QOTD
Apologize this is a paraphrase and I can't relocate the comment in the fog of HuffPo. It was a response to Peter King's idiocy.
"You got it completely backwards. We should pass a law making it illegal for govenment officials from coming within 1000 feet of our guns."
Damn straight.

"our sick gun culture" ?
That's a phrase our flavor of the day uses several times in response to op ed's in papers. His goal, he claims, is to "put better restrictions on gun access".
So far the 'New Trajectory' is the same misfires we've seen from other gun control advocates. He's repeated the Kellerman "22x more likely" myth, has no idea about the connections for his own organization that he's promoting, and relies exclusively on gun control org. produced 'statistics'.
His real motives and beliefs come clear in his earlier posts:
He brings up a case of some kids 'accidentally' shooting one of their friends. Take a look at these kids of the same age at an Appleseed event. Guess which ones are less likely to pick up a gun, point it at someone and start pulling the trigger for 'fun'?
If he really wants to ' find common ground', then maybe he should have started by not opening w/ direct attacks on firearm owners.

No home with children should have a gun, even if it's locked upThis is what he has to say about the NRA:
If you disagree with Mr. LaPierre and others who run organizations that support violence,Yep. What we're seeing is another Anti who knows little to nothing about firearms and can't (or chooses not to) distinguish between the 'Gun Culture' and the Criminal culture. He encourages ignorance and the fear of firearms in his children. I educate mine.

Joyce Foundation Funding, Lucky Timing
Even though the Violence Policy Center took another funding cut of $85,000 for the year from their financiers at the Joyce Foundation, the Tucson, AZ shooting couldn't have come at a better time for groups that suckle at that teat.
Just last month, they distributed over $1.2 million between 4 different groups so there's plenty of cash to throw around right now on advertising, 'research' and, in Josh Sugarmann and Kristin Rand's case, payroll.

Natural Selection
SAN FRANCISCO – Authorities say seven San Francisco middle school students have been taken to hospitals after apparently mistaking rat poison for candy.
San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mindy Talmadge says students from the Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School were taken to three hospitals Thursday afternoon after ingesting a blue cube they found atop a filing cabinet.
*sigh* We're not even talking 'little' kids here.

We're Here!! Really!! Pay Attention To Us!!!
The Tucson tragedy has gotten every 'gun control' group to crawl out of their holes, no matter how small they are.
The 'North Carolinians against Gun Ownership is one of these as Sebastian and Sean mention. Where have we heard about them before? Oh, right, their leader, Laura Eshelman, commented a few times here with such intelligent comments such as:
Gun control leadership in their own words.

I tend to be proactive in my line of work, and thus have better things to do than sit around my computer waiting for people to argue with and stroking my rifle (especially since I don't have anything to compensate for...)and
you should consider lobbying for marijuana legalization. It's been proven to be effective in many cases for stress reduction; I'm sure it would make even the most virulent of you gun nuts a little bit nicer (and less likely to get pissed off and shoot innocent people).along w/
I often wonder whether it would be a little different if every "responsible gun owner" with that mentality had a child commit suicide with a gun someday- sadly, if you did bother to research the consistent statistics about how frequently that happens, you probably wouldn't care.

McCarthy Magazine Ban
Congresswoman Carolyn "Shoulder Thing That Goes Up" McCarthy states:
Think about that.
The only purpose for the existence of these devices is to be able to shoot as many people as possible as quickly as possible. But the police will still be allowed to have them.
Think about that.

What They Want vs What I Want
Much of the 'dialog' coming from those using the Tucson shooting as a ramp to push for more bans/restrictions is the oft used screed "You don't NEED a 30+ round magazine."
Nope. I don't. But they are handy and convenient and of the hundreds of millions of them out there, only a few have been used for criminal activities.
The argument basically boils down to, since I don't 'need' them, the Gov't can ban them.
Outside of the fact that a large percentage of people proposing said ban have absolutely no f*cking clue what they're talking about, do we really want to go further down that road?
We already have state and local governments determining what kinds of food we don't 'need'. What else do they feel the gov't should determine we 'need' or 'don't need'?
In reality though, it has nothing to do w/ 'need'. They just can't be honest enough to admit they don't WANT us to have firearms. Of any kind.

