Preppers

Working last night at the mall, I had several people come up and ask me if I was a 'Prepper', a person who gets prepared for the worst. Not in a 'Are you a crazy bomb throwing anarchist' kind of way, but in a 'Where can I get more information' way. Many of them have seen the show 'Doomsday Preppers' on Nat'l Geographic.

How far we've come.

'Preppers' used to be called 'Survivalists' and created images of bearded nutcases living off the grid in the mountains with hundreds of guns and ranting about UN black helicopters. You've still got those w/o a doubt but now lots of people, urban and rural, are realizing that if the electricity goes out for more than a few days, they might really be in trouble, realizing that going to the stadium expecting the gov't to come help may not be the best solution.

Not all of them are going to continue, it is likely just a fad. But for every one that DOES 'prep', even to handle just a few weeks/months, is one less UN-prepared person that will expect me to share what I have (and leaving disappointed).

Any Excuse Not to do Homework

A math teacher asked this question as 'Extra Credit' on a h/w assignment:

"A plantation owner had 100 slaves. If three-fifths of them are counted for representation, how many slaves will be counted?"

Now what relevance to learning could that possibly have? Hmm. Let me think.

Oh, right. The THREE-FIFTHS compromise in the US Constitution. Pretty relevant to the AA community and history overall, wouldn't you say?

And the teacher?

Jackson said he has given the African-American teacher who he says gave the homework the benefit of the doubt.

Read the excuses given for opposition to the question in the article. I'ld say the people who are 'offended' CAN'T answer the question, either historically or mathematically.

@CSGV's Ladd Everitt Continuing the Race Baiting

Ladd Everitt , Comm Dir. of the CSGV, doesn't like to be called out on their blatant hypocrisy regarding the FL Zimmerman shooting as the refuse to condemn violent and criminal calls against him. So in response, he plays the race card:
Yep. That's right. I'M a racist because I copy/pasted a quote from an group that fits the very definition of CSGV's 'insurrectionist'.

They don't care about 'justice' or the Martin family except how they can be exploited as political tools.

'Testing' or 'Defrauding' IL Election Results

Well it seems an ABC affiliate posted primary election results the day before voting even occurred and from what I'm also hearing is that news sources have reported 'record low turnout' since just minutes after the polls opened at 6am.

I'm sure it was just a 'test' and 'technical error' was made.

Sure. That's how much I trust the political process right now.

College Level Math?

The local University paper is a rag full of budding 'authorized journalists' who have a bad habit of mis-spelling even their own advertisements. It comes as no surprise that they come out against CCW for Illinois.

They 'surveyed' a whopping 40 students (out of about 12,000), many not even eligible to own a handgun, to ask if they'ld carry a firearm. Let's look at the results:

Out of the 40 students, 27.5 percent said they would not carry a firearm, fearing they might cause a self-induced injury.

That would be 11 out of 40.

Twenty-five percent of Eastern students polled said they would not carry guns because of the violence they could bring to campus.

That would be 10 out of 40.

More than 22 percent of students said they feel safe enough on Eastern’s campus without guns.

More than 17 percent of polled students said they just have no desire to ever carry a gun.

Five percent of polled students said they fear guns.

2/40

Over 2 percent of students said they will not carry guns because they were raised in a household that did not believe in the use of handguns.

So it appears the questions were loaded to NOT carrying firearms and they still couldn't get a clear majority of answers opposing it.

This is what the education system is teaching budding 'journalists' to do and the lack of critical thinking in today's University students.

Weep for the future.

Illinois Primary '12

For the first time in years, IL is actually a 'battleground state' for the primary. Usually it's been effectively decided by now but this year it's still close (although I still hold to my hypothesis this is all just staged for a Romney win) and the robo-calls we've been getting confirm it. A dozen or more a day for various candidates to the point we've turned the ringer volume down and shut off the answering machine.

As for who I'm going to vote for? I can't stand Mittens or Porn boy so I think I'm going to throw away my vote on Paul. No matter which marginally polished turd ends up 'winning', we lose.

Same goes for for State Rep. Political hacks and amateurs, none of which will make ANY difference in Springfield as they continue to sell their votes to the highest bidder.

Or maybe I'll just stay home and clean my guns.

'Gang Related'

Feel like crap but I had to post this.

One of the people killed this weekend in Chicago was a 6yr old girl named Aliyah Shell. Here's the info on her alleged murderers:

Juan Barraza, 18, and a 16-year-old boy charged as an adult who police would not name, have been charged with murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the slaying of Aliyah Shell. Both teens are said to be affiliated with the Latin Kings street gang, police said.

So I'm guessing these were both 'good boys' and 'honor students' just going out to get some milk for their invalid grandmothers. But let's take a look at the victims family:

Police described members of the family as gang affiliated. Police are investigating whether the suspects were gunning for members of a rival gang, the Two-Sixers.

So the family put the little girl in harms way. The cycle will continue:

As relatives and friends passed through the Springfield Avenue home, they walked past a lone pink stuffed bunny on the steps to the home. The Two Six gang uses a bunny with a bent ear as its symbol.

Aliyah’s memorial pink bunny had one ear flopped down.

But remember, according to Father "Snuffy" Phleger and Mayor Rahm Emanual, this is all YOUR fault for wanting to own guns. YOU should be held accountable because the criminals in Chicago, the city w/ the 2nd highest gang population in the country, don't care about the lives of their own children. They think that passing laws punishing YOU will stop violent gang banging thugs from shooting anyone that gets in their way.

Does that make any sense whatsoever?

Another 'Chicago' Weekend

While 'Da Mayors' have spent millions on lawyers and legal fees to keep their gun laws as restrictive as possible, for the gang-bangers and other violent criminals it's business as usual:

Five people were killed and at least 12 other people wounded in shootings Saturday night and Sunday morning across the city...
The evening attacks come following the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old girl and the wounding of four other people in Chicago within an hour Saturday afternoon, and 16 shootings, including the slaying of a 42-year-old man, overnight Friday and early Saturday morning.

So the 'reasonable, common-sense' solution is to make the rest of the state's firearm owners pay for the city's incompetence in controlling its criminals.
