So I really wonder where they get their 'facts' from besides the deepest parts of their rectums.

Depends on how they define assault weapons, I reckon. If they go all California and basically define them as "anything that isn't a revolver or a bolt-action rifle," then I suppose they could come to that conclusion by legitimate, if tortured, logic.
Only if they define assault weapon as one used to commit assault.
In fairness, they can "find" whatever they want. They are free to find that the number 7, being unlucky, should be removed from the world's number system, effectively making it a base-9 counting system.
Similarly, the good people of Buffalo Grove - by referendum - can "find" that such stupidity need not be written or spoken aloud; and that the President and Board of Trustees are 20 times more likely to spew it than "normal" people; and that they have no Constitutional "right" or "need" for the authority vested in them; and therefore, every one of them should be stripped of the title of "Board Member" and be physically removed from the premises.
Hey, mine make a helluva lot more sense then theirs!
WHEREAS it is awfully hard to remember the value of Pi to any useful number of decimal places;
AND WHEREAS it is really annoying to hafta do complicated mathematics when you have a brain the size of a walnut;
AND WHEREAS the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo Grove have brains even smaller than walnuts;
LET IF BE KNOWN that from this day forth the value of Pi shall be found to be "3."
Arggh! No, even this is less dumb than what they have actually done. Poe's Law hurts.
Cook County used the same rationale 20 years ago (http://www.isra.org/cook_county/112026.pdf), which was likely based on the Cox Newspapers Study that Kopel dismantled about the same time (http://www.guncite.com/journals/rational.html#fnb124).
