It's like a bad TV show script.

Tapes of the Burris/Blago scandal have been released and, unsurprisingly, it digs Burris into a deeper hole regarding his purchased appointment to the US Senate.

What's really bad is the way these two talk. It's literally like the script off of a crappy crime show where the 'bad guys' are trying to be subtle and skirt around directly saying they want bribes:

"And therefore I can go off to, you know, wherever and do all these great things," Burris adds. He says that he has "been trying to figure out what the heck, you know, I can do."

"We've had a number of conversations about, you know, anything you might be able to do," Robert Blagojevich says a moment later.

They're both a couple of morons, you know.

Brady Bunch book out in June

Here's the prolouge...

Sorry for the dual post, been a while. Let me know what you favorite quote is.

Tacticool goes mainstream.

Watching "Deadliest Warrior" on Spike, I noticed a new brand of commercials. These are from a company called "OpsGear" marketing the usual array of stuff. Uniforms, gear, boots, t-shirts, etc.

What that means is that these kind of products are becoming so popular, companies can afford to market them on TV instead of just the usual dead-tree catalogs and online ads.

Cool.

Unorganized Militia Gear

Unique

You'll probably see a Prius w/ a peace symbol. You might see one w/ an American flag. How many will you see w/ Peace Through Superior Firepower, UMPC, NRA Life Member, and Illinois State Rifle Assoc. decals?

It definitely helps ID'ing it when on campus.

More Pizza = More Crime

Really.

Politician Blames Neighborhood Crime on Pizza Sales

And these people are elected.

AHSA 2.0: A New Beginning?

Seems the AHSA is trying to revamp its image big-time:

From Ray Schoenke on the AHSA Facebook Page):

"Harman - AHSA will be updating it's website very soon, and there will be measurable changes. Much of the previous language was consultant based. Those language, and firearm consultants are no longer with us."
Seems all the work put into showing the true face of their 'consultants' (ie board members like John Rosenthal et al) were successful. Now we get to have fun seeing what direction they take w/ it.

If they read this, I'll be frank. It will take a lot of work from them to even make me trust them a hair. It wasn't that long ago that Ray Schoenke stated that he opposed Assault Weapons before condemning Holder for supporting a new AWB. Was that the statement of a 'consultant' or was it his belief? It wasn't that long ago that they endorsed Obama, a politician w/ a long history of anti-gun legislation and statements under his belt yet now they oppose the issues that he has held since the beginning.

OK Ray/AHSA. I'm a fairly easy-going person. Willing to live and let live for the most part. What are you going to do, actions wise not words (we all know what those are worth) to convince me you're sincere?

Poachers and Rednecks and Arsonists! Oh My!

45Superman points to a true piece of shorts filling goodness on that bastion of intelligence, the Daily Koz.

Did you know that allowing Concealed Carry in Nat'l Parks will allow drunken rednecks to shoot up their neighbors, decimate wildlife, and start wildfires without repercussion? Really.

I love how disjointed these nutballs get.

Focus on Illinois

According to a legislative update by the Illinois Council against Handgun Ownership, a primary Joyce Foundation puppet organization, they and the Brady Campaign are planning on focusing on Illinois during the up and coming legislative and election seasons. They realize they've lost the fight nationally and are now fighting desperately to keep whatever ground they can in states they feel are susceptible to their nonsense( ie Illinois via Chicago).

Their plan is to take Joyce Foundation money (the 'strong organization' they mention) and use Chicago as a bulwark to try and move out into the suburbs one legislator at a time.

As Todd Vandermyde so distinctly put it. "Game On"

Unorganized Militia Gear

Maybe the Blogosphere should be regulated..

For accuracy. Huffpo would then be bereft of the majority of its publishers including this nitwit. While whining about the Credit Card/Concealed Carry in Parks bill, he blathers:
At a time when gun violence kills more Americans than ever before,
Uh, no. Perhaps you might want to look at the FBI numbers from the late 80's and early 90's. You know, the heydey of gun control activism. It's about 2/3rds what it was then.

He also relates us with this magical tale:
No state is considering legislation to make it harder to buy a gun.
Really Scott? I can find about a dozen bills in Illinois alone that were introduced at the start of the legislative season. Never mind NY, CA, or the numerous other states high on the Brady list.

Really man. If you're going to open your pie hole, do some basic f*cking research before you spew your nonsense.

Still a Sad Clown

Our buddy Josh is really upset over the House and the Senate passing the Credit Card/Park Carry bill:

This dangerous provision will put park park rangers, visitors, and wildlife at extreme risk. Don't believe me? Listen to the people who actually work every day to protect our nation's parks and their visitors.

Josh, you said the same crap when CCW was sweeping the nation. Police officers have not died by the droves by license holders. Streets are not running red with blood.

As a matter of fact, you've been spouting the same thing about Assault Weapons, the DC Handgun ban, plastic guns, 'cop killer' bullets, caseless ammo, and a litany of others for years and it still hasn't happened with any of them.

