Bad Examples

I love beating the deceased equine that is the NGAC, a group made up of B and C listers in the anti-gun world.  Every time they put out some sort of 'definitive proof' for gun control and insult laden anti-NRA/Gun Owner screed, it just makes one more entry into the 'No Clue' evidence file. Take a look at their latest butt-hurt over the CO recalls:
Sure Columbine weapons were bought with no background check. Sure Aurora suspect James Holmes’ had a 100-round drum magazine.
Let's break those down a bit, shall we?

Of the two people that gave/sold guns to the Columbine shooters, one went to prison for knowingly selling to underage kids and owning a sawed-off shotgun.  Don't think he really cared about following the law there.  The other, a friend of the pair who knowingly straw-purchased guns from a show, conveniently escaped charges while testifying in front of Congress for background checks.  I'm sure there's no connection there.

Aurora?  The '100-round drum magazine' jammed up forcing him to switch, most of the damage was done w/ the shotgun.

Then there's this example:
Gun lovers are also not gloating about a law passed this week in Chicago that requires any business that serves alcohol to post signs banning guns on the premises.
Nope, we're not 'gloating', we're laughing because it's in direct violation of state law and the Aquilar decision.  Chicago is going to get its @ss handed to them in ANOTHER lawsuit.  So no 'gloating' on that....yet.

Keep throwing out those examples of 'gun control' though guys, it's as good as sending a check to the NRA.

Oh Look, Another 'Agenda Driven' Anti-Gun 'Study'.

Found this via an anti-gun group which links to the Soros puppet media 'Think Progress'.
The study, by Professor Michael Siegel at Boston University and two coauthors, has been peer-reviewed and is forthcoming in the American Journal of Public Health. Siegel and his colleagues compiled data on firearm homicides from all 50 states from 1981-2010, the longest stretch of time ever studied in this fashion, and set about seeing whether they could find any relationship between changes in gun ownership and murder using guns over time.
Note the adjectives,  'two coauthors'... and 'colleagues'.... Interesting terminology, don't you think?  Let's take a look at these two individuals, shall we?
Co-authors on the study include Craig Ross of Virtual Media Resources and Charles King III of Pleiades Consulting Group.
Holy Propaganda Specialists Batman!!!!

VMR's main page says:
You apply resources that will shape opinion, influence policy, and create change.
Virtual Media Resources provides information solutions, conducts analyses, and generates the intelligence you need to frame and advance your agenda.
As partners, we tackle the issues head on. We deliver unimpeachable media research to organizations seeking to shape public policy, and to media companies and brand marketers that are blazing new trails.
So two professional media manipulators showed a researcher how to churn out a paper to push an anti-gun agenda. Now I wonder why TP left those details out?

The Boston University School of Public Health is also a regular Joyce Foundation grant recipient.  Shocking, eh?

Fear, Insults and Obsessions w/ Genitalia Size

There really is no commentary I need to make about this.  For a look into the minds of 'intellectual' anti-gun advocates, read the comments on this Salon article.

Any questions?

For a response to the article itself, read Miguel's post.

'Voter Suppression' in Colorado

That's the meme that the CSGV tried to push to justify their loss in Colorado yesterday.

Turns out the 'suppression' was really by polling firms who didn't like the results they were getting:
“We did a poll last weekend in Colorado Senate District 3 and found that voters intended to recall Angela Giron by a 12 point margin, 54/42. In a district that Barack Obama won by almost 20 points I figured there was no way that could be right and made a rare decision not to release the poll. It turns out we should have had more faith in our numbers,” pollster Tom Jensen wrote in a post on the firm’s website Wednesday.
So they chose not to believe the (accurate) results because it didn't fit their political agenda. Since they didn't believe it, it didn't get into the media which we all know would have tried to bury the story anyway.   So PPP isn't a 'polling firm', it is a propaganda mill for the Democrat party.

Meaningless Awards To Meaningless People For Meaningless Reasons

So the ICHV, w/ zero membership, only surviving by grants from the Joyce Foundation, gets an award for 'Community Empowerment' for presumably getting a law passed that has no consequences for not following it.

And who gave them the 'award'?  Why Cook Cnty States Attorney Anita Alvarez who has stated she believes 'No-one should own a gun'.

