed dealers do no include those known as suspected terrorists.

THREAT: There is government-documented evidence that terrorists have armed themselves with guns purchased in the U.S.

URGENCY: This Terror Gap threatens our safety. We don’t want to wait until after a tragedy occurs. We can do something about it now.

SOLUTION: Congress must pass the bill to close the Terror Gap to stop known or suspected terrorists from buying guns.

So they want restrictions on people who have NOT been convicted of felonies or violent misdemeanors based off a list that has an over 30% error rate .

The Brady Campaign has also publicly opposed a bill allowing those who have been adjudicated by the courts and doctors as no longer mentally deficient to be allowed to possess firearms.

In light of what happened yesterday -- a violent attack by an emotionally unstable soldier -- it is even clearer that the proposal being pushed by Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina should be rejected. --Paul Helmke

So which is it Brady Campaign?

Victory! U.S. Congress Strengthens Brady Background Check System
Bill Now Moves to President's Desk: Please Call Today

Dear Thirdpower,
draft VT quotes

Great news! Last night, Congress passed a bill that will strengthen the Brady background check system. It will help ensure that fewer guns end up in the hands of dangerous people like felons and those who have been found to be a threat to themselves or others because of mental illness.

After the Virginia Tech tragedy, with your help, we asked our national leaders, "What are YOU going to do about gun violence?"

The tide is turning. Yesterday, Congress passed the first major piece of legislation to reduce gun violence in over a decade — and congratulations are in order: you, our donors and activists, helped make this victory possible. Thank you!

The "National Instant Check System (NICS) Improvement Amendments Act of 2007" (H.R. 2640) was passed by unanimous consent in the U.S. Senate and House, and now goes to the President's desk for signature.

PLEASE CALL PRESIDENT BUSH TODAY AT 202-456-1111
Urge Him to Sign the NICS Improvement Act Immediately
Give the Virginia Tech families this victory before the New Year

This legislation was passed in response to the Virginia Tech massacre. The killer was able to arm himself because the court order that should have blocked his gun purchase was not reported to the national Brady background check system.

We deeply appreciate the courage and strength of the Virginia Tech victims. On October 16, many of the Virginia Tech families joined Brady President Paul Helmke and me on Capitol Hill calling for passage of this legislation — the efforts of all the families involved were crucial to this victory.

Our special thanks go out to Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) for their work on this legislation.

Much work lies ahead with the implementation of this legislation and our efforts to make the Brady background check system as strong as it can and should be. I know I can count on you to help us make future victories possible.

Click here for more information on the NICS Improvement Act.

Thank you again and happy holidays.
Sincerely,

Paul issues challenges.

So I issue my own:

I challenge the Brady Campaign to stop misrepresenting what different firearms are capable of.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to address the issues that are holding up the NICS act.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to acknowledge that basing restrictions off of error-ridden lists is irresponsible and unconstitutional.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to stop trying to ban private purchases of firearms by connecting them to FFL dealers that they are at the same time trying to drive out of business.

I challenge the Brady Campaign to find any evidence that limited purchasing laws have in any way effected crime.

I challenge Paul to read the responses on his linked Op-Ed and figure the ratio of his supporters to those who support the rights of the populace.

I guess this is Paul's lame attempt to get the candidates to pay attention to him. Anyone want to lay odds on it working?

It must suck for an organization that once stood next to presidents as they signed bills named after their leaders to become inconsequential.

Hell Hath Frozen Over

NRA And Brady Campaign AGREE: Barack Obama Is Anti-Gun!

In a rare occurrence, NRA and the Brady Campaign (formerly Handgun Control, Incorporated) agree on something.

Four years ago, the Brady Campaign endorsed an anti-gun senator by the name of John Kerry for President, and NRA thought that decision made sense—for an anti-gun group.

This week, in a testament to his anti-gun record, Barack Obama also received a presidential endorsement from the Brady Campaign.

So, once again, the Brady Campaign and NRA are in total agreement—Barack Obama is, by far, the most anti-gun presidential nominee in history and he certainly deserves the endorsement of one of the most outspoken anti-gun organizations in the country.

A Brady Campaign 'Gun Owner Data Base'?

It's been noted that the individual involved in suing various online retailers over the Colorado movie theatre shooting and who now owes $220K is a Brady employee (6 months after the event). Something interesting was noted on his Linkedin Profile:

Experience

Manager Organizing Department Brady Campaign

Brady Campaign & Center to Prevent Gun Violence
– Present (2 years 4 months)San Antonio, Texas Area
* worked in the organizing department doing outreach to victim/survivors of gun violence * Led the department in adding names of gun owners to data base
* Worked closely with communications department to connect with national media to do television
interviews related to gun violence.
* Lobbied national and state congressional legislators to pass reasonable restrictions on gun
ownership.
*Designed and implemented training programs on gun basics and how to engage gun owners for
Brady chapters.
*Did inspirational talks to grass roots volunteers in Washington state in their efforts to pass
legislation for background checks on all gun sales.
*Spoke at fund raising events.