No wonder nobody listens to you anymore.

Quote(s) of the day

Kaveman on Huffpo:

Go out into the street and ask 100 people if they know what the NRA is.

Now ask those same 100 people if they know what the Brady Campaign is.
Reply by MolonLabe:
Of COURSE they know what the Brady Campaign is......

Good Sheepdogs

Much has been made over the selection of speakers at the 2009 NRA convention. Basically it boils down to "What was the NRA thinking?". I mean come on. Mitt "The Sh*t" Romney. John "AGS" McCain. Michael "my balls aren't made of" Steele? These are some of the biggest RINO's the GOP has to offer and are no friends to gun owners, that's for sure. I certainly didn't want to waste several hours of my life listening to them try and kiss my ass because they realized they f*cked up and that getting the support of 4 million + people is a good political move.

Because that's why they were there and that's why the NRA invited them.

Think about it. These guys are part of a party that is in worse shape than it has been for decades with no sign of it improving any time soon. They need to do everything they can to get back to the base that they've abandoned since they got cocky after getting into power and that means courting this huge base of pro-gun leaning voters.

That also means that they need us. We don't need them. There are lots of other politicians who support firearm rights that we can put in their place. "Daschle" became a verb because he promised to support gun owners then didn't.

But we're good sheepdogs. It's our job to bring them all back into the fold when they've strayed to far from the flock. It's up to them to bleat the message that keeps them in the fold now that they've realized who's in charge. Otherwise they may find themselves in an uncomfortable situation again.

Now that doesn't mean we throw them back out to the wolves if they get out of line. Good sheepdogs don't do that. But we wouldn't be adverse to pushing them into a more visible location when the shepherd gets lonely and comes looking for some lovin'.

Blogger Bash 2009: My Thoughts

Cost of gas to drive to and from Phoenix: $140
Amount it took to replace shoes that melted in 105 deg weather : $25

The look on Paul Helmke and Josh Sugarmann's faces seeing tens of thousands of gun owners give them the proverbial middle finger: Priceless

Even though I spent over 48 hours on the road and am completely exhausted, the two days I got to spend there were totally worth it. Seeing Sebastian, Bitter, Kevin Baker, Mike W. , US Citizen, The Ten Ring folks, etc. again was great along with meeting for the first time Breda, Alan , Sandcastle Scrolls, Dustin, Cowboy Blob, ExUrban League, Eric Shelton, Primeval Papa, Daniel Pehrson and many others. I know I've forgotten a bunch of names so please forgive me if I left you out.

The convention itself seemed a bit more chaotic than last year but the centralized location and practically ALL functions w/i walking distance made up for that. Had I known how close everything was in comparison to last year, I would have just flown.

The Blogger Bash also showed some improvements with the addition of several topical speakers like Cam Edwards on Podcasting/NRANews and Darren LaSorte on Hunting issues. Both were very informative and well attended. I think the rule for drawings next year should be if you're not in attendence at the drawing, another name is drawn.

It definitely had more of a professional feel to it as the importance of "Alternative Media" is being recognized by not only the NRA and state affiliates, but also by anti-gunners like our buddy Josh Sugarmann. I spoke at length to numerous local organization leaders, NRA Gen Ops and ILA media reps, lobbyists, state reps, and dealers all wanting to increase their relationships with us in information dissemination, advocacy, advertising and a multitude of other areas. This is a good thing for all involved.

For my side, this was no NRA lovefest. I specifically went with the intention of letting them know my and other Illinois firearm owners standing on the Concealed Carry issue. I spent several hours going head to head with them over it. I listened to their reasons and I understand why they won't go all out for it and they know that I, and many other IL residents, are going to keep to our guns to get it passed any way we can no matter the stance they take. As for the political speeches, I didn't bother. With my limited time, I didn't want to waste it listening to a bunch of RINO's tell me how much they support the 2A and then go and vote for whatever bill they think they can get away with.

Some things I learned:

Leaving soda cans in a locked car in 105 degree weather is bad.
Bacon-wrapped shrimp w/ BBQ sauce is good.
19 hrs of driving sucks.
Media credentials can open doors and also get you threatened.

Thanks to Bitter for once again putting this together and all the attendees who braved the unnatural heat to show thier support. Also thanks to all the NRA reps and staff including Rachel Parsons, Glen Caroline, Cam Edwards, Scott Christman, Lars Dalseide, Danielle Sturgis, Brent Gardner, Andrew Dysart, Alexa Fritts, Vickie Cieplak and all the ladies running the Press Office table.

New Unorganized Militia Patches

Debuted at the NRA 2009 Convention. The first is an upgrade from the UM Infantry and UM Marksman patches. Now available is the UM Sniper:

Also new, with thanks to Kent McManigal, is the Time's Up patch based on the flag of his design.

As always, patches are $5 ea for 1 or 2, $4 ea for 3 or more in any combination. Instructions for ordering can be found here.

