Why We Can't Have Nice Things

Old guys like me remember the anti-gun groups touting Australian 'hunters' denouncing semi-autos in an effort to gain support for their failing gun confiscation.

Here in the US we give them the name of 'Fudd' and the anti's use them in the same way... trotting them out and using them to create fake gun groups in an effort to push or maintain unreasonable restrictions.

In PA, the house is supporting allowing semi autos for hunting. On a FB post on the PAFOA page, a commenter makes an accurate prediction:
I'm just posting so i can read all the Fudd comments later.

something something machine guns for deer something something not sporting, something there wont be meat left something something one shot, one kill something something spray and pray.
and wouldn't you know it, within minutes a Fudd shows up w/ a high capacity assault shovel.
This is good for varmits.but deer, worst idea ever. PA has lots of hunters and little land, as other states are usually opposite or have more land to offer. People already spray and pray with pumps along fields at running herds. That's so dangerous, now add ARs and or any semi in general? Peaceful hunting will become a warzone, I promise you that. For every one responsible semi hunter, there will be ten morons playing call of duty through the woods. I know how pa hunters are for the majority, meet them every day. I'll keep using my bolt action, but it's scary enough to hear one bullet wiz by..let alone ten

.im just a hunter that doesnt wanna be shot by spray and pray morons who cant one shot one kill..but sure, act like an idiot, thats w hat the left wants you to do..snap and act out of control..dumbass

That's anywhere in Northumberland county..they all wanna blow gaint holes and Road hunt..a road hunter arrested every year..why should I have to hunt ethically and sensible and you wanna get the local drunks semis to hunt with? If you need this so bad, your not a hunter..thats like crying you can use a xbow..whi h people did, thats not even a right. Its juat being a baby, wanting what the next state can do. Soon everyone will complain about other places get more deer tags or something
greatful hunter who doesn't use rights as an excuse to get unnecessary hunting firearms
Semi shotguns are fine dude..turkey, squirrel whatever. Just not center fire above a .23 caliber..too many people in the would you do see..someone keeps pulling the trigger with buck fever, don't see a guy down range and shoots him..on the water duck hurting with pellet shot..lot less danger

Use semis on coyote, duck, turkey, rabbit, pheasant, grouse...ANYTHING EXCEPT DEER. Not big center fire in crowded areas. If you think that's smart, your the dumbest hunter ever..use them on anything except deer. That's just to popular in PA, someone will abuse an easy trigger with a running 10point buck..I'll guarantee it

Im gonna laugh qhen two days into deer season someone gets shot from a spray and pray..and be laughing for days cause your hurting your own cause..everyday i work with fellow hunters and they all agree..they all know one guy is gonna ruin it..so deny it all you want, it will backfire

I guess so..i own an AR dumbass. But not for hunting, because I'm not going overseas after isis. Im Quietly sitting in the woods. Why would I wanna to use a small 223 with a strikerfire green dot with no magnification over a 270 weatherby with a leupold? Think about that

 I know..but if you already have a good deer gun..why go dump $1000+ on a new ar10 ? Just to use a semi? That's a dumb argument.

Well if you don't own a deer gun now..your not a hunter..if you only start because semis are legal, your hunting for the wrong reasons and shouldn't be

So don't be an ethical hunter with common sense? A hunter with enough skill to kill with one shot instead of ten? I'll take being a fudd

Oh look..another sensible hunter who knows the limits of the population..ya gonna call this hunter a liberal too cause he dont wanna machine gun deer?

No way man..just don't use guns you don't need. You want a grenade next? Landmines? That what you need or ya wanna go to tanks? I like to use drones and missles, it's the most modern

guess not..you win boo hoo. I'll sell all my guns tomorrow cause I'm not sucking a modern boner, just a traditional one built up by years of ethical game taking...sorry I don't jump bandwagons for the "newest thing"
All the same arguments and terminology used by anti-gun activists.  Just as bad is that he has absolutely no idea why everyone else jumped on him.