Tribute
Reports are coming in that Giffords is now breathing on her own and has opened her eyes.
This song is a tribute to her.
Listen to the words, feel the music and please pay close attention to the symbolism in the imagery.
Turn up the volume like you mean it.

Illinois Tax Increase
Well the idiots in Springfield did it. They passed a 'temporary' tax increase w/o making ANY cuts in the budget. Oh, but if they spend to much, it will be canceled. Yeah, right. Until they pass another bill that revokes that part of it and it becomes permanent
Now more businesses will leave and the avg. person will have less money to spend.
Next, once people's wallets start emptying more, there will be another call for a minimum wage increase, prices will go up and the dominoes will continue.
Good job Chicago and all those that voted for Quinn. This is what you wanted. I hope you like the taste of ashes.

Playing the blame game
Today was a relatively light day at work as I only had to classified classified classified, so I spent most of the day thinking about all the inaccuracies found in the MSM concerning the Tucson shooting and the bat-shit crazy idiocy found in the comments section of every story I came across. I thought for awhile about the grand post I would vomit up here on DOOT fisking everything with ease, but I was woefully ill-prepared for the sheer volume of Teh Stoopid. I seriously don’t know where to start and I also feel confident that any fellow travels to stumble across this knows my pain.
I have followed this closely since the news broke and this is what I heard.
1. Blame the NRA
2. Blame Sarah Palin
3. Blame Glenn Beck
4. Blame the NRA
5. Blame Rush Limbaugh
6. Blame the NRA
7. Blame Fox News
8. Blame Arizona
9. Blame Glocks
10. Blame magazines
11. Blame Wal-mart
12. Blame the NRA
13. Blame “demon weed.”
14. Blame semi-automatic machine guns
15. Blame the NRA
16. Blame republicans
17. Blame the Tea Party
18. Blame Heller/McDonald
19. Blame the 2nd Amendment
20. Blame the Founding Fathers
21. Blame the NRA
22. Blame Bush
23. Blame CCW permits
24. Blame youtube
25. Blame gays and soldiers, especially gay soldiers.
That last one actually made me feel better because it made me chuckle a bit.
I must be mentally defective because I place the blame squarely on the sick whack-job who planned the attack and carried out the attack. I’m funny that way.
But…that.is.not.the.point.of.this.post.
Just suppose someone “out there” reads those accusations and decides to “do something about it.”
Will the same people who make baseless accusations before the bodies reach room temperature accept the responsibility for “inciting violence” amongst those who read their words?
Will they even see the irony?
That is why we are here.
To show them that the enemy they perceive is their own mind.

Late Cold War Revisited
Regular reader Chas, following my 'Cold War Revisited' and 'More Commie Gear' posts, expressed a preference for E. German Rain Camo since it gave him fond memories of when the when the wall came down.
Always one to satisfy the requests of my readers, I present a 'Late Cold War' E. German uniform and field gear:
Standard uniform along w/ an AK mag pouch, field pack, zeltbahn, canteen and field cap. Now pictured is the correct belt and a breadbag. The magazine in the AK is a Bulgarian 20 rnd tanker.

Sickening Responses and Blatant Ignorance
Looking at the reactions to the shooting of Rep Gifford truly shows how pathetically ignorant much of the voting public is. Common statements go along the lines of :
And the gun control advocates are REVELING in it. If you don't think so, just read their posts. You can almost hear the glee that they're going to finally get some press time. The CSGV's Ladd Everitt, who considers the Second Amendment to be 'nonsense', is tweeting as fast as he can type. And when it's pointed out that they're making outright lies and inaccurate associations in order to ban and restrict more firearms, their defenders jump in w. more rhetoric like the above. Some even admit they don't know or care about the facts, they just want less guns. And their pet politicians are willing to comply w/ whatever nonsense bills they can throw together.
It's all those stupid GOPpers/Teabaggers/rightwingers fault. If it wasn't for their partisan hatemongering, this wouldn't have happened. We need to shut them up, take their guns, and put them in jail. And they have no idea why there's problems in communication. The same holds true for both sides.