Blogger Bash 2009 Day 3: My Finale

Scheduling conflicts are causing me to leave today instead of staying for the rest of the events. So here's my final post from the convention. I'll have a roundup and final thoughts/thanks in a few days after I've recovered from the drive home.

This morning attended a 2ABB discussion w/ NRA-ILA National Hunting Policy Manager Darren LaSorte.

Discussion involved how the NRA is attempting to counter the anti-hunting activities of the HSUS and their (NRA's) focus in increasing the number of hunters across the nation. He will be getting me some information regarding my question on centerfire hunting restrictions in Illinois.

The DOOT drawing went well. The new patches were well received. Many stickers were handed out.

Noticed numerous reenactors present. Don't know why.

Headed down to the floor for a final walk through.

Filled out a survey for Marlin Firearms, said goodbye to Cam Edwards, and entered a couple of drawings for stuff. Not like I'll win.

Headed back up to the Press Room to give my final farewells to the NRA folks there. Handed out a few copies of the "Art of War" to those who didn't have them as well as a few UMPC patches. Rachel apparently didn't realize I was the one who sent a bunch last year after Ashley Varner told me she had never read it. Obviously I needed to fix that and will continue to do so.

That's all for now. Posting will be light the next few days.

Blogger Bash 2009 Day 2B: Floor Show

Lunch at Hooters with SandCastle Scrolls and Mike from Another Gun Blog.

Then back to the convention hall for the floor show. Aerial view thanks to the folks at FNH.

Marlin Firearms displayed their 981T and 915Y bolt action .22's. I have a soft spot for them since my first firearm was my dad's Model 81. The 981T is it's modern equivalent. The 915Y is a youth gun that I will be picking up for my kids in a few years.

Finally got to meet Tom King, President of NYSRPA in front of the 50 Caliber Shooters Assoc. booth.

Visits to the Wolf and Glaser booths were profitable in swag and possible advertising deals in the future. Had a company called Ogre Mfg. clean my carry piece to demonstrate their cleaner. They gave a sample so I'll play more w/ it and see how well it works. I also met Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation where I had a few books autographed.

Saw the Gunnie signing autographs for Team Glock (which I wasn't going to wait in line for today, maybe tomorrow)

Then back up to the Press Room for a talk on the future of NRAnews w/ Cam Edwards.

Not sure if I'll make the get together tonight w/ Michael Bane. More tomorrow.

Blogger Bash 2009 Day 2A: Grassroots Workshop

After a restful night's sleep I got up this morning to attend the Grassroots workshop. Dick Heller was introduced by Glen Caroline.

A good speech. His main talking point was that the anti's and their gov't sycophants try to push "Gov't by whim" using examples of the denied handgun permit because it was green, denials for names, etc. I also got to meet NRA President John Sigler:

Exec VP: Wayne LaPierre:

And NRA-ILA Exec. Director Chris Cox:

Seated at my table was ISRA President Richard Pearson:

He pulled me aside to discuss some initiatives that the ISRA is working on and future cooperation w/ Illinois bloggers in order to spread the word. Some interesting factoids he told me about:

Jessie Jackson, when he was arrested at Chuck's Gun Shop, had nearly $26,000 in cash on him. I'm sure it was all obtained legally and being used for moral purposes.

The ISRA spend $309K on legislative activities in 2008.

I also spoke at length w/ Glen Caroline and Andrew Dysart on Blogger relations and coordinating activities in Illinois. Glen stated that he feels that the NRA working w/ bloggers has definitely been advantageous in getting out the message and hopes to continue and expand the relationship.

After I get some food, I'm going to hit the floor assuming I can beat my way through the crowds.

Blogger Bash 2009 Day 1:Arrival

After nearly 14 hours on the road, I finally arrived in Phoenix. After checking in and running into Traction Control in the lobby, I headed over to the convention center.

There, Rachel Parson of NRA-ILA checked me in and I conversed w/ other bloggers from around the U.S.

Following the Check in, we wandered over to Chase Field for a get together at "Friday's Front Row" Bar & Grill.

Present were Dick Heller and Robert Levy of DC v Heller fame.

I'm tired. Going to bed. More here and here.

Repressing the Oppressed.

What is the common reaction to uncontrolled violence and an incompetent, corrupt gov't?

Taking matters into your own hands.

What is the reaction to this by said incompetent, corrupt gov't?

Punish the desperate people who had no choice but to resort to said actions.

TIJUANA, Mexico
— Police found the bullet-riddled body of a man in this Mexican border city Tuesday alongside a sign accusing him of being a thief. It was the second such killing this month

And we all know the Mexican authorities will spend much more to find and punish these 'vigilantes' than they will the cartels that line the pockets of said authorities.

'High Risk' Sales

At gun shows? Nope.

Private transactions? No, not that either.

What are we talking about then?

Sales to police departments direct from the manufacturer.

No. I'm not kidding. That was the claim made by the now dismissed lawsuit against Glock.