Fudd/Only One In Action

It's entertaining to watch an alleged 'Only One' and confirmed Fudd's arguments devolve.  On the NG(V)AC's latest (oct 8th) 'fact', a guy goes on about how 'gun owners aren't responsible enough' and then starts listing his masters thesis in firearms.  'Combat Vet', 'Peace Officer', 'competitions', etc.  By his standards, 3.6m+ CCW licenses need to be revoked.

This is where it gets really entertaining:
By having a gun in the home the chances of someone living in the home being shot by that gun are far greater than a criminal getting shot with it. This is statistically proven.
His 'evidence'?  You guessed it. Kellerman. So I pound the hell out of him w/ actual numbers. His response?  Not refuting any of this actual evidence but instead to call me a 'fanatic',compare me to a litany of other causes and ask me how many dead children I find acceptable before mandatory training is required for all firearm owners.

His answer. Zero.  I then laughed at his lack of reality and he tried to change the subject from mandatory training which he earlier advocated to youth education like Eddie Eagle, child deaths included w/ adults, carrying v ownership, etc.  All over the place.

His final response is typical. He took his ball and went home:
This has reached well beyond the waste of time point. You seem like the type that needs the last word. So I will be ignoring you now.
Which he did and continues to spout his gun control endorsing statements: "I can't foresee the need for an AR 15 with a 100 round mag."  while claiming he doesn't support 'gun bans.

This is the kind of uneducated twit that the Brady Campaing, VPC and CSGV Feed off of. I have no patience for them and will continue to tell them how stupid they are and what they're really doing for firearm rights.

UPDATE: Well it looks like 'Brent' removed the majority of his comments, specifically the ones where he parrots the gun control party lines and proves himself to be a true blue Fudd and 'Only One'.  I guess he wasn't so confident in his expertise after all if he now chose to hide it from the world.

Give Us This Day Our Daily Fudd-(ette)?

Well it looks like the Anti's have noticed the huge influx of women entering the shooting sports so they had to find a modern version of the AHSA, in other words, a lady-Fudd.  Enter Lily Raff McCaulou, a MD expat who lived in Manhattan for years and then moved to Oregon and discovered a love of hunting.  But that's it.

The op-ed reads just like every other one we've read from every other fudd over the years. 'NRA 'only' represents 4m people', 'does nothing for hunters', 'they won't come for my rifles/shotgun', etc.  The only difference is the gender.  She's perfectly willing to throw millions of other firearm owners under the bus as long as she can keep her 'huntin' guns'.

Obviously her 'research' missed the Wittington Center, the dozens of hunter specific booths at the NRA annual meetings, along w/ the numerous training programs and efforts to keep hunting lands etc. open.  Much more so than almost any other group out there.

I wonder what she would have to say if she knew in Illinois we can't hunt w/ rifles? Or that the VPC (financially supported through the Joyce Foundation while Obama was a board member) has proposed adding rifles and all associated equipment under the category of machineguns. Or that Obama supported a bill that would have banned shotguns.

She doesn't seem to understand that 'hunters' are only one subset of 'sportsperson' involved in firearms. Most firearm owners don't hunt.  There are more target shooters and plinkers than there are hunters yet groups like PETA and HSUS are fighting tooth and nail (along w/ all their 'eco-friendly' allies) to end her sport for good or at least marginalize it to limited hunting clubs for the rich and connected.

Maybe is she would realize these things, she might realize the NRA represents her (at least in part) after all.

Weer'd has more.

UPDATE: And the Anti's have chimed in trying to create a wedge. Expect them to fawn all over her.

UPDATE II: She has a post up on her blog and the comments are rolling in.  I left mine detailing why she's being questioned.  Now we get to see how she reacts.  Will she brush aside the ruder comments and recognize that while the NRA may not be the organization for her, they do more than she thinks, and that she's being used as a puppet for gun control activists or will she prove to be another AHSA-hole like Ray Schoenke?

