The letter worked. No FBI raid today. Family came by and brought even more of their extended family.
Some of the younger guys were ecstatic over being able to actually shoot some of the guns they use in Call of Duty and the other games. They're going to be future enthusiasts.
My cousin got to break in his virgin AR build and practice some handgun tacticals.
Uncle and Aunt, both relatively new to shooting, also got to practice with their handguns and try out some of the others available.
Friends of the wife's stopped by as well. The husband, a former Marine, really enjoyed shooting my AR since it's nearly identical to the A1's he used way back when.
Then we grilled much dead animal and gorged ourselves.
Some preliminary photos from my camera. I'll add more as the attendees send me them.
More Shooty fun on Saturday.

Lest They Forget
Oh wait, they already have. The media has a selective memory when it comes to 'extremists'.
Just six months ago, the FBI raided the houses of followers of a 60's leftist radical (Black Panther, SNCC, etc.)who is currently in prison for murdering police officers in 2002. They did not come quietly.

Dear FBI,
I'm having family over tomorrow.
We're going to do some target shooting.
Yes, they are devout Christians.
Please do not raid us.
If you do, bring your own burgers and hotdogs.
Best Regards,
Thirdpower

Too Funny..
Josh Sugarmann's Violence Policy Center, the same group that admits to deliberately misleading people in order to ban everything from handguns to hunting rifles, has accused me of 'misquoting' them . To bad for them their SOP of 'reasoned discourse' encourages efforts to retain their flubs .
Now let's play 'count the traffic'. Who wants to lay odds I won't even have to take off my shoes?
Update: 2 The Joyce Foundation is really getting their money's worth. Aren't they?

VPC Misquotes... Shock
W/ the recent indictment of a group that was allegedly planning on attacking police*, the VPC has jumped at the chance to try and ban guns. Problem is they continue to lie to try and do it. The VPC quotes (via twitter) the ex-wife of the group leader as saying:
What she really said:
Not that we really expect anything in the way of honesty from them.
Update: Retaining their issues w/ the truth, the VPC is accusing me of 'misquoting' them.
So what exactly did I 'misquote'?
Poor Joshie. I guess this is why you folks had your budget cut.
* this is called 'due process' for those unfamiliar w/ the concept (ie Rahm Emanual, Brady Campaign, John Rosenthal et. al)
"when he went from handguns to big guns, she said “I’m done.”Implying that anyone who buys a long-gun is intent on overthrowing the gov't.
What she really said:
"When he got carried away from handguns to big guns, I said, 'I'm done.'"Well that certainly changes the meaning of the sentence, doesn't it?
Not that we really expect anything in the way of honesty from them.

Needing Help in Virginia
In a situation similar to Illinois where the ISP has a habit of delaying the issuing of FOID cards when they want to push for a revenue increase, the VCDL in Virginia is questioning the delaying of state level background checks. The excuse, like Illinois, is lack of funding yet VA firearm owners are charged a fee for these checks.
Where is that $2 fee per background check going? Why, during RECORDIf you are a Virginia firearm dealer or owner that has experienced delays in the state background check system, the VCDL would like you to contact them.
firearms sales, is there no money for MORE employees, much less not
enough to replace those who have left?
Folks, this doesn't smell right and we plan on investigating.