Led the department in adding names of gun owners to data base?  What?  So what exactly is this Brady 'Data Base' that they're adding names to?  Why are they creating it? What is its purpose?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I will be the next CEO at Brady

So I applied for the job as chief turd at the Brady Bunch. I thought I'd share my kick-ass resume in order to benefit those who don't know how to massage their skill set and work experience into something that exudes pure awesomeness.

An Opportunity under Consideration...
You have expressed interest in the following opportunity:
CEO
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
Opportunity: DE452
(You responded on Oct 2, 2011)

Introduction:

Greetings, my name is Mike Hawk and I would be honored to be considered for the position of CEO of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Let me tell you straight up, Mike Hawk is what you're looking for. You will love and embrace Mike Hawk. My former business will be sad to see Mike Hawk leave, but Mike Hawk is always looking for a new challenge. I hope the Brady Campaign will be Mike Hawk's next endeavor.

Career History:
1989-1991...Lead shovel-man of horse feces on a small farm. I was also the resident expert on collecting chicken crap, pig poop, and cow patties along with a wide variety of urine soaked hay. I dabbled in animal husbandry a bit until my employer found out and fired me. After that I took a few years off to smoke weed.

2000-2006...Scored a major hook-up at McDonalds making the fries and cleaning the toilets. I got so efficient at it that I could do both at the same time. My manager failed to see the brilliance of using raw potatoes and their natural acidity to sterilize the skid marks on the seats and they fired me.

2006-present…I got a job where I get wheel-barrels full of cash to post offensive and untruthful comments on Huffington Post articles. It’s a pretty easy gig but it’s kinda boring. I’d much rather spout offensive and untruthful comments on a National level, hence my interest in the Brady Campaign.

Education:
I’m the smartest most awesome intellect the universe has ever produced. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot of the highest order.

Certifications:
I am 100% certified awesome.

Languages:
Yes, I speak language. I occasionally read language as well but I prefer picture books.

International Experience:

I have had sexual relations with Arabian Horses, Chinese Crested dogs, African hippos, Canadian Moose, Mexican cacti and British women. Ya, Mike Hawk is that awesome.

Geographic preference:
Uh, earth?

Compensation:
I am willing to perform the duties of CEO for your organization for minimum wage and a few photos of Sarah Brady in a thong and an unlimited supply of Kleenex.

Thank you for considering me for this opportunity. I sincerely believe that when you measure my qualifications against all the hordes of others applying for this position, you will come to the inescapable conclusion that Mike Hawk will be on top.

Judges who oppose gun bans "Extremist"

According to the Brady Bunch and a group called CREDO :

HELP STOP THE APPOINTMENT OF EXTREMIST JUDGES
Our partners at CREDO Action urge you to contact the Senate Judiciary Committee Chair

Dear Thirdpower,

The United States Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling soon in District of Columbia v. Heller, which promises to be the most significant Second Amendment case in U.S. history. The Heller decision will affect the constitutionality of gun laws for a generation.

As we wait for the decision in the Heller case, our partners at CREDO Action have asked us to forward this alert to you. They are asking you to protect our nation's gun laws by making your voice heard on President Bush's judicial appointees. We hope you read it over, and if you agree with CREDO, take action.

Credo Logo
No More Second Amendment Extremist Judges
Tell Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Leahy to block the appointment of federal judges who are hostile to reasonable gun control laws.

Take Action Now!

Dear Brady Campaign Member,

George Bush has only nine months left in office; he and his allies are still trying to ram through a set of judicial nominees that could run the courts for the next 50 years.

The Heller case before the Supreme Court is a reminder of the importance of federal judicial nominations to preserving hard-fought legislative victories against the gun lobby. The battle against gun violence is fought in courts as well as in legislatures. We must be vigilant to prevent the appointment of judges who will enforce an extremist reading of the Second Amendment.

So I hope you'll take action today to ensure that Congress will block the appointment of federal judges who are hostile to reasonable gun control laws.

Thank you for working to build a better world.

Sincerely,
Will Easton, Activism Manager
CREDO Mobile

Thanks to CREDO Mobile (formerly Working Assets) for taking the lead on this important issue. We hope you consider taking action.

Sincerely,

So remember folks. The Brady Campaign in no way advocates gun bans except to call for various gun bans, smearing legislators who oppose their "reasonable" laws, and lobbying for judges that will support and uphold them. Recognizing the 2A as a right of the people and following the words of the Founding Fathers is considered "extremist".

In one of those little bits of irony, the "parent company" , WorkingAssets, has a group called the Center for Constitutional Rights listed right below the Brady Campaign(under Civil Rights no less), an organization dedicated to restricting rights and upholding racist and discriminatory laws .

'Gun Violence' and Brady Campaign Tweets..

