Where Are The Shootings? (pt II) NRAAM vs Chicago

 http://www.quickmeme.com/img/9b/9b55d451b94eda48e15f76adca5a9527514624d23325f981783e02fb1fc6f334.jpg

So going on day two of the NRAAM and there have been no riots, brawls, or shootings among the tens of thousands of attendees, 9% who are supposed to have anger issues and are armed.

Then there's Chicago over the same time period:

1 dead, 6 injured in separate shootings
The victim was arguing with another male who shot him in the chest
Two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.....someone inside a passing dark-colored Jeep yelled gang slogans and opened fire, police said.
The man refused to cooperate with police.
an SUV pulled up and someone fired shots, striking him in the face.
Now I'm going to guess that there wasn't a FOID or CCW present in any of these cases nor the shooters owning '6 or more guns'.

Where Are The Shootings

So the Anti's have glommed onto another BS 'study' claiming that 9% of firearm owners are 'Impulsively Angry', ready to shoot up anyone at a moments notice especially if they own '6 or more guns'.  Of course their suggestions are to 'preemptively' confiscate guns and enable discriminatory laws on CCW.

We've already seen those laws in action and the authorities abusing them.

Show me the violence.

70K people at the NRAAM which for 8 years has allowed CCW in all but one location.  No fights, no brawls, no shootings.

Thousands of gun shows each year across the nation.  The number of altercations are so low as not even to register on any crime report as a category.

Hundreds if not thousands of ranges across the nation.  Same as above.

Why are all these mad dog killers in waiting NOT shooting up these places filled w/ other MDKIW's?

Look at their numbers in context.  Over 500,000 attendees at NRAAM over the last 8 yrs. The authors claim 45,000 of them have anger issues and 500 of them 'carry guns outside the home'. Find an incident.

Guess what?  I would wager ammo that 'those people' own 6 guns or more more often than not.

Who the hell are they 'interviewing'?  How many of them are prohibited persons in the first place?

This is 'science' w/ an agenda.  Conveniently released the same time as the NRAAM possibly in order to give journalistic hacks something to ambush attendees w/ at the show.

This is why firearm owners should never speak to any 'researcher' or 'pollster' because they WILL use it to de-humanize and stereotype firearm owners.

Know Your Enemies

Just like when the Joyce Foundation used to list their grant recipients showing that they were funding most of the anti-gun activism in the US, looking at the money can teach you many things.  The other day I posted an article about the Gun Violence Prevention PAC in Illinois facing a lawsuit for not paying their bills.  Thanks to GSL, their lists are much more interesting than previously thought.

They seem to have two separate PAC's.  One the G-PAC and the other the GPAC 'Independent Expenditure'  operating out of the same place.  THAT seems to be where the big money is hidden.  The first one has a handful of donations in the $250-$1k range from various people mostly in the burbs and Chicago.  The second.. Oh the second... makes it interesting.

3rd quarter '14, one guy dropped $80k into them.

4th Quarter of '14, State Sen's. Heather Steans, Dan Kotowski, and Don Harmon all dropped $25k into it.  Methinks they're paid too much but they're the 'usual suspects'  .  The Illinois Education Assoc. (Illinois PAC for Education) and Western Suburb Teachers Union put in $22,500.

This one caught my eye: Citizen Action dropped $100K into it.  Never heard of them so I looked them up.  Their header: Leading the way in the fight for the progressive agenda  You pretty much know what to expect from that.  Interestingly enough, they have nothing on gun control in their issues page or their 2014 report. The only place I found anything was in their 2015 Chicago politician questionairre. Seems $100k isn't really an 'issue' to them.

The biggest 'expenditures' were $80K to one person for 'mailing' and $230K to a media group.  They finished up the year w/ only about $4k in the bank. The 'consultant' Kathleen Sances is getting about $2500/month from each 'PAC' so she's raking in over $5k a month. Not a bad gig.

Once again proving that 'gun control' has very little in the way of 'grassroots' and is mostly funded by a few rich elites and 'progressive' organizations.