The suit said Glock Inc., maker of the 9mm pistol allegedly used to shoot Ileto, sold many guns to police that were unsafe to civilians and ignored government warnings about high-risk distribution channels - in this case, from a police department in Washington state through several owners to an unlicensed trader, who sold it to Furrow.

Of course there is no surprise that the Brady Campaign and the Joyce Foundation fully endorses this mentality:

However, advocates with the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence in Washington, D.C., say courts are increasingly interested in holding gun sellers accountable.

"Civil suits like this are a very important supplement to our laws because they give gun sellers a very important financial incentive to act responsibly," said Dennis Henigan, who directs the center's legal action project....

Attorney Juliet Leftwich of Legal Community Against Violence, a San Francisco gun-control organization that filed arguments in the case, said it was unfair to dismiss the case based on "blatant special-interest legislation ... protection that no other industry gets."

In this case I fully agree with them. We need to close the 'Police Gun Loophole' and stop selling firearms to police departments.

Unpossible...

Targeting repeat and violent offenders reduces crime.

Nationwide, the Marshals helped take 109,000 violent fugitives off the street last year and cleared more than 760,000 felony warrants in federal, state and local cases in the last decade, according to federal crime statistics compiled by the U.S. Marshals Service. And since 2003, the Marshals and police in the Atlanta area alone have cut the murder rate by 22 percent and overall violent crime by more than one-third.

Ergas said that the "vast majority" of suspects his unit chases are wanted for a violent crime. "More than 85 [percent to] 95 percent of the cases," he said. "And again, about 70 [percent to] 80 percent repeat violent offenders. So you go out with that mind-set."

What an amazing concept. Who woulda thunk it?

Sunday, May 10, 2009

The Full Victim Package

The Brady Campaign, not intent on eliminating the ability to actively defend yourself with a firearm, also wants to prevent any form of passive defense by preventing people from owning bullet or stab resistant vests.
"There are no background checks, no federal regulations unless you are a violent offender—and even then you can buy them at gun shows or online," says Daniel Vice, senior attorney at the Brady Center To Prevent Gun Violence.

Yep, that damn 'body armor loophole'.

Remember the Brady mantra:
"Give them what they want and they won't hurt you"

And to show the limited mentality of anti-gun legislators?

"Why do you need it if you're not going to commit a crime?" asks New York State Assemblyman David Koon,"

Hear that Sebastian PGP? It's not that you've had your life threatened by drug dealers and psychopaths, you just want to commit crimes.

Where have I heard similar statements like that recently?

Unorganized Militia Gear

Patience and Preemption

"Just wait.

Be patient.

Preemption will come.

All you have to do is wait for the Chicago Handgun case to get to the Supreme Court, hope for a win, wait for legislation to pass, then hope that the resulting litigation finishes and goes in your favor.

It shouldn't be long.

Just be patient. "

OK. I'll be patient. I'll wait the additional 10-20 years that this will take beyond the nearly 20 years we've already been bashing our heads against the wall in futility.

As soon as those recommending that while living in "Shall Issue" RTC states disarm in a show of solidarity until Illinois finally passes preemption.

Will you?

Friday, May 8, 2009

Fu@k Chicago

In Illinois, a bill pre-empting the laws of local areas needs a 3/5ths majority(71/35) to pass. By that rule, a pre-emptive "shall issue" CCW law is, in effect, impossible due to Chicago and the collar counties.

A "Home Rule" bill, however, only requires a 2/3rds (60/30)majority to pass. Something that, with 90 counties signing the Pro-2A Resolution and 13 counties supporting CCW, there was a possibility of getting.

Not now.

The NRA took a position of 'Neutrality' on HB2257, the Home Rule Bill, effectively killing in, in lieu of the Pre-emption bill, which has no chance. In reality, HB2257 was actually less restrictive than the others.

Their plan is to wait for a court victory in the Chicago handgun case and then push more litigation. Preemption is the issue, not Concealed Carry. They're perfectly willing to wait another 10-20 years.

I'm not.

SIH Sebastian brings up the example of PA passing it while allowing Philly to be exempt. Fair enough. However, it got passed and has been improved over the years. They've had it for 20 years while Illinois still has none whatsoever. We will continue to have none unless Chicago were to fall off into Lake Michigan.

The NRA-ILA needs to hear from us about this. Call, E-mails, letters.

Kurt and David have more.

O-Day + 107: A Plethora O' Broken Promises

He's a politician. Did anyone expect any different?

His current page looks like this.

2)Obama promised to support needle exchanges to reduce AIDS.

Today:

Obama Budget Bans Federal Funding For Needle Exchange, Breaking Campaign Pledge

The current page looks like this.

From the same page, Obama promised to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell".

Today the page includes weasel words: "He supports repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security," leading to his inaction on this:

Obama To Fire His First Gay Arabic Linguist

You know, one of those 'language experts' that costs millions of dollars to replace.

There's your Hope and Change in a nutshell.

Paul Helmke is 'Disappointed'..

One would think he'ld be used to it by now.

And then there were 90.

90 out of 102 counties in Illinois have passed the 2A Resolution.

