Police acting like 'gestapo' at CHA project, Jackson says
Dozens of angry residents joined Rev. Jesse Jackson at the Chicago Housing Authority's Ickes Homes today to protest what they say is a system of illegal searches, seizures and arrests at the complex.Residents allege that they are being unfairly targeted by police as a way to push them out of the area to make way for massive redevelopment plans.
Police comb the public housing project on South State Street daily, they said, searching pockets without warning, entering homes without permission and arresting and charging residents and visitors alike with trespassing.
Of course he doesn't care that they're completely disallowed from owning any firearms:
4. Unless required by lawful employment, displaying, using or possessing anywhere on CHA property any firearms, ammunition or other weapons. It shall be a serious breach of the Lease for any resident or resident family members to display a weapon with a verbal or non-verbal threat to shoot, fire, explode, throw or otherwise discharge the weapon or to inflict any injury on another person or to damage any property through the intentional, reckless, careless or negligent use of a weapon;
CHA Lease Agreement
Sure made them safer. Didn't it?