Textbook Fudd

While 'Media Matters' does what they're paid to do by the Joyce Foundation, one of the comments shows just how gun control got passed. An alleged "lifelong hunter, shooter, and gun owner. " who is willing to throw millions of other firearm owners under the bus as long as he can use his 'huntin' guns (AKA 'Fudd'). Let's take a look at his statements:
What I would personally like to see is for the entire 2nd Amendment be applied. I specifically mean the part about a "well regulated militia".
IOW, someone doesn't keep up w/ the news.
Such a militia would require gun owners to undergo training and submit to periodic inspections of their fitness and suitability to possess firearms.
Since he's already proven he is ignorant, he would fail.
I would also support a move to adopt a policy, like many European countries, that forbids the unregulated private ownership of firearms or ammunition used by military forces.
Kind of like Mexico does. Hope he likes hunting w. .22lr. since that Remington 700 (AKA the M24 Sniper Weapon System) uses 'military caliber' as do most of his 'huntin guns'.
Those men who adopted the 2nd Amendment could not imagine, in their darkest nightmares, the amount of firepower one person can carry using modern weapons.
Even though several of them were scientists and inventors and created one of the most progressive governments known to man, none of them could ever have imagined technological advances.

This is the kind of person that IANSA touted when they were promoting the Australian gun bans and the people that made up the anti-gun front group American Hunters and Shooters Assoc. It is also why we refer to this type of person as a 'Fudd'. He's as ignorant and stupid as the cartoon character w/ no idea he's being used as a tool by the gun control fanatics w/ his selfish behavior.

The Fudd Task Force

Unsurprisingly a Fudd has been chosen to head up the Democrats 'violence task force'.  The agenda is already in place.  Ban as many guns as possible.
"There is absolutely no reason why people should have access to military-type assault weapons or assault magazines. They serve no sporting purpose, they aid criminals and they open the door to mass shootings like the one we're mourning in Newtown," Thompson said Monday
So there's not going to be any talk about mental health or improving security. It will exclusively be to try and get their pet gun laws in action even though every single one was in place in CT. They won't stop w/ semi-auto's either. Anyone who believes that is deliberately ignorant.

Not Just Your Average Fudd..

Turns out that the "I'm a gun owner but..." Fudd from the other day isn't just your average, everyday elitist not caring about anything but his own privileges.

'Citizen Dave' is actually the former mayor of Madison, WI and MAIG member.

Wonder what he thinks of the fact that MAIG has a higher indictment/conviction rate of it's member than CCW license holders?

Going the wrong Wray

Bitter has a piece up about Pat Wray, a true blue Fudd that's been highlighted by Armed and Safe for his many "pro-gun" stances like being against Concealed Carry, Assault Weapons, purchases of ammo, etc.

I think he's gotten confused. Shouldn't he be running for the AHSA board instead?

Edit: Bitter thinks it's a disservice to call him a Fudd. I can agree w/ that. He gives Fudds a bad name by trying to throw everyone under the bus.

I'm a Gun Owner Butt + Fudd = This Guy

Uncle points to a textbook example Fudd who is perfectly willing to throw all other gun owners under the bus as long as he can keep his 'huntin' guns'. He even quoted Brady Campaign statistics.
I'm not worried that laws clamping down on handguns and automatic weapons will affect my hunting options one bit.
Yet who will he come crying to when his 'hunting options' are reduced by loss of lands, expensive licenses, etc. ? Oh right. All those handgun and automatic weapon owners that support the NRA etc. and have done his heavy lifting for all these years.
Of course I am aware that my hunting rifles can be used to kill people as well as deer and ducks, but they're not designed for that, and that makes a big difference.
I certainly can think of no reason why he should be allowed to own an intermediate power sniper rifle like the Remington 700, do you?
What's needed is a new movement of responsible sportsmen who recognize the fact that there is so much unnecessary death, injury and suffering that goes on in this country thanks to our lax gun laws.
Boy, that sounds familiar. Maybe he should check out the AHSA. The Obama shill 'sportsmans group' that disappeared right after the election and which supported all the gun control schemes he does.

I wonder if this @ss realizes that there wouldn't be any firearms left except for specially licensed hunting clubs for the elite if it weren't for the 'radical' NRA and the millions of firearm owners who finally said people like him were anachronisms. The very reason Harlan Carter staged his 'revolt' back in the 70's.

