A MishMosh of Gun & Game Stuff

Everyone.... This is Betsy.  Betsy's 'formal' name is Norinco Model 99 but I think Betsy is much better. She's a side by side split breach 12ga commonly known as a 'Coach Gun'.  She was my first 'home defense' firearm and has a special place outside of some excessive recoil and a tendency to pop off the grip if I don't hold onto her tightly.

Betsy was also the victim of the DampRid spill the other day, causing some corrosion and the loss of her stock shell sleeve.  Well Betsy's back in her finery, a basic model from Amazon, w/ some extra shells I had.

Ain't she purty?

This morning I also got a call from a good friend of mine who had read about the corrosion disaster. He's sending me a new bolt assembly for my AR.  THAT is how the gun community rolls.

On the game front...

I attended GenCon last year (2014) but was unaware of the Crystal Caste annual dice. I found some on Ebay and ordered some.  They arrived today.  One is going to my painting friend.  The other has been added to the dice display.

My Painting friend also, in exchange for picking him up some stuff, gave me a bunch of his older GC special sets.

And a few Misc.  From KenzerCo of Knights of the Dinner Table fame, I wanted to get a T-shirt but they didn't have them at the Con so I ordered one when I got home.

And some novelty dice, a D1million (so to speak):

It's...Um..... My Collection

So my new shooter, the niece's SO, a History/Philosophy major (Would you like fries w/ that?) made the comment when we were getting ready to hit the range "Wow, I've never seen so many guns" as he looked in my safe.  Now my safe's only middling size and isn't even full.

Then I yanked everything out to inspect any potential damage from the RidDamp spill.  W/ all of them out and lined up for inspection/rearrangement (due to the 4thpowers' new 10/22's), it was the perfect time for a 'family photo'.

The non-.22 rifles:
NDM-86 Dragunov
Mosin/Nagant 91/30 1942 Izhevsk PU style sniper
Chinese M53
Norinco SKS
Soviet SKS 1952
SAR-1 AK
Colt SP-1 AR
Ruger Mini-14
2 K98k's

.22's, shotguns, pellet guns

Norinco mod. 99 (Betsy(
Single shot 20 ga.
2 Red Rider bb guns (Alpha & Bravo's)
Marlin mod. 81
Marlin mod 60 (CinC's)
3 Ruger 10/22's (Bravo's, Alpha's, Mine)

And the handguns:
Beretta 92S
Makarov
.38 spec. Revolver (CinC's)

Back in their house, all neat and orderly:

It's a nice little collection.  There's a few other items I'ld like to pick up eventually.  M1 Garand.  One of those StG-44 repro's.  Mini-30.  But those are far in the future.

Ruuuuuuuussssstttt!!!!!

Oh the horror.

When I pulled out Betsy, my coach gun, the other day, I discovered that the RidDamp container had tipped and that that crap is HIGHLY corrosive.

The shells and the sleeve are a complete loss, totally fused together which really blows because I had some specialty home defense/less lethal rounds in it. A complete disassembly showed that the rust was limited to the triggers and guard.  An hour or so w/ linseed oil, 0000 steel wool, and some fine modeling files got most of the rust off and smoothed them back down w/ only some blue-ing loss.

Then the really bad was found.  As I pulled out the rest of the guns and inspected them, I found a small spot on the Colt SP-1 AR.  A spot right on the edge of the grip holes.

Crap.

Complete breakdown showed the stuff had run down the inside.  This is what the bolt assembly looked like:

The inside was even worse.  Effectively a complete loss.  Thankfully I kept the original one.  The upper and lower assemblies I was able to clean out relatively easily, oiled up, and reassembled.

What a sucky experience.

So who is willing to help fund a replacement bolt assembly and ammo and hopefully a portable dehumidifier?  :)

Sunday Gunday :) & :(

So the Fourthpowers celebrated their #'th Bday.

I got tired of them mooching off my ammo.  So:
Yeah, thanks dad.  Ha ha.

Then THE gift(s) came out.

THAT is some happiness right there.  Their first 10/22's along w/ a scope and some starter ammo.  Weather allowing, we'll take them out today for some test firing.

A little while later, I took the niece's SO out to throw some lead.  Only a quick range trip w/ the AK and Dragunov since they had to get on the road and we were being eaten alive by bugs.  Still he enjoyed himself a lot and learned some things he didn't know before:

Then the unhappy. When I was pulling out the bang sticks, I discovered that at some point, the container of water absorber had gotten tipped and it had caused some evil corrosion on my coach gun, ruining several shells of specialty rounds and serious rust on the triggers and cover.

I've got some cleaning to do tomorrow but overall a positive day.

That's how we win.