Hangin w/ Rand Paul

So the other day Rand and I were out on the back porch drinking some brandy and discussing his upcoming campaign.  He asks when I'm going to donate and I tell him to pop me an email w/ a link.  He says "Cool, I'll get right on it.".  Well apparently it got caught in the spam trap and I didn't see it so Rand got all concerned and jumped on his staff to get it taken care of.
From: Rand Paul [rand.paul@randpaul2016.com]
Sent: Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 7:28 AM
Subject: Roy's donation

Alexandra --

Can you please follow up with Roy?

I've sent two emails regarding our "Stand with Rand" Money Bomb and haven't heard back.

The great news is we're over $650,000 raised, but we need to keep going.

I'm counting on Roy's support, so please send an email right away.

With their support, we can defeat the Washington machine and take our country back.

In Liberty,

Rand
Well Alexandra emailed me all worried:

Roy,

Rand asked me to email you.

Is everything ok?

He announced his candidacy for President of the United States, and I know he is counting on your support for the campaign's "Stand with Rand" Money Bomb.

The entire political world is watching this Money Bomb and it's vital this effort be as successful as possible.

They know a big Money Bomb for Senator Paul means the Washington machine's Big Government, big spending days are numbered.

To get Senator Paul's campaign off the ground and running, he's going to have to post a fundraising total that makes heads spin.

And he is counting on your support to make it happen.

However, our records show you haven't made a contribution.

Oh yeah, I'll take care of that right away.  Can't let my buddy Rand hang, right?

I'm sure several others of you have gotten worried emails like this after your garden parties w/ Rand.   These apparently came from 'Paramount Communication Group'.  Some have suggested, based off of the names used in the header, that this may have come from an NAGR email list.  All I know is that this company should go back to calling senile 80 yr olds for their bank account numbers because the only thing this accomplished was that I won't support the Rand Paul campaign.

Anti-Gun 'Grassroots' In Action (Again)

When the money from their sole funder dries up... so do they:
Loop-based KJD Strategies filed the lawsuit against Gun Violence Prevention PAC Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court, saying the political action committee hasn’t paid the firm the $26,800 it has owed since December 2014.
'GPAC' was funded by one person who dropped $80K into it in 3rd quarter '14 and a handful of others including 'Citizen Action' in 4th quarter'14.  Of that, about half went to pay two people who's job apparently was to write a few checks to candidates including a $26K one to the Brady campaign, a bunch of media sources, and then rip off others when the money ran out.  I wonder how many of those checks bounced?

This is their 'Grassroots'.

H/T to IL Gunlobby.

Update on funding

I'm a #WrongFan liking #Wrongfun @isabella324 @EW @monsterhunter45

The latest broadside in the Hugo Awards (THE SciFi writing award) debacle of the wrong type of fans gathering together to nominate selectees. Long story short, Larry Correia of MHI fame decided he was tired of only a select group of elites choosing who got Hugo awards so decided to start his own campaign.  This is the kind of response he's gotten from those he's dubbed SJW's.

For those who know Larry, the article is as accurate as the headline and is already being edited. The author's response on twitter AFTER the article was published:

Authorized Journalism in its highest form.

I got into 'hard' scifi back in my early 20's. I read all the 'professional' magazines and picked up all the 'quality' books.  I stopped because most of them bored the hell out of me especially the Hugo Award winner collections. Because of that experience, I didn't even bother attending the awards when I went to Worldcon in '12.  I knew that I not only wouldn't have read any of the works but likely wouldn't have heard about most of the authors.  Reading more on what's been going on, this statement from one of those who pretty much controls the awards explains it clearly:
#499 ::: Teresa Nielsen Hayden ::: (view all by) ::: March 29, 2015, 03:43 PM:
Why are people talking about what would happen if everyone who reads SF voted in the Hugos? IMO, it’s not a relevant question. The Hugos don’t belong to the set of all people who read the genre; they belong to the worldcon, and the people who attend and/or support it. The set of all people who read SF can start their own award.
If this were a debate on gun control, one would say the anti's were butthurt that a bunch of knuckle-dragging, cousin-humping rednecks dared opine on their consecrated echo chambers.  Larry (afaik) coined the terms 'WrongFan's' having 'WrongFun' to satirize the above attitude toward those SF fans who aren't part of the 'elite'.

Update:  EW has posted a 'correction' and an 'apology' but the article is still there. Amazing what the internet and the threat of lawyers can do.

Update II: Scalzi is butthurt:
