Cook County gun ban poll

From the ISRA:

Larry Suffredin and his cohorts on the Cook County Board are up to their old tricks again.

In order to justify passage of gun control ordinances designed to close all gun shops and ban and confiscate most guns owned by citizens of the county, the Cook County Board is conducting a telephone poll where callers can vote for or against the gun control ordinances.

Like everything else in Cook County, this poll is probably rigged. So, it’s very important that you do the following:

1. Call 1-312 -603-6400 and select Option #1 when prompted. At the next prompt, select Option #1 again. Then, when prompted to vote on the gun control ordinance, press #2.

2. You should also forward this alert on to all your gun owning friends and have them vote too.

3. You should also post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards or blogs to which you belong.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF COOK COUNTY TO VOTE!

Let’s beat Suffredin at his own game! And, save your guns.

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 29-year-old man was killed late Thursday after being shot leaving a gang member's funeral in the Southwest Side's Gage Park neighborhood, police said.

One would think that the CPD would have an extra officer or two there since shootings at gang funerals are fairly common.

Oh, wait, they're all being used to guard Obama's house and offices instead.

Puppet Polls

Paul latest crowing is about a poll claiming that most Americans want "sensible gun laws" including licensing and bans.

This poll was done by Penn, Schoen & Berland. Looking into their history of polls, it turns out that they also claimed in 2004 that Chavez would lose by 20% in opposition to polls taken by five different polling groups. In fact, Chavez won by 20% and PSB released the polls before the end of the election in contradiction to Venezuelan law with the polls being taken by anti-Chavez activists. They also miscalled the Italian general election in 2006.

Sorry folks, when a conclusion report is filled with the talking points of the people that payed them (ie 'sensible gun laws' , 'reasonable restrictions', 'military-style', etc), and the questions were written to get a particular response, I'm going to call their results into question. Especially when non-affiliated polls show much less support for increased restrictions.

Holder and the DC gun ban

Just to add one more bit to how much the Anointed One really believes in the 2A, his choice for AG , Eric Holder, was a signee of an Amicus Brief supporting the upholding of the DC gun ban and tried to use 9/11 as a reason to enact more firearm restrictions .

Biden
Clinton (maybe)
Emanuel
Holder
Axelrod
Napolitano

Can we see a pattern boys and girls?

Some trailers for the new 'prequel' Star Trek movie have been released. Here's the Enterprise from TOS:

And here's the New Revised Standard Edition of the Vision of Roddenberry:

*Sigh*

Illinois Factoids 2007

according to the 2007 IL UCR.

The state actually had a pretty good year.

Illinois had a population of 12.83 million w/ a murder rate of 5.9/100K (752) in comparison to 6.2/100K last year.

Chicago had 22.1% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 58.9% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 15.64/100K. A slight drop from last year in both population and murders.

Cook County had 41.2% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 69.5% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 9.9/100K. It also had population and murder drops.

The Cook County murders in raw number/per capita decreased 9.7 and 9.2% respectively while arrest numbers and rates increased over 6.8% from '06 to '07. 2006 however, had an 18% drop.

If Chicago were to fall into Lake Michigan, the Illinois murder rate would drop to 3.09 .

Were the rest of Cook County to follow suit, the rate would drop to 3.03 .

So Chicago still accounts for 5x the murder rate of the rest of the state with it's "Model Gun Laws". Currently though, they are slated to break 500 murders this year, more than at any time in the last four years.

Ignorant or lying?

Delaware recently allowed hunting w/ .50 cal handguns.

In a fit of PSH or deliberate dishonesty, the article compared the .500 S&W Magnum cartridge, et al to the .50 BMG in range and power. Perhaps it was because they used the Joyce Foundation funded site ".50caliberterror" as their source of information. This was quoted and highlighted by the FSA's mouthpiece website the Gun Guys so I take that as that they support that little bit of disinformation.

The FSA's big gripe is "A .50-caliber handgun can easily puncture a police officer's vest."

