Before he passed away, my dad gave me his old Marlin 81 .22 rifle. Having sat on a rack for decades, it needed some maintenance and repair. The rifle was easy, some adjustments to the feeding mechanism, replacing of the rotted 1907 style sling, etc. The scope was a bit more of a challenge. An ancient Weaver B5 style. I found a service who replaced basically the entire insides and made it work like a charm. I got it zeroed better and more stable than any other rifle I own. Almost qualified Appleseed Marksman w/ it my first time through.
Over the last few years, however, my eyesight has gotten considerably worse. The tiny reticule makes it incredibly difficult to use and I love using this rifle. So w/ some reluctance, I decided to upgrade. Searching around for inexpensive .22 scopes, I chose a Barska .22 Plinker 3-9x32. The reviews were generally favorable, the price was what I was looking at, and the larger reticule would be easier on my eyes. It arrived a few days ago and today I did the swap.

Has now become this:
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get out to zero it.

The Chicago Riot Pics Not Being Shown...
So 'activists' shut down a political rally in Chicago in a fine performance of supporting civil rights and the US Constitution. While most of the lamestream media plays it down as 'conflicts' between protesters and supporters, it turned into nothing more than a riot, destroying not only Freedom of Speech, but thousands of dollars in damages to personal property as they rampaged through the streets smashing cars w/ political stickers on them.
Here are some of the 'other' pics and video from the streets.
Which candidate are they voting for?
From SCC:
Video taken of the 'peaceful' protesters:
With countless pre-printed signs, this was a well-funded and organized riot, just like in Ferguson and Baltimore. It wouldn't surprise me if the 'organizers' came out to be employees of MoveOn, Soros, SEIU or other far-left organizations.
Now, w/ Cruz et al using this debacle to denounce Trump instead of the protesters' violence, all that has occurred is that lots of fence-sitters and Cruz supporters are going over to support Captain Toupee. Was this the intentional or an un-intended side effect?
Tuesday is going to be interesting. There's only one candidate for ANY office (Dale Righter) that I'm positive about voting for.

Ancient Dread: The Slaver Battle at Sea
As the Virtuous Maiden
sailed out to find the slaver ship, the group spent the debating tactics. Frederick kept falling asleep and losing his
bell much to the amusement of Strongbow.
Malthus opened up a bit and it was discovered that he is a natural
wizard and that he can cast the spells Fly as the Eagle and Sphere of
Invisibility.
It was decided that the ship would come up alongside the
slaver, rake it with arrows before closing to allow Echo to steam clean their
uniforms, then engage with boarders. This worked well for
awhile. The Longbow and Xbow teams showered the deck, taking out most of the
slaver crew and several of their fighters.
Then the bad nasties hit. Two Shedim demons and a powerful
fire warlock appeared hitting our Corsair with a Cloud of Ash. While powerful, he wasn’t very bright. The damp rain caused the spell to only do
limited damage. Frederick engaged the Fire Warlock with several Lighting Bolts with
support by the Xbow men, eventually taking the Warlock out before he could do
much more than hurt a few of our hired fighters. Echo blasted the Shedim w/ a
Gust of Wind, forcing them to hold on for their damned lives and preventing
them from attacking. Seeing the demons incapacitated, the longbow team took out
one Shedim and severely hurt the second. We stormed aboard. Eddie and Klyn
waded into the fight. Klyn lost ANOTHER ax but picking up a dropped cutlass,
carried on. His goal to try and free the
slaves below deck. Eddie carved a path of bodies, seemingly unstoppable even in
the face of the Shedim demon. It eventually fell due to the combined efforts of
the crew and party.
Klyn charged past the enemy and below decks, running smack
into the witch, that monster known as Kralton, who had juiced himself up w/
numerous spells such as Armor of Ithan, Strength of Utgard Loki and Might of
the Palladium making him nearly unstoppable. Klyn fought valiantly but was
falling back to try and get help when he was cut down in mid-stride. Anguish
across his face as he fell to the deck. Eddie charged in heroically but was also
quickly felled by this juggernaut. Freddie’s last lightning bolt seemingly
bounced off while Roan’s psionic attack wounded him slightly before the giant wolfen
was flung into the sea like a rag doll.
Seeing his companions fall, Strongbow charged into the fray,
hoping to hold off the witch long enough for the Cleric to revive Eddie so the
three of them could have a hope of taking out their opponent with their
combined magical blades. The witch, however, was having none of that. His familiar, another Shedim, burst from the
water between the ships, pulling down the boarding planks and preventing Frederick
or more re-enforcements from getting across.
Echo flew into the air w/ Ackdor in order to rescue overboard
crewmembers, which included Alta, before they could become casualties of the
demon or the sea. As a last hope,
knowing he couldn’t take out the witch alone, Strongbow expended all his mental
abilities in a last ditch effort to hurt or kill this seemingly unstoppable
creature. The Dragons were with him and the witch fell. The remaining slaver
crew, disheartened from seeing their leaders deposed, quickly surrendered or
were dispatched after that.
Freddie, in a fit of vengeance, beheaded the witch, bringing
down the wrath of Apis. A search of the ship revealed much in the way of
riches. Gold, jewels, weapons, and the
ship itself. The (former) slaves are released and given care. We are now on our
way to the Far Pendeltor region of the Land of the South Winds.

Scallops & Fried Potatoes
I've had a taste for scallops lately so I went searching through the local grocery stores. Surprisingly enough, both the local mart and Wally World had them.
Then I looked up various pan frying recipes. Most were a lot more complicated than I felt like dealing w/. I settled on simple. Melted butter, salt, pepper, a splash of soy sauce over medium-low heat. I let them sit (sprinkling a little pepper on them) until they got a light golden color to them (about 8 min), poured out some of the excess, and turned them. The other side took about 5 min on the same heat.
As for a side, I couldn't decide. I needed something filling in case none of the spawnlings liked the scallops but wasn't sure what went well w/ it. I went classic fishing boat. A huge pan of fried potatoes. Standard except I went w/ butter instead of olive oil as a greaser.
The 'powers took a look at the scallops and got that questioning look on their faces, taking one under duress and command of their parentage. After one bite, however, they all rushed back for more of them.
Meal success.

A Family That Shoots Together....
So last weekend was FifthPower's 8th Bday (first seen here) so we of course had to celebrate. I took him out last summer to shoot a 10/22 but he had only shot a couple rounds from a handgun. Since one of his presents was a Red Ryder BB gun, we had to go out for some range time.
The entire family came w/.
First was his BB gun. Since it is considerable longer than he's used to and I didn't bring the table down, we stuck w/ some balloons and a tank, just for some general techniques.
Then some instruction on the KelTec P32.
The CinC wanted some practice w/ her Walther 9mm.
FourthPower Alpha w/ the KelTec
Fourth Power Bravo decided to up-gun to the Beretta 92S.
I got a little time in myself: (Note: I do have plugs in)
Group shot.
Family bonding. Children w/ handguns. Exploding heads of anti's. All good.