Fuuuuuuuudddddsssss!!!!!!

The epitome of the 'Gun Owner Butt...." heads and an 'Authorized Journalist' to boot. He gets his skimpies in a twist because someone dares to insult the lack of knowledge most journalists have of firearms:
Shot (heh heh)

Goes on to show his 'gun owner creds':
I love guns. I am the proud owner of several shotguns and a .22-caliber rifle. I’d have more guns if I could. There’s an old joke: How many guns do you need? One more.
Then goes on to want to restricting the most popular firearms in the US plus a bunch of those other 'reasonable' solutions so beloved by anti-gun fanatics. All things he doesn't own of course:
Reasonable gun controls, such as limiting the cartridge capacities of assault rifles and tougher punishments for owners who let their guns fall into the wrong hands, should be a part of that. So should keeping guns out of our public parks, despite the fact that our legislature has allowed holders of concealed-carry permits to pack in parks.
Sorry skippy but you lost your 'creds' when you called an AR an 'assault rifle' and poisoned the well by assuming anyone who disagrees w/ you is 'unreasonable'.

You're just another Fudd in a long history of Fudd's that will support any gun restrictions as long as it doesn't effect you.

addendum:  And what does he mean ''if I could"? Is he restricted somehow from owning more firearms?  Wife won't let him?

A Fudd by any other name..

is still a Fudd.

Over on Tom Kings Blog, he has a regular poster who goes by the handle Gman. Gman is a self admitted 3 week a year shooter and attacks the NYSRPA, NRA, etc. for overreacting to legislation like gun bans and increased restrictions. He ignores the fact that the political allies of the anti-gunners in NY HAVE passed laws he considers "molehills" and then immediately pushed for more.

What he considers a "principled" stance is to throw gun owners he doesn't associate with under the bus to protect his personal interests for the time being yet can't seem to understand why we don't like him:

Yes, well, maybe it’s because I’m not a full-time shooter, just a three-week-a-year hunter.

But I believe the NYSPRA presents an intractable absolutist stance on too many issues on which the public at large has reached an opposite consensus, and cries wolf on molehill issues. For instance, I am willing to live with magazine restrictions if it preserves the larger right. That doesn’t win me many friends at the range.

And unfortunately, because of my principled stance I am viewed by most people inside the gun lobby as an enemy or naif instead of a moderate ally.

That is exactly the attitude that IANSA exploited to get their laws passed in Australia:

When we were campaigning for the reform of the gun laws in Australia, one of the interesting groups that came out to support the new gun laws was a group called the Professional Hunters Association. They’re the original “Crocodile Dundee,” the macho big guys who control feral animals in the national parks.. And they said they supported the new gun laws because anyone who needed a semiautomatic to kill an animal was a city boy who shouldn’t be out there with a gun in the first place.

-Rebecca Peters

So get this Gman, Those aren't "principles" you're touting, that's blatant selfishness. When you're doing the work of the enemy for them, you're not a "moderate ally", you're a stooge and we will consider you an enemy as well.

The race for last place

Truth be told, just a few years ago I couldn’t have cared less about may issue or no issue states. It didn’t affect me so screw all those commie bastards.

I didn’t even care enough about my own Right to carry concealed until I was 35 years old. But when I reflect; I’ve been shooting since age 6, started carrying openly at age 12(rifle, duh) saved my own life with the gun I was carrying at age 14 and have been eligible for an Oregon CHL since age 21, it still took me another decade and a half to actually do it. I should note that Barbarian gnawed on my ear for a full 5 years to get my ass off the couch and pony up the cash and sit through an afternoon class to actually get it. At one point, he even offered to front the cost if I would commit to the training class. I turned him down repeatedly.

I can’t honestly say that I was a Fudd, but I just wasn’t following what our congress critters were doing.

I was ignorant.

Now???

Well, I consider myself very well informed about Oregon Law concerning both concealed carry and open carry and somewhat less than ignorant about matters in the other 49 states.

Constitutional carry is way cool. Reciprocity is way cool. For those in the last two states that don’t have any form of CCW, you’re doing research about crap the rest of us take for granted.