So can most handgun cartridges over .38. But don't let facts get in the way of a good shorts staining rant.

Update: A response from the paper stated they're going to be publishing a 'clarification' w/i the next day or two. We'll see what they say.

Armed and Safe has more.

SS CPD

With Obama's 'Transition Headquarters' in Chicago, it's up to the already reduced Chicago Police Department to provide security of nearly 100 officers at Obama's offices and home.

Yep, nevermind that 15% spike in murders and overall 3% rise in violent crime across the city, they've got more important people to protect and serve.

Anyone want to lay odds that they're going to be armed w/ those S&W 'Patrol Rifles' the city just received?

H/T to War on Guns
.

What to do.

Obama is going to be president. Eric Holder is tapped to be his AG. Hillary Clinton may be Sec. of State. It seems the rest of the positions will also be filled by Chicago and Clinton era insiders and cronies.

What can we do?

Support your local FFL dealer, distributor, and gun shows.

Purchase a new firearm. Even if it's not something you would normally get, it can be used as an investement. "Pre-ban" classified firearm prices increased dramatically after the Clinton gun ban and one can expect the same when (not if) Obama decides he has enough political capital to push for his own.

Can't afford a new firearm? That's fine.

Today is National Ammo Day. I picked up a box of Remington 7.62x39 for myself, a box of .223 for my FIL , and a box of 9mm for my BIL's X-mas gifts. Well within my budget. Ammo purchases, however, do not need to be limited to just today.

Support the cause.

Join as many pro-rights organizations as you can, national, state, and local.

Don't like the NRA? Fine. There's the SAF, GOA, JPFO, and numerous others*.

Follow the traditional methods as well. Write your congress-critters, letters to the editor, attend local council meetings, etc. Make your voice heard. It does work.

PAY ATTENTION!!

Watch the news, check up on bills and legislation, read the websites and blogs. Your ignorance is their strength. At a talk during the 2008 NRA convention, nearly 1/3rd of the audience had never heard of the NOLA firearm confiscations. IL state senator Kotowski (Brady Endorsed BTW) attempted to sneak through a magazine ban by attaching it to a bill increasing penalties on child abuse. To quote Bryan Miller "This is how they roll".

*This does not include the anti-gun front group American Hunters and Shooters Assoc. though. Just send your money straight to the Brady Campaign instead.

Winnetka repeals handgun ban

With the Brady Campaign proclaiming that gun control is going to sweep the nation, Winnetka, IL must not have been paying attention to the election results as they unanimously struck down their Brady supported handgun ban.

Thanks to reader Ambiguous ambiguae for the heads up.

Il Rep Kirk introduces new AWB

Via Alphecca.

Kirk introduced another semi-auto ban in June. Right out of a Brady press release (he was endorsed by them actually), he blames the US for the violence in Mexico and that they're the weapon of choice for gangs.

Idiot.

NJ .50 cal ban update

A2116, the latest incarnation of a .50 cal ban got clarified on Oct 27th with wording about what is and isn't a muzzleloader.

According to the state web site, there was another amendment passed yesterday but no details on it that I have discovered as of yet.

Update:

The passed amendments basically state that any muzzleloaders and black-powder firearms aren't included in the ban. Here's the bill in its current configuration.

My sooper sekrit sources say it could be taken up as soon as December.

Quote of the Day

"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to
Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders

in giving Americans small doses of socialism
until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."

- Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

Stupid

Woman throws over $400K into a scam including her husbands retirement fund.

Sorry, but when the authorities, bank officials and your family are all telling you you're being scammed and you think personal letters from President Bush are legitimate, you're nothing but a greedy idiot and you deserve what you get.

UAW doesn't get it.

The companies they're working for are failing due to bad business decisions, a poor economy, and outrageous employment costs so they decide that keeping costs high is what is in the workers' best interests.

Yet it won't be the Union Bosses who lose their jobs when the plants shut down or move to Bangladesh.

Fools.
