Wishful Thinking

The Brady Campaign and CSGV have both tweeted about a WaPo article calling on 'O' to push for gun control in the name of Rep. Giffords during his next SOTU address. Besides the fact that both also supported an article decrying 'gun nuts' for 'politicizing a tragedy', do any of them honestly think "O" in campaign mode is going to touch the subject of 'gun control'?

Oh yeah, he'll play it behind the scenes but in no way is he stupid enough to come right out and say anything about it. The only result from that would be to throw more votes to the GOP and give more ammo(pun intended) to the NRA/GOA etc.

But the PuSH'ers are desperate for any sort of attention.

IL Sen Kirk Suffers Stroke

IL Sen Mark Kirk suffered a stroke and was hospitalized pending surgery today. While I don't wish him any harm, Kirk is an long time anti-gun RINO who has attempted to do more damage to our rights that good.

So will he recover and keep his seat? Retire allowing Quinn to appoint a replacement (likely D)?

Delusions and Failures

We've talked about the NGAC before . This is a bunch of gun control retreads who have formed a 'gun victims advocacy group'. They claimed they outnumber the NRA by 50:1 while having a whopping 77 (currently 90) fans on FB. They're still trying to push a 'nationwide boycott' of Starbucks. Yeah. OK.

Anyway, look at the bottom of the presser to their 'about' blurb:

ABOUT NGAC: The National Gun Victims Action Council (NGAC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit network of 14 million gun victims, survivors, their families, supporters, the faith community, secular organizations working on gun violence reduction and ordinary people leveraging their economic (buying) power to change America's gun laws.

So w/o permission or any sort of evidence whatsoever, they claim to have 14 million members. This is a mental disorder, nothing but.

Andrew Goddard's 'GoodFacts'

Andrew Goddard, Religious Bigot, Gun Control Leader and all around classy guy plays fast and loose w/ the numbers in a Letter to the Editor:

If gun ownership was the answer to personal protection, there wouldn't be 30,000 gun deaths a year, of which fewer than 300 are due to justifiable homicide.

As usual, what he doesn't mention is that the majority of those 'gun deaths' (he doesn't care about any others) have nothing to do w/ 'protection', but instead are suicides. Of the actual homicides, the majority of those are by and against prohibited persons/criminals involved in illegal activities. This is known as lying w/ statistics.

Then he brings the funny:

I am not advocating that law-abiding and mentally sound people not buy guns. There are many legitimate uses for them; however, before bringing a gun into the home, give more consideration to the facts.

Yeah right. He's associated himself w/ every anti-gun group in the US whose goals are to limit and restrict firearm ownership as much as possible. What else should we expect from bigots like him?

PEG-Heads Missing the Irony

I was working on a post regarding a shooting and noticed that 'Protest Any Guns' linked it:

Yes. California. #1/A+ rated by the Brady Campaign. Handgun registration, Ammo registration, severe limits on what kinds you can own, waiting periods, highly restricted CCW, etc. Obviously they need to make even stricter laws.

I like this line:

Hmm. Would 'groups' be a codeword for 'gangs' or am I being 'racist'?

Say 'Buh Bye' to CoBIS?

New York is actually doing something intelligent and is proposing dumping its $44m boondoggle defacto gun registration through ballistic fingerprinting scheme. From the NYSRPA:

ALBANY, NY (01/22/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association applauds Governor Cuomo's proposal to scrap the Combined Ballistic Identification System (CoBIS). After collecting over 356,000 spent shell casings since March 2001 at an estimated cost of nearly $44 million, not a single crime has been solved because of the program.

"By any rational measure, CoBIS has been a total failure," said NYSRPA President Tom King. "What is astounding is that there are actually elected officials defending it. Only in Albany would you find people who think that a program which has run for more than 10 years without producing a single result is good public policy."

NYSRPA strongly encourages the legislature to put an end to this farce and pass A-1131/S-459.

I'll disagree w/ Mr. King on one point, it's not just in Albany. There are anti-gun fanatics like that scattered throughout the country. Just look at DC, Chicago and CA for examples.

Education vs Fear

Self Admitted anti-gun nut reporter Edith Brady-Lunny has written a series of surprisingly well balanced articles on Illinois, CCW and firearms. This comes after she took a training course to educate herself. Here's the key phrase:

I actually did a fair job of hitting the targets once I got the hang of the process. I kept the paper evidence — proof that I had indeed overcome a fear I never intended to face.

But once she did face it, her opinion started to change. Amazing how that works, eh? But the levels of ignorance are still out there. From Laurie Bergner, VP of programs for the McLean County League of Women Voters:

“Nowhere in the Second Amendment does it refer to concealed guns. Having a right doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do,” said Bergner, who argues the founding fathers did not intend for citizens to be uniformly armed.

Ignoring the logical fallacies, let's paraphrase that, shall we?

There's a few other things that aren't directly referred to in the BOR, privacy for example, but I'ld bet Ms. Bergner is a big fan of that.

Once an individual educates themselves on an issue, often the fear goes away. For others, though, they choose to either deliberately revel in their ignorance and fear because it's easier or more comfortable than facing them. Those kinds of individuals cannot be reasoned with. The first type we need to encourage.

Gun control advocates like Ladd Everitt, Joan Peterson, Josh Sugarmann, Andrew Goddard and NYC Mayor Bloomburg's MAIG members would rather have this happen to you, your family or friends:

Than for you to be able to lawfully defend yourself w/ a firearm.

Effective vs Ineffective Activism

The CSGV put up a video on the lobbying in Virginia on MLK day, one by the VCDL, one by a collection of Anti's. The purpose of the video is to show how mean and nasty gun owners are and how peaceful and 'reasonable' anti-gunners are.

I saw something else. Watch the video. Listen to the reactions of the crowds.

The VCDL event had attendees cheering and participating. These are people that are going to DO something for their cause. People who are going to be active.

Listening to the other event, I agree w/ Ladd. There's a 'dramatic difference'. Outside of the prayers, the speakers received tepid applause that seemed forced (ie after Colin Goddard's speech) when they even showed it at all which says something else entirely .

Which group do you think is going to have more success in getting the public to participate?
