Lying WaPo Reporters

In a hit piece, a couple of 'Authorized Journalists' ( the kind Sen Dick Durbin wants to give exclusive 1A licenses) completely make up facts when they're not quoting Bloomberg as gospel. Case in point, the recent tragic and preventable shooting regarding a 9yr old and a fully auto Uzi:
The gun used at the shooting range incident, an Uzi, is a submachine gun that could be classified as either a handgun or a long gun depending on the model and any modifications to the gun. While federal law would prohibit minors from owning the pistol version of the gun, there are no such federal restrictions on the rifle version.
Except, you know, those laws heavily restricting fully auto firearms under licensing, tax stamps, background checks etc. and limiting new manufacture of civilian ones.

The hit piece continues:
But it’s important to note that these numbers could be too low. A recent study found that federal reports of accidental child gun deaths are significantly underreported. There’s good reason to assume that accidental gun deaths and injuries are underreported for all ages.
That 'good reason'?  Bloomberg's millions.  Seriously.  The 'recent study' is by Bloomie's 'Everytown' puppets assuming the numbers are higher because they want them to be.  That's their evidence.

And THIS is why fewer and fewer people trust the media to get anything right.

Brady Campaign Wants To Come Out & Play

So an organization w/ effectively no current membership, 'reduced' staff, and no influence want to get their 'grassroots' on against Illinois firearm owners:

What: National Bad Apple Gun Dealer Campaign Kick-off
Event Location: Chuck’s Guns - 14310 S Indiana Ave, Riverdale, IL 60827
When: Saturday, September 6
Time: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM
This is the same shop where Father Phleger threatened to 'snuff out' firearm dealers.

I certainly think that we can round up a few people to attend, don't you?

H/T to GSL

Short Movie Review: The Gamers: Humans & Households / Natural One

These are two mini-series set in the world of 'The Gamers' movies w/ many of the same characters and cast.

'Humans & Households' is a role-playing game for heroes and adventurers to use to escape their daily life of slaughtering orcs and killing dragons.  You can take on the role of 'Nurse', 'Student', 'Athlete' and other mundane jobs while you attempt to cross the street w/o getting run over or get past the guard dog in the kitchen.

This 3 part series had tears running down my eyes.  Take your normal group of gamers and turn it on its head.  Then throw in enough social commentary to tick off everyone at least once and you have a winner.

Natural 1 is a direct spinoff from the movies.  'Gary's' sister is getting married but they have to test the potential groom to see if he's gamer material by running him through a live or die Cyberpunk campaign.

While not quite as funny as H&H, it definitely has some funny bits in it, the story keeps you involved and the campaign itself is classic Cyberpunk though I could definitely give them a hand w/ some of the puns.  I'm wondering what they're going to do w/ the 'knitting club' bit in the beginning and if it will spawn a mini-series of its own.

4/5 stars and will definitely be watched again.  Looking forward to getting the DVD propper to see if there are any 'extras'.

Gun-Ban Groups Cry

I hear them yell "It Burns.... It Freeeeeezzzeeessss" When they read headlines like this:

Chicago crime rate drops as concealed carry applications surgeCity sees fewer homicides, robberies, burglaries, car thefts as Illinois residents take arms
Now I'm not one to claim causality but the coincidences on this are sure piling up. Out of the tens of thousands of CCW holders, so far they've had an issue w/ one in Chicago. One of which the much vaunted system of Sheriff approval should have caught.

On the other hand, this might not be true as the CPD have been caught fudging crime data to artificially reduce violent crime.

So which is it gun control supporters?  Has CCW NOT increased the number of shootings and coincided w/ a decrease in crime or have the authorities, the ones we're told are the only ones trained and professional enough to handle firearms, lied and abused their authority?

Indi Movie Review: Project London

Ah, Independent films.  They are a roll of the dice.

My first day of GenCon 2014, I picked up a DVD called Project: London being sold by Jen Page, an actress in the film.  The plot outline from their FB page:
Nebraska Higgins leads a normal, easy life in Seattle and works as a mechanic at Joint Command’s Control Tower. Joint Command is Earth’s global police and military force established as a union between old Earth governments and Nalardian refugees and powered by their technology. Nebraska plunges into a world of struggle and intrigue after Joint Command kills his father, a hero known by his large robotic exo-suit, Arizona.

Jerry, (a gas-mask wearing Nalardian), Benin Belabora, (a calm but powerful mastermind), and Xing Xing Fix, (the knitting maven of mayhem), keep Nebraska safe from the pursuing Joint Command whilst trying to recruit him to the London Underground. Meanwhile, Nebraska discovers that the experiments which destroyed the Nalardian’s home world have been resurrected, and a force unlike any the universe can imagine is about to be unleashed. Can Nebraska deal with the loss of his father as interplanetary calamities threaten to destroy the world around him? Earth’s fate depends on the potential in a young man’s heart.
Now this information is important to know because they don't explain most of it until about 2/3rds of the way into the film.  Since I didn't look at the FB page first, nor was it on the jacket, this left me w/ many 'WTF?' moments while watching it as I tried to figure out what was going on. I think the script writers had an idea in mind for their world and expected viewers to have the same vision.  IOW, between that and the increasingly common 'ADD Theatre' scene/frame switching every couple seconds made the movie really hard to follow.

Once you figure out the background though, the story is actually pretty good along w/ some excellent CGI for a super-low budget film.  And you can't help but like the mysterious, gasmask/trenchcoat wearing character 'Jerry', arguably the best part of the movie.

I'm only going to give this a 1.5/5 stars (sorry Ms. Page).  It's doubtful I'll watch it again and am thinking the only reason I'll keep it is due to the autographs I have on the cover.
