ISP kneejerk to baby's FOID

In response to a father getting a FOID card for his 10 month old in order to buy him an heirloom, the Illinois State Police (ISP) have proposed an age limit of 10 for the cards. The justification: It will reduce crime and accidents. Sounds 'reasonable', right?

1. You can't buy any firearm unless you're 18 or over anyway. The FOID card under 18 allows for possession w/ an adult. So much for reducing crime.

2. This will prohibit youth under 10 from participating in any hunting, shooting, or safety courses. So much for reducing accidents.

To become effective, the ISP’s age-limit proposal must be approved by JCAR - an administrative body responsible for establishing regulations and implementing guidance for statutes signed into law by the governor. Prior to considering proposed regulations, JCAR must observe a 45-day public comment period during which citizens may submit their views on the proposal, in writing, to JCAR.

Illinois residents need to contact JCAR to oppose this. Stay on message, they don't care about other issues.