That’s what the politicos need to hear. We have had this for a long time now. It’s time for you to join the union.

Together we stand, divided we fall.

Repeat a lie often enough.

Dave Codrea et al have already taken Obama to task for his wife's statements on "rural white men" being allowed to own firearms even though he believes complete bans are constitutional. I'm going to hit on this part of the article:

"So the point is, though, we should be able to do that, and we should be able to enforce laws that keep guns off the streets in inner cities because some unscrupulous gun dealer is, you know, letting somebody load up a van with a bunch of cheap handguns or sawed-off shotguns and dumping them and selling them for a profit in the streets."

So basically he's saying is that he has no idea that multiple sales send up red flags at the BATFE or he's flat out lying. What this translates to is support for :

1. One gun a month laws
2. Closing the "gun show loophole"
3. Lawsuits against dealers and manufacturers

All the while trying to get the Fudd vote. I expect him to receive an AHSA endorsement soon.

It's a Fudd World After All

This is the kind of situation that elitist 'Fudds' like 'Citizen Dave' dream of for the US.
As more and more Chinese begin to explore the pleasures of the countryside, some 200 hunting clubs have sprung up in the past few years. Many offer little more than the chance for tourists to fire a live weapon; guns have been strictly controlled on the mainland since the Communists came to power in 1949.

Some, however, cater to wealthy Chinese who have also started travelling to Africa in search of big game, and 14 species of animals can be legally hunted on the Chinese mainland, according to the government.

Private hunting clubs for the 'elite' so they don't have to worry about the unwashed masses disturbing their hobby. Heaven.

More From 'Citizen Dave'..

The former mayor of Madison, WI and MAIG member has this to say about the millions of people who legally carry firearms:
they're scared, paranoid or have some kind of Superman complex.
Sebastian TBFKASIH calls him a 'fraud', not a Fudd. I call him both. He is typical of your gun control elitist. He has no problems throwing millions of other firearm owners 'under the bus' as long as he can keep his TWO (count 'em), TWO guns. One of which being an intermediate sniper rifle in a military caliber. Then he can have his private 'sportsman' club where he can keep his guns locked up there and never have to worry about all the unwashed masses having the same privileges as him.

UPDATE: And reader DYLAN! notes that 'Dave' also believes anyone who wants to protect themselves in an urban area is obviously racist. That must explain why MAIG co-founder and former Chicago Mayor Daley demanded 24/7 taxpayer funded security even after he retired.

"I'm a Gun Owner Butt..." #567

Classic Fudd can't see the forest through the trees. Drops membership in his local club because they now require NRA membership. The main reason they did this?
That audit could also be useful in addressing neighbors' complaints about shooting at the gun club. Wescott said the club has gotten "numerous complaints" since the nearby Cross Hill neighborhood was developed. He noted that the club operated for decades before the development brought in hundreds of residents.
But that's not good enough for Elmer. The NRA is 'extreme':
lobbying to block laws that would restrict high-capacity ammunition magazines and semi-automatic guns, which he believes are useful only for shooting people.

By contrast, he said, rifles are "sportsmen's guns and not guns for shooting people."

So he's willing to throw millions of guns and gun owners he doesn't like under the bus as long as he can keep his 'sportsmen's guns'. Like the Remington 700. Here's what Rebecca Peters, former ED of IANSA has to say to him:
“I’m sad for you. I suppose if you miss your sport, take up another sport. Take up a sport that does not require a weapon invented for the sole and specific purpose of killing another human being.”
But this line tells the whole story:
He said he hasn't been a very active member of the club, but enjoys the occasional chance to shoot and the club's social aspects.
Yep. That's it right there. Wonder how many work days he attended to help keep the place up? He wants to have the club there for his convenience but he doesn't want to do anything that will improve it or help it survive. IOW, he's a huge 'Gun Owner Butt', more of an @ss really. Good thing groups like the NRA, SAF and ISRA are there to do the heavy lifting for him.

More on this twit at Weer'd's (who was a hair slower on the uptake ;) )