That's lots of green.

The symbolism is simply astounding, watch it closely.

As a new member of the "domestic extremist" club, I thought it appropriate to kick off my own initiation with a song.

I hope this serves as a warning for both dominant political parties; for both mascots are either a game animal or a slave mule.

I will only respect you to the degree that you fill up my plate, for I must feed as well. Freedom is hungry, and waiting in line while clutching a coupon is not an option.

Here's the translation if you desire.

But even in the original, if it dosen't make you shake your ass a little bit in your chair, I'd begin to wonder if you shake your ass at all, for any reason.

Turn up the volume like you mean it.

You're Extremist, I'm Extremist, We're all Extremist Here..

We're in baby!!! I am officially a domestic extremist under multiple Gov't definitions.

Knowing is half the battle

I haven't done enough background on Gov. Rendell to comfortably say whether or not he's blatantly lying or just plain ignorant.

But this is what the enemy looks and sounds like.

Breaking News!!!

Apparently there’s an ammo shortage.

Went to the local sporting goods store today just on a whim to see what ammo was available and as I walked through the door I was greeted with “You looking for ammo?”

I replied that indeed I was. They said they just got some in today so I started to browse.

.308 going for $187 for a 250 round battle pack.
.223 going for $7 for a box of 20
9mm going for $18 for a box of 50.
.45? …gone
7.62X39? …gone
.22LR?……………………GONE, and they have been out of .22LR for 4 weeks!

The one silver lining was that I bought 250 12 gauge shells for only $60, which is pretty good. Considering my shotgun is primarily for home defense and that I have an ample supply of 00-buck already, I consider it money well spent.

I understand the shortage thingie, I understand people without a good stock pile are willing to pay some outrageous prices right now, but I can’t seem to wrap my brain around a sporting goods store running out of .22LR a month ago with no restock yet.

Production estimates I’ve seen are between 2-3 billion rounds annually.

I’m guessing that as prices rose for center-fire calibers, more and more people are sitting on the cache they have and started dusting off the .22’s to take to the range. That’s certainly been my plan for a while now. I guess I’m not the only one. Anyways, I’m on a mission now. I only got about 2000 rounds of .22 right now so I’m gonna buy every brick I can find.

It’s a little unsettling coming to grips with the fact that my ammo supply is now worth more than my 401k.

hopeychange

***UPDATE***

Took the long way home today to check some other ammo sources. The first was the local rip-off pawn shop; not exactly my first choice. But they had a sandwich board out front declaring ".22 ammo just in," so I swerved across 3 lanes of traffic and got out my wallet.

$30 a brick was the cheapest. He claimed it cost him $26 to get it into the store.
We talked for a few minutes and he gave me the usual spiel about it's gonna be $50 per brick within a few months, so I should buy now. I decided to go across the street and check out Wal-mart to compare.

Wal-mart had a grand total of 6 50 round boxes for $3.17 apiece, or the equivalent of $31.70 per brick.

No 9mm, no .45, no 30.06, no .223. no 7.62x39, no .308. They had 4 boxes of .270, 6 boxes of 300 magnums, some 45-70 government and a case and a half of 12 gauge bird shot for about what I paid for the shotgun shells I bought yesterday.

The pawn shop now has better prices than Wal-mart?!?

Don't know about you, but I'm keeping an eye out for flesh eating zombies; things just ain't right.

Is Pew Research lying too?

Paul Helmke threw a fit when Gallup released a poll showing decreased support for 'gun control' earlier last month. He felt Gallup should 'replicate' results shown by polls designed by anti-gun groups like his similar to the one that claimed that '70% of NRA members support closing the 'gun-show loophole' even though no-one has yet to find a single NRA member who'ld been questioned.

Never mind the fact that that bastion of NRA activity, CNN, had similar results on their public opinion poll, now Pew Research has gotten into the act w/ current information.

Get ready to call your dry-cleaners Paul, you're going to need them. Pew had the SAME RESULTS as Gallup and CNN!

For the first time in a Pew Research survey, nearly as many people believe it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns (45%) than to control gun ownership (49%). As recently as a year ago, 58% said it was more important to control gun ownership while 37% said it was more important to protect the right to own guns.

Are they 'irresponsible' too Paul? Is this not 'reflective'? You wanted 'current' polls done and here they are. I hope you like the taste.

-Kaveman

O-Day + 102: Down the Memory Hole..

Kaveman notes that the "Crime" issue from Whitehouse.gov seems to have disappeared. You know, the section stating support for a renewed AWB. Now the only thing showing is a "Sportsmen" section w/ no mention of firearms.

Can anyone else find it?

Where are they now?

Armed and Safe notes that Paul Helmke continues to use the "Arsenal" canard . So what is an "Arsenal"? All we have to do is look at the Brady II to find out how 'they' define it:

20 firearms w/ 'firearms' being defined as whole guns or component parts or
1000 rounds of Ammunition. Less than two bricks of .22.

So what idiots would support something like and where are they now? I decided to take a look.

