Birthday swag + somewhat decent prices = things that go bang/boom.

This weekend some of it will go bang/boom. 

Called It. NG(V)AC Reasoned Discourse Kicks In.

As I noted yesterday, Elliot Fineman's NG(V)AC tried to put on their big boy panties but fell down trying to do both legs at the same time. 

They put up a nasty blog post called 'NRA-Hole of the week', this one focusing on IL State Rep Brandon Phelps who helped author the CCW bill, trying to appeal to the only people who pay attention to gun control when it's not in the news, the mouth foaming fanatics. As they tried stuffing their leg through the hole again, this is how they defended it:

We're not worried about keeping things "Classy" or even being politically correct. You gun-nuts are doing a fine job pleading your own case. Keep it up guys. We appreciate letting the public know exactly HOW mis-informed many people are and your paranoid rhetoric only helps others raise their awareness.

Well, as of about 1pm 7/12, the blog post on their site seems to have been taken down, giving a 404 Page not found error.  Whomever is running the FB page has also played the 'avoid any questions by changing the subject' game and has so far stopped responding when their stale talking points were called out.

AHOY!! Reasoned Discourse Ahead Me Mateys!!! Update

No idea why the title. Maybe because I just ate Long John Silvers. 

Seems Elliot Fineman of the NGAC has conned some poor shlub into running their FB site and the individual either:

1) Doesn't know that interacting w/ us makes them look like idiots and gives us lots of soundbytes/blogfodder (see below)

and/or

2) got tired of us using the site as our own personal pro-gun source visa-vie the old Brady Campaign blog.

Either way, it was fun.  They started out w/ this:

Well that can't be right.  The NGAC has specifically stated 'There's no such thing as a law abiding citizen'.  So I ask them why the policy change.  I also educate them on what the NGAC endorses along w/ 'background checks'. Their response is both odd and typical.

Now the stereotypical character attacks I understand, it's all they really have (no comments about my genitalia however) but the rest of it is just rambling.  My 'conclusions' of the NGAC were formed many moons ago when they first started their incoherent posts. So I did what any good pro-rights blogger would do and posted links w/ screencaps proving every statement I made. You know. Those darn facts. The response? 

Now that's an interesting comment.  Especially since, according to my traffic logs, this person didn't view a single one of the links which showed the truth.  So I asked again about their policy shift.  The response that time was entirely predictable:

So soon I predict we'll see either:

A) Lots of pro-rights comments being deleted/banned

or

B) Skippy getting tired of having his/her ass handed to them and quietly disappear, leaving their page in our hands again.

And it gets even better. Apparently city-folk are part of a 'hive' filled w/ 'wrong' people that need to be controlled.  Think I'm kidding?

Eco-Terrorists vs Hired Paramilitaries

So a mining company in Wisconsin is doing test drilling. Protesters don't like it so..well.. protest.  Some  eco nuts decide to up the ante, start vandalizing the site and threatening the lives/homes of workers. Company then hires an armed security company from AZ, knowing that groups like ELF have cause millions of dollars in damage in the past. People really go nuts after that.

How do the anti-gunners spin it?*

No direct mention of the threats made or damage done by the eco-terrorists (also masked btw), only comparisons of the security to South American death squads.  So I guess it's ok to threaten/attack employees of a company you don't like but it's not ok for them to defend themselves.  Really tells you where his priorities lie.

Elliot Fineman/NG(V)AC: Mental Health History 'Meaningless' for Background Checks

So we can present this as the formal position of the NG(V)AC when other anti-gun groups push for mental health records to be included. Especially since much of the board is made up of board members from other organizations.

Works for me.

Gun Crime in Nevada

A used Glock for $950?  That is a crime.  Everything else is ambiguous.

The cop showed good judgement in asking if he had ever committed a crime. However he did not reveal he was under the protective custody of his parents and had been in a mental institution for suicide. He had been under a 'Legal 2000' hold for 72 hr evaluation which may or may not have shown up in records. No mention if he was involuntarily committed after that. Since his parents had control of him, what was he doing out at 4am? 

So really, articles like this are just misinformation and fear-mongering.  'could', 'should have', are not words that should appear unless the writers are either sloppy or just trying to score points by misleading the public.

The Ms.Magazine Train Wreck To Continue?

 A few weeks ago, Brady Campaign Chairthing Heidi Yewman posted an article in Ms. Magazine about how stupid she is. 

Well they pulled the series because of the influx of comments, some putting up her home address (which is supported by most anti-gun advocates in the case of firearm owners/CCW BTW), and causing them to cancel the series.

According to a statement released today, Ms. Magazine is asking Yewman to continue it on their site.  I really hope they do. These articles can only go to help pro-firearm rights by showing the deliberate ignorance of anti-gun activists even in the face of all the opportunities for education. The simplest being the manual that comes w/ the gun that Yewman bought.
