Family Traditions Continued

My dad and I used to go camping alot.  Invariably it would always rain and we would have to completely change our plans.  It turned into a running joke over the years it happened so often.

One of the first times was a trip planned to Iowa.  We were going to go to an aircraft museum and then a model train museum along w/ a couple of other misc. stops.  When we got to the campground, it was considerably more expensive than listed in the travel guide w/ fewer amenities. No biggie. We had a camper. When we opened it up, however, we discovered we had forgotten the toilet.  And the door. So, since it started raining, we rigged up a couple of trash bags and tie down straps and played poker most of the night.

The next day we went to the air museum. 90% of which turned out to be outside.  Not happening. Next stop, the train museum.  It was closed for the season. Alright. We're done. Time to head home.  On the way, we stopped at a Walmart and bought a couple of ball caps.  I still have them somewhere.

The last trip we went on, we decided to head down to North Carolina to tour some mines.  Then the weather hit.  Since it was early in the year, not only rain but a handy amount of sleet as well. No chance of making it up the roads to the mine.  We had some relatives in SC so gave them a call, drove for a few more hours and spent some time w/ them.  On the way back, we stopped at one of the many Lincoln sites in the US. This one was the birthplace in Kentucky.  The museum was nice, the 'offsite' gift shop reeked of cat pee.

Well the tradition continues. Today Fourthpower Alpha and I went on his first cub scout campout.  Hot out but only a low chance of showers in the evening.  Well, that low chance of showers turned into a 100% chance of thunderstorms lasting into the night about 2 hrs after we got there and set up. The deluge hit, turning the campsite into a marsh, exceeding the limits of our (admittedly cheap) tent, and soaking our sleeping bags.

So they did some improv. scouting stuff (rope tying) since all the outside activities they had planned had to be cancelled then people started packing it in.  We stopped at a McDonalds for some supper and headed home.

Even though it was short, we had a good time. Can't help but to laugh.

Morse Recall Harassment?

According to the Recall Sen. Morse page, people who signed the petition are being called at home and harassed into removing their names.
Apparently, Morse’s DC tactics are at it again. Many people who signed the petition are being called and being pressured to recant their signature on the petition. We are asking folks to let us know if you feel intimidated by these calls or are being overtly coerced in any way.

Go to gotremorse.com and click on Contact Us to report if you feel unduly pressured or intimidated by their calls.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me at all.

Bloomberg Bus Tour Mourns Terrorists, Cop Killers and Child Abusers

Not only the Boston Bomber but also Dorner, the CA nutball, as well as several other murders and criminals are all on the list of 'gun victims' that MAIG's NoMoreGuns tour is mourning.

Isn't that just special?

I'm sure they'll issue another apology and vet their list yet again.  What this shows is the level of incompetence in even this organization filled w/ professional PR people hired by Bloomie to push his agenda.  As Sebastian TBFKASIH has noted, we expect these kind of amateurish mistakes from groups like the VPC, CSGV and now the Brady Campaign but it's surprising to see from MAIG.

Update:  The 'apologies' and counter-attacks begin.
Rather than debating whether some of the 6,210 people who’ve been killed since Newtown deserved to be shot, we are focused on the actual issue: 33 people are murdered in America every single day with a gun. Our focus is on educating the public about the toll of gun violence and the need for common-sense laws to combat it. The people who are protecting criminals are people like Kelly Ayotte, who are making it easier for felons and the dangerously mentally ill to get guns by blocking background checks for all gun sales.
Translation:  Don't you dare make us adhere to anything resembling the truth or facts and listen to our emotional rhetoric you uncaring monsters.

See? It's OUR fault they're incompetent and didn't vet their list BEFORE reading it in a public venue.

Update II: It keeps getting better:
The review of 617 killings found that 50 were suspects in crimes ranging from assault to murder, not the type of violence Bloomberg’s group suggests in its “No More Names” campaign to draw attention to the estimated 6,000 gun death “tragedies” since the mid-December Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newton, Conn....

A separate analysis looked at 13 gun deaths in Montana listed on the Slate list used by Bloomberg’s group. It found that more than half were the result of police shootings or suicide.
Again though, the facts don't matter, only the emotion.

IL Special Session on Pensions July 9th... Hmmmm

July 9th...... July 9th.... Where have I heard that date before?  Hmmm... Let me think...

Oh right, it just 'happens' to be the day that the courts have given the state to pass a CCW bill before the ban goes away and we 'go over the cliff'.

So knowing the keystone legislators we have in this state, one can fully expect it to be a complete circus w/ victims being trotted out to tell their stories to try and guilt the pols into supporting a veto along w/ the same 'debates' that have been hashed, rehashed and hashed again in committees.  Quinn wants a 'no carry' bill and he doesn't care how many pairs of blood dancing shoes he ruins to get it.

I've heard from some sources that any vetoes will be overridden and that things will start moving pretty quickly after that.

I trust these sources but I'm a jaded individual (aka realist) and fully expect them to try and shaft us again somehow.

A Trolling For The Ages

Sometimes running a stupid person around in circles for several hours can be more entertaining/relaxing than a good book.

Warning: Long read and don't have any heavy objects nearby.

Boston Bomber "Victim of Gun Violence"

Apparently they read Tamerlan Tsarnaev's name as a 'victim' during the MAIG 'No More Guns' tour.
Some of the loudest shouts came when a reader spoke the name of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects who was killed by police during a gunfight.
"He's a terrorist," several protesters shouted.
This isn't surprising as anti's regularly include criminals and spousal abusers as 'victims' if they were killed w/ guns.  Adding terrorists is just the next logical step.

And yeah, pro-rights activists outnumbered the paid anti-gun activists about 60-40.

TBFKASIH has more.

MAIG Concord, NH Anti-Gun Rally Gets Lively

MAIG's 'No More Guns' tour's top secret agenda isn't keeping people from protesting. In Concord, NH, it looks like there were quite a few people who showed up in opposition.

One of the protesters pushed the envelope and interrupted one of the speakers on the podium.  Police were contacted and ended up tazing the guy.

This should be an entertaining tour for MAIG as more and more people show up to protest their anti-rights agenda.

Brady Campaign:"Everyone's As Stupid As We Are"

So now get this story, BradyBot Chairthing Heidi Yewman decided to 'prove' how easy it is to get and carry a firearm even for ignorant, stupid people.  So, being ignorant and stupid, she does so.
Tony told me a Glock doesn’t have an external safety feature, so when I got home and opened the box and saw the magazine in the gun I freaked. I was too scared to try and eject it as thoughts flooded my mind of me accidentally shooting the gun and a bullet hitting my son in the house or rupturing the gas tank of my car, followed by an earth-shaking explosion. This was the first time my hands shook from the adrenaline surge and the first time I questioned the wisdom of this 30-day experiment.
She's seen to many movies and read to many Brady press releases although assuming the gun was loaded is one of the '4 Rules'.
I needed help. I drove to where a police officer had pulled over another driver. Now, writing this, I realize that rolling up on an on-duty cop with a handgun in tow might not have been fully thought through.
I told him I just bought a gun, had no clue how to use it. I asked him to make sure there were no bullets in the magazine or chamber. He took the magazine out and cleared the chamber. He assured me it was empty and showed me how to look. Then he told me how great the gun was and how he had one just like it.
Yeah, she needs mental help if she has a panic attack even seeing a gun w/ a magazine in it.
The cop thought I was an idiot and suggested I take a class. But up to that point I’d done nothing wrong, nothing illegal.
Most people probably think she's an idiot w/o it having anything to do w/ firearms.
The gun makes me more fearful than I could have imagined.
In some way, I feel a certain vindication. I was right to protest Starbucks policy. Today, they have a woman with absolutely no firearms training and a Glock on her hip sitting within arm’s reach of small children, her hands shaking and adrenaline surging.
Which just increases the likelyhood of something happening.

Basically one of two things will happen.

1) Nothing.  She will basically show that even being ignorant and stupid /= death and destruction although that won't stop her righteous indignation against firearm ownership.

2) Something. Her ignorance and stupidity will prove her right.  She'll have a negligent discharge, possibly hurting someone, but she'll be vindicated as she deals w/ all the legal ramifications of her negligence.

How We Will Win

Yesterday was not only the 6 month anniversary of Sandy Hook, allowing anti's to renew their blood dancing w/ their huge followings, but was also the 2nd annual 'Take your daughter to the range' day. I wasn't able to take mine out this weekend because of crappy weather but we'll be going out again soon.

Instead of yanking kids' toys out of their hands for a 'chance' to win a prize, pro-rights activists teach children safety and spend time together as families in positive situations.