Gun Nut Currency*

Kent McManigal of "Kent for Liberty" has designed a beautiful silver coin he's working on having minted. He's currently taking reservations with the final cost when produced being $20 ea. I've got mine ordered.

Fuzzy Math?

Although the stats fluctuate depending on the source, many coalesce around the numbers of 80 million gun owners in the USA holding a total of 280 million firearms. With 4-5 million additional new firearms sold each year in America, by the time Obama completes his first term, we will, given the latest trends, have one firearm in the country for every man, woman and child(300 million total population).

Hmmm…

The 80/280 million figure seems like a decent ratio, and I am counting these as legally held guns by non-prohibited persons.

280/80 = 3.5

That makes sense.

Casual gun owner #1 owns one rim-fire rifle, one center-fire rifle and one shotgun.

Casual gun owner #2 owns one rim-fire rifle, one center-fire rifle, one shotgun AND one handgun.

2 people owning a total of 7 guns works out to 3.5 guns/person average.

So what happens when you consider the collectors? The enthusiasts? The gunnuts? What happens when you consider us?

Never met any of the bloggers I follow, but I’ve managed to gather that they ALL have more firearms than the “casual gun owner.”

Let’s do some math.

Let’s say that 10% of legal gun owners have 10 firearms. Sorry to insult ya’ll but I’m intentionally trying to low-ball this to make a point.

80,000,000 X 0.1 = 8,000,000 This means that 72,000,000 have the remaining 200,000,000 guns or 2.8 guns per person. Still well within the realm of reasonableness.

The problem I have is that my personal experience with people I have met is that 75% of them have 5 or more firearms. Again a low-ball figure. If this is representative of the general population, the math gets kinda interesting.

60,000,000 X 5 = 300,000,000.

If 60,000,000 people hold 300,000,000 firearms then that dictates that the remaining 20,000,000 gun owners posses not only zero guns, but a negative 20,000,000 guns. There’s a stat that would give Helmke full wood.

No doubt that there are many gun owners who own but a single gun, but is this the norm?

Let’s assume that 90% of gun owners only own a single gun.

0.9 X 80,000,000 = 72,000,000.

Means that 8,000,000 people hold 208,000,000 guns or 26 guns per person. Over here on the west coast (minus the People’s Republic of Kalifornia) where we have constant contact with hostile Indians, that sounds about right.

Please don’t move here, they will rape your women and burn your village.

Josh Sugarmann is a Sad Clown

He's upset that the new administration hasn't followed through on their promises to ban guns and instead have recognized the political reality that doing so would hand Congress back to the Republicans on a silver platter. He wants O to use his executive powers and bypass the legislature since there's virtually no chance of getting anything passed there currently.

Two really funny bits though. Apparently the BATFE headquarters is an "NRA beach-head".

Yes. He really said that. I had to read it two or three times to make sure I wasn't just seeing things.

If that doesn't tell you how disjointed Josh is, nothing will.

The second is him quoting Jimmeh Cahtah's rant in the NYT's against the hundreds of thousands of us who, according to Carter, want to go out and shoot police because the mind control chips in our "Assault Weapons" have taken over.

What's funny and ironic is the part of the op-ed that Josh DIDN'T use:
"I have used weapons since I was big enough to carry one, and now own two handguns, four shotguns and three rifles, two with scopes."

Why wouldn't he mention that? Might it be because not only does Josh advocate banning Jimmy's two handguns but also advocates banning those "two (rifles) with scopes" as "intermediate sniper rifles"?

So basically we have a deliberately dishonest anti-gunner citing a clueless Fudd gun owner.

Update: Of course Paul has to get into the act to say how sad he is as well.

Ow. It hurts.

I normally avoid discussion on religion. It's just safer that way. But when I came across this comment, made in all seriousness, I just have to say something:
the words Malakoi and Arsenokoitai don't exist in the verses you gave in any english translation of the Bible. "

We are doomed as a species.

U.S. Regulars

While digging around doing some research, I came upon a site called "U.S. Regulars". It's a collection of US military manuals from the 19th century including Scott and Casey.

The intertubes are a wonderful place.

To Park and Valet in Chicago

Chicago police officers in a special detail unit called "The Wolf Pack" are supposed to serve and protect by patrolling high crime areas. But CBS 2 Investigator Pam Zekman found them helping people with clout and connections get prime parking spots at special events. For at least part of their day, these officers serve and park.

Guess it's more lucrative than actually doing what they're paid for. Sounds like another 'special unit' that needs to be disbanded.

Misplaced Priorities

What do you do when you're a politician representing a crime-ridden district? Why, harass successful businesses that hire felons in order to try and improve their neighborhood of course. At least that's the way it's done in good 'ol Chi-town.
A Chicago alderman says he doesn't mind that a businessman plans to open a hot dog stand in his ward and hire former convicts to work there, but he does object to the stand's crime-linked theme.

Fioretti also objected to several slogans, including: "Food so good, it's criminal," and "Home of the misdemeanor wiener."