Now compare that to the Illinois State Rifle Assoc. (30K+ members) which is about to receive the NRA (4M+ members) Association of the Year Award for the umpteenth time for getting a (admittedly not perfect) CCW law finally passed in IL, winning countless lawsuits against Chicago, etc. etc.

Which award plaque do you think will end up in a garage sale for $1?

Elliot Fineman Et Al. Stupid. Nothing Else But...

Did you know a 1/4" hole in a plane will cause the entire frame to disintegrate and people fly out visa vi 'Alive'

No Really!!!!  'Explosive Decompression' is REAL!!!!
Accidental discharges, in addition to killing passengers and crew members, can cause structural damage and in, certain cases, go through the plane’s fuselage causing everyone to be ejected from the plane due to explosive decompression.
I know I'm pummeling this deceased equine but I still get flabbergasted from time to time at the levels of absolute stupidity that is shown.

OOOOH! THAT'S Got to Hurt....

Right in the Jimmies.

Colorado Lawmakers Ousted in Recall Vote Over Gun Law

The only consolation the PuSH'ers will have is claiming the 'Gun Lobby/NRA' bought the election while ignoring the fact that Bloomie and their ilk dumped a whole lot more cash into the state.

Hypocrites be Hypocritical

Todd Vandermyde on Chicago Ald. Burke's private security while demanding gun control:

“He’s been a little unhappy about my comments to the press about the fact that he receives taxpayer-funded bodyguards. He doesn’t like the fact that we’re calling him out on it,” Vandermyde said.
“He thinks it’s fine to have bodyguards follow him around and carry in restaurants. But the average citizen should be treated like some second-class citizen because they don’t get taxpayer-funded bodyguards.”

Beating the 90% Canard to Death

A poll to 'rewrite the 2A for clarity' (IOW, police and military only) gets 90%+ in opposition.

Anti-gun groups consistently lose hired guns due to lack of funding.

Where does all their money come from to keep buying elections/legislators?  Mostly from just one person.

But the meme just won't die.

Book Series Etc. Review: The Col. Mike Hoare Mercenary Cronicles

Since I did my review of 'Congo Mercenary' last year, I've picked up a number of other books by Mike Hoare regarding his adventures in Africa. Instead of doing individual reviews, I'm going to lump them all here since they all follow a similar thread.

The Road to Kalamata:  This is somewhat of a prequel to 'Congo Mercenary' in that it occurs before the major communist insurrection when a rogue province of Katanga hired Hoare and his '4 Commando' to help shore up their military.  Not much action as compared to the other book but very dramatic as it details the units run-ins w/ the United Nations 'Peacekeeping' forces and the hunt for several members who were lost in the woods in areas controlled by an enemy known for torturing and killing prisoners.

Congo Warriors:  This isn't a history of the various conflicts directly but instead a collection of vignettes describing some of the more memorable and sometimes downright bizarre personalities Hoare worked w/ over the course of his Congo experiences.  Some are very entertaining, some 'meh'. US military veterans will definitely pick up on the differences between our services and ones based off of the British (same w/ 'Fireforce' by Cocks).

The Seychelles Affair: The final book in the series detailing  his attempt to re-instate the rightful gov't of the Seychelles Islands (becoming a complete and total cluster), his railroading by the South African courts, and his subsequent incarceration in the S.A. penal system.  Some of the experiences are right out of a spy novel and others like that of the Keystone cops.

The Wild Geese: Not a book by Hoare but a film that he was a technical advisor on in 1977, shortly before the events in they Seychelles above.  It relates a group of mercenaries run by 'Col. Allen Faulkner' who are hired to rescue a deposed African president from being killed.  Made in the UK, it has some more graphic scenes that is common in US films of the time although the hammy acting is typical, especially from Roger Moore.  Technical aspects (firearms, uniforms, etc) of the film are top notch.  It is also much more culturally progressive than was common in US films.  The unit medic was shown as a flaming homosexual but was accepted by all the members because he was damn good at his job.  There are also some interesting scenes of racial conflict and later understanding between several of the black characters and a South African officer.

On a personal note, Col. Hoare is still alive and I was able to send an email to him through Paladin Press.  I received a response from his son thanking me (geek out moment) and that his father is always glad to hear from fans/supporters. I also found on Ebay some of the original '5 Commando' patches sold by the family through SOF magazine to help w/ their finances during his incarceration.  Those are on order.

Currently Reading:  The Rhodesian War: A Military History by Moorcraft/McLaughlin