The Brady Campaign Intern has his Twitter search function set to 'gun violence' and retweets practically every one that comes across w/o looking at the story or doing any research. Five minutes found out some glaring details:

'Horrible', 'Tragic'. A 13yo boy. An innocent child cut down in the prime of his life. But what MAIG Mayor Adams and the Brady's don't bother to mention is this, from another article on the murder:
At the time of his death, Marquez was on juvenile probation for an assault. But that didn't keep him from boasting on his Facebook page, under the moniker "Ese Stoner," about his affiliation with the Surenos gang, smoking marijuana with friends, and his journey in and out of juvenile detention this year. On Saturday, he posted, "I love gang bangin violence!" The next night at 8:16 p.m., his last post, he wrote he had fun looking for someone "but their (sic) lucky they were hiding."
And another:
From the article:
Chris headed to the Miami Gardens "candy house." He was dead within minutes. Neighbors didn't hear yelling or arguing before the shooting. He was shot twice in the head and twice in the chest. "My guess is he probably just stopped off to buy a joint," his mom says.
That evil media. To think that a 'troubled youth' getting killed outside of a violent drug den isn't newsworthy.

Do we see a trend here? Are these the kinds of individuals the Brady Campaign really wants to defend? Of course what we will see are these incidents added to the list of 'children' killed by guns.

It took me less time to find details on these stories than it did to type up this post. So is the Brady Campaign deliberately trying to skew these incidents or are they just to lazy to do any research on them? Or both.

Brady Campaign: Celebrating Failure

So the latest Brady email begging for money.  This one from the 'Million Mom March' representative, you remember, that group that was a one hit wonder over 16 years ago and then folded into the Brady bunch while under investigation for tax fraud.
This year alone, Brady Campaign advocates created monumental change and action at a time when Americans needed it most. You put in more than 150,000 calls to Congress. That spurred Senator Chris Murphy's history-making filibuster in the Senate to support expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales and Congressman John Lewis's historic sit-in in the House. We supported the first Presidential candidate in history to run on a gun violence prevention platform. And, just last month, the Brady Center capped off a successful year with a historic settlement in a case against an irresponsible gun dealer. This is all because of you!
Let's break this down, shall we?

You put in more than 150,000 calls to Congress. That spurred Senator Chris Murphy's history-making filibuster in the Senate to support expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales

Which failed

Congressman John Lewis's historic sit-in in the House

Which turned into a laughing stock as it was revealed they were offered pillows, blankets, catered meals, and took shifts while lamenting how hard they had it.

We supported the first Presidential candidate in history to run on a gun violence prevention platform

Who lost. To a Cheeto.

the Brady Center capped off a successful year with a historic settlement in a case against an irresponsible gun dealer.

No mention of that whole 'Lucky Gunner' case where they left the (Brady Campaign employed) litigants holding the bag for $200K in legal fees.  One 'victory' out of the whole 'successful' year.

Yeah.

Celebrating failure.

Sounds about right.

The NRA has filed against the Brady Campaign on the Federal Parks suit. According to the BC:

In the court papers filed this week, the NRA says they:

  • deny that the Brady Campaign is a grassroots membership organization or that it is involved in fighting to prevent gun violence;
  • deny that the Brady Campaign is dedicated to safety;
  • deny that the members of the Brady Campaign, if any, will face an increased risk because of the new regulation.

And this is inaccurate how?

Why the Confusion on Assault Weapons?

Most of us are familiar w/ the oft cited statement by Josh Sugarman of the VPC:

"The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons."

How is this confusion encouraged? Let's take a look at some campaign literature from Brady Campaign endorsed Illinois Representatives Kathy Ryg (now resigned) and Naomi Jakobsson (who also sponsored the local ammo encoding bill).

Assassinations? Legal in Illinois? Nope.

Terrorists? Armor-piercing firepower? Nice scary phrasing.
Military assault weapons? Wait. First it was "Assault Rifle". Why the change?

"Gun Show Loophole"? Of which there wasn't one since all legal sales in Illinois require the possession of a FOID card which IS a universal background check unless the police aren't doing their job.

Nice picture of a Browning M2 Machinegun and associated info. This has to do w/ the topic how? Oh, right, more intentional misdirection.

Hey, that looks a little different from the 'Sniper Rifle" pictured above. Of course the other gun, a real machine gun, is NOT legally available in Illinois. But what's a little dishonesty during a campaign right?
More of those scary words and Brady Campaign talking points.

So are people like these ignorant, confused, or deliberately lying to their constituency?

Either way, this is one of the ways that this myth is kept alive. Since the Brady Campaign endorsed these individuals, they are directly complicit in spreading these distortions which graphically puts into perspective their claims of only wanting 'reasonable common sense' laws.

Brady Campaign Uses Suspected Terrorist as Spokesman

With the Brady Campaign's new campaign for anyone to talk to them (and blocking those who try to), they've gathered together a handy list of B-list celebrities and suspected terrorist to promote their anti-gun agenda.

Terrorists?  Really?  Yep, by their own definition.
Congress must pass the bill to close the Terror Gap to stop known or suspected terrorists from buying guns.
We've talked about those bills stripping people of their rights based on secret gov't watchlists.  At least one of their spokes-idiots, Mark Ruffalo*, is on said lists.

Hollywood star Mark Ruffalo has been placed on a terror watch list by U.S. officials after organizing screenings for a new documentary about natural gas drilling.
So again, the Brady Campaign is using suspected terrorists to promote their unconstitutional agenda not that this is a unique experience.

H/T to War on Guns.