I'm sure forcing a name change will have a dramatic effect on crime.

O-Day + 92: G.I.V.E me a break

In the tradition of his elder Clinton, Obama shows why he really released the 'torture' reports. So he could sign his "Obama Youth" act w/o public opposition while his sycophants in the media were distracting us.

So, in contradiction to some of the more extreme claims, this bill does NOT prevent opposition to it. What it states is that political and political activist organizations are not eligible. But how far does that go in degrees of separation? Obviously you can't volunteer for the NRA-ILA or PVF but can you be a volunteer at the NRA's National Firearms Museum, Whittington Center, or one of the many training programs that they offer for hunting, youth, and police? Can my kids be Eddie Eagles 'assistants'?

Columbia Conservative Examiner has more on this here and here.

Anti gun forum in Wheaton, IL

The 'League of Women Voters', a group that advocates to 'stop the proliferation of private handgun ownership' ran another one of those 'balanced' forums where pro-gunners outnumbered the anti's 10:1 but no response was allowed. It was of course sponsored by the ICPHV and LCAV, both Joyce Foundation puppets.

Videos were taken and are available here.

The usual debunked anti-gun meme's are presented including a claim that it is easier to buy a gun than get a library card. Uh huh. Sure.

They REALLY don't like having their talking points questioned. Audience members where told there would be a Q&A session after the speeches. Two pre-selected questions were the only ones taken and answered.

"This is a forum, not a place for debate" stated the 'moderator'.

They need the discussion to be one-sided.

AA Milne was a genius

I’ve been reading “Days of our Trailers” for a while now, as well as a few other lesser known sites, and have come to the conclusion that it is a gun blog. Having said that, I wish to expand on something I touched on here. Please take a moment to read it if you wish the following to make sense.

It’s very important to recognize who it is you’re dealing with, not only in the 2A arena, but life in general.

Virtually every person on G.O.D.’s green earth can be roughly described as a Winnie the Pooh character. Think about it.

Pooh: Essentially a Buddhist who is both remarkably complex yet incredibly simple at the same time. No worries, only thoughtful reflection to the current circumstances. Driven by base instincts with a moral code.

Rabbit: The self proclaimed moral authority who is flabbergasted that more people don’t hang on his every word.

Eoyre: COMPLAINS ABOUT EVERYTHING! Not happy unless he and everyone around him is miserable.

Piglet: Scared of not only his own shadow but the unknown boogie-men his shadow is obviously colluding with.

Tigger: Totally care-free just wanna have fun prankster. Virtually everything he says is total bullshit but he means well and doesn’t care if he means well or is just out for a laugh.

Owl: Thinks he knows everything but in reality, is quite uninformed about the nature of things.

Gopher: Cares only about his work and the rest of the world can burn as long as it doesn’t collapse one of his tunnels.

Kanga: The epitome of a mother figure who wants nothing more that to have everyone be happy and content.

Roo: The over-confident youngster who compensates for lack of life experience with enthusiastic vigor.

Christopher Robin: The human element inside the Hundred Acre Wood. Human interaction with the natural world. You never see his parents, these are the eyes of the youth. He contains a piece of them all. He is the aggregate.

AA Milne was a true genius; identify those you engage and you’re half-way there to victory.

Their Bread and Butter

That would be blatant dishonesty and the VPC. We all know it's nothing new from an organization that admits to deception in order to push their agenda of civilian disarmament, but let's keep it in the spotlight, especially when they blatantly lie to the legislators.

In Tom Diaz's testimony to Congress in the Money, Guns, and Drugs Hearing, he claims:

The U.S. gun industry has been sagging for decades. Although the industry enjoys brief periods of resurgence, the long-term trend for civilian gun manufacturers continues to be steady decline as fewer Americans choose to own guns and gun ownership becomes more concentrated.
Where he gets the 'sagging for decades' is curious as the 'brief periods of resurgence' tend to last just as long as the 'sags'. As has been shown previously, the average over the last 20 years shows a steady supply of handguns and shotguns with an increase in rifles. That's just new manufacture without including the firearms resold in the secondary market.

Most likely it was based off of selectively chosen years to 'prove' his point, just like they did w/ the numbers of firearm owners. While the percentage of the populace that admits to owning firearms has dropped according to some polls, the raw numbers of both households and individuals have either remained the same or increased.

So, as usual, the gun controllers intentionally lie and distort the facts. I kind of hope they keep doing it (like they have any other option if they want to get their way) as people are seeing through their nonsense and they keep losing the public's support.

The new media

I gotta admit that I'm not much of a country music fan,(gotta be in the right mood, more of a old rock type) but when somone goes and makes a documentary and puts some hard drums behind it, it's hard not to respect it.

For those who don't already know, I live in a town of approx. 300 people. We got one general store, one church, one school and one post office. We got no police department, no fire department and no medical facilities.

Ooh, and I estimate that we got 3 times as many firearms as people in town(my G.O.D. that's a conservative estimate). Needlessless to say, our crime is almost non-existent. Got a few meth heads(4 to be exact, used to have 6 but 2 moved away due to, uh...social pressure) who everybody knows and they don't dare break into anybody's home. Out-buildings are another matter, but even the meth heads aren't stupid enough to breach any castles.

Having said that, my dog will bark at any noise; I bring other skills to the table.

Josh's Template for Media Bias

Josh conveniently provides the template that "Authorized Journalists" seem to use to manipulate the public on firearms.

While he may think he's being cute, all he's really doing is re-enforcing our point that he and his ilk need to distort the facts in order to push their agenda.

Thanks Josh, you make our job easier.

Not an original idea.

A bunch of people are pissed off at Jackie Chan for publicly making a statement that is generally accepted in mainland China:
"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not," Chan said Saturday. "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."

A former co-worker of mine is from China and, during a friendly discussion on political differences between the US and China, said pretty much the same thing, stating that the Chinese society wasn't 'mature' enough for western style democracy.

Whether these are beliefs held because of in-depth personal analysis or cultural socialization I won't make a claim on. Nor will I make any claims as to the accuracy of Chan's beliefs.

What I will say is that this once again shows that different cultures 'think' differently than each other. They hold different mores and values that may be completely alien to someone from a different culture.

Trying to make one big happy world where it rains gumdrops, unicorns fart rainbows, and everybody goes around hugging eachother in a hippy induced daze is just a fools dream for people who think that humans are more than just one step above their baser instincts.

Time for swim lessons.

Took Fourth Power Alpha down to the creek on the 4-wheeler. During a rousing game of "Sink", he lost his balance and became the object of the game. The current was just a bit to strong for him to stand back up as he started drifting downstream resulting in an impromptu daddy rescue. So with one very wet little boy and me w/ some soaked boots we headed back home amidst giggles on how mad momma was going to be.

The look we got when we arrived home made it even funnier. Then Fourth Power Bravo announced how much fun it would be when she 'accidentally' fell in at which point she was told if there were any 'accidents' there would be no more rides for her.

Ah, the joys of parenthood.

More public support for gun control..

Remember that MO house bill that got the Campus Carry amendment added to it? Well, it didn't do as well when it came up for the final vote.

It lost 8 votes of support to pass with only 105-50-8.

Looking over their shoulders

Amidst another "Mexican Canard", Josh Sugarmann drops this little steamer into the Huffpo bowl:
this is the organization that for years to infiltrate the gun violence prevention movement

Which means they're still paranoid that there might be more but they just don't know. Could it be someone in the office? One of the people they've communicated with via internet?

Generating this level of stress made everything Mary did worth it.

Of course Josh is always wont to mention that his people do the same things.

Let's Get Ready To RUMBLE!!!

French nab 11 pirates as threats mount on US ships

MOMBASA, Kenya – A pirate gang that launched an abortive attack on a second U.S. ship loaded with food aid said Wednesday they were singling out American vessels and would kill their crews

An escalation of hostilities is the only way this will end. "Giving them what they want" only encourages them more.

Double Standards

The group "Students for Gun-Free Schools" is holding a 'walkout' tomorrow to protest a bill that would allow concealed carry on campus. The organizer of the walk-out, VT alum John Woods , according to an interview in the Daily Brown Herald, "found it ‘personally upsetting’ that the Virginia Tech shooting is quoted as a context for the introduction of the bills.”

The hypocrisy is overwhelming as the SGFS, on the front page of their website, uses the VT tragedy and other high profile shootings to push 'reasonable, common-sense' gun regulations mixed in w/ the usual attacks on permit holders.

I wonder where Mr. Woods' outrage is over the Brady Campaign using VT victim family members to advocate bills that had nothing to do w/ VT or their call for $32 to 'fight the gun lobby' the very day it happened.

I would also like to note that the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus FaceBook page has three times as many members as the SGFS. Telling, isn't it?

O-Day +82: Playin' with the Big Boys..

Now that Obama is in office, he gets to see just how much fun it is to juggle paying back his political supporters, supporting US allies and dealing w/ a UN hostile to said supporters and allies.

The White House has indicated for weeks that it would boycott the conference unless significant changes were made to the draft text. This position has been cheered by the Jewish community, but other minority organizations, notably the NAACP and the TransAfrica Forum, expressed concern, arguing that the forum was a uniquely important opportunity to address world racism.

Who is more important to his re-election? Which political stance will get thrown under the bus?

The Stoopid, It Hurts

Huffpo links to the Newsweek "Assault Weapons on the Back Burner" article.

The range of comments show another reason why public support is swinging in our direction. Gun Controllers are unable to have any sort of discussion w/o referring to NRA members as 'hillbillies' or 'retarded', have no idea what an 'assault weapon' is, are unable to refrain from making the usual small genitalia remarks, and even hope for terrorist attacks on the US so they can blame the NRA and pass gun bans.

These are the voices of 'grassroots gun control'. Gotta love 'em.
