NG(V)AC Explained

Elliot Fineman started the NG(V)AC (are they still around?  Yeah unfortunately) in 2010 in response to the murder of his son by a gunman. Here's what his bio says on that:

On the morning of December 31, 2006, the Chicago police came to Elliot’s door to tell him his son, Michael Fineman, had been murdered by a stranger, while dining in a San Diego restaurant with his wife. The murderer was a paranoid schizophrenic who had legally obtained the gun. Since that day, Elliot has been committed to preventing other parents and families from having to go through this unimaginable, indescribable and life altering experience.

Now let's look at some of the facts behind the murder. His son was murdered by a man named Ralph Stephen Garbarini in San Diego, California, the state w/ some of the strictest laws in the nation.  I haven't been able to find any information as to whether Garbarini had been diagnosed and/or committed previously but one article I read said he hadn't had a past record of violence. So if he was diagnosed and/or committed, then he did not 'legally' purchase the firearm.  If he wasn't, there wasn't anything in the records that would have disqualified him from ownership under any system or background check.  


I also haven't been able to find where he purchased the firearm (A .22 caliber handgun).  If he purchased it in California, then he was licensed, registered and had gone through background checks no matter where he purchased it in state (gun show or FFL).  If he purchased it out of state and brought it in, then he had 60 days to get said licensing/registration. One report says he arrived in 'San Diego' a little over three weeks before the shooting but not necessarily the state.  That same report also lists what was found in his vehicle when he was caught:

two homemade silencers, a fake ID for “David Sims” and a murder-mystery novel titled “Penance,”

So two 'homemade silencers' (in violation of federal law) and a 'fake ID' (also in violation of the law) plus the fact that the shooter did not have a concealed carry license.   Even if he did 'legally' buy the gun, his other actions showed that he was not planning on using it for legal purposes.

Then take a look at NG(V)AC/Fineman's first target.  Starbucks.  For allowing open carry/concealed carry in their stores depending on state/local law.  Not improvement on mental health screening or making sure records get added to the database, not even trying to 'close the gun show loophole' but a decision by a private company that had nothing in any way connected w/ his son's murder. 

Groups like this don't care about 'gun violence', they care about 'gun control' and 'victims of gun violence' are merely tools to be used to achieve that control.  People like Elliot Fineman and Joan Peterson who have suffered losses from people who shouldn't have been allowed in public have become consumed w/ the tool used and not the underlying reasons behind it. I might feel more sympathetic towards them if they weren't dedicating their life to enabling the same sort of victimhood for the rest of society.

NG(V)AC: The Final Mental Breakdown

If you read up on Elliot Fineman and the NG(V)AC , you'll not that he's not entirely there. I mean he honestly believes he has 14 million members of his organization that just now, after nearly a year in existence, broke 400 likes on his FB page.

His latest 'Gun Fact' post takes the cake and has shown just how delusional this person is. The title gives you a clue that Elliot needs some meds:

 If Only The Criminals Had Guns, U.S. Gun Homicides Would Plummet.  

OK, titles can be exaggeration. We'll give him a pass on that for now. 

The usual US vs UK gun comparisons w/ no historical comparison. Old hat, right?  But then this:

It is the law-abiding citizens with guns, not the criminals, who are committing the majority of the gun homicides.

By 'law abiding citizens', he includes in that category mass murders and terrorists who weren't included in the 'prohibited' category due primarily to gov't screw ups. 

I wonder how he can claim this being that he's previously claimed that 'There is no such thing as a law abiding citizen'? Is he saying there's no gun homicides? Being that he's in Chicago, how does he then explain Chicago Police Dept. reports stating that 87% of the homicides committed in the city are by those w/ prior arrest records (pg56/57)?

Gun control is a mental illness and Elliot Fineman is the head patient.

So Elliot Fineman of the NG(V)AC is thankful for mass shootings so his personal agenda can be forwarded.  Nevermind the fact that both shooters passed background checks because both had slipped through the mental health system and that some of Elliot's endorsed politicians have voted for confiscation. 

This is the type of (im)morality inherent in gun control. 

Elliot Fineman, Not Living In Illinois or Reality

Well first of all Elliot Fineman of the NGVAC defends 'Snuffy' Phleger's threats against a gun shop owner, then, in a roundabout way shows that FOID's and background checks are serving no purpose since Chicago is dead last in prosecuting firearm crimes.

But Elliot goes even farther:

Thanks to the gun lobby, Illinois gun owners enjoy almost complete freedom from regulation. They are unlicensed, their weapons are unregistered and they don’t even have to carry insurance like people who own pools and vicious dogs not to mention car owners.

Strange that there's this thing called a FOID, aka a gun license, in Illinois.  So is he ignorant and/or lying?

Even in the People's Soviet of Illinois, the employees had heard about the Buycott while the anti's are having apoplectic fits over it, denying reality and making d!ck jokes.

Talk About Low Hanging Fruit

Miguel slaps Elliot Fineman of the NG(V)AC around on another one of (Elliot's) fantasy posts.

 I would wonder how Fineman must feel knowing the last major thing he did in his life is a absolute failure but he lives in such a fantasy world he probably still thinks the Starbucks boycott is still ongoing and that there are 14 million members of his organization.

Handguns: Now w/ Bluetooth

That's the latest 'fact' put out by Elliot Fineman of the NG(V)AC.

"Further, a checked gun can be remotely fired using a cell phone. "

Yep. Then throw in some 'Explosive Decompression" and you've got the next Die Hard film plot. Better than snakes I suppose. 

I actually looking forward to these 'fact' sheets. Not just for Onion-esque factor each one gives but that we can now associate the silliness to all of their 'board members' even though I'm sure few if any of them have had anything to do w/ the 'group' since the complete and absolute failure of their 'Starbucks Boycott' campaign.

I also kind of feel sorry for Elliot. My kids used to watch a British animated show called 'Mouse House' which started off w/ the 'Grandmother' relating the story of the mice in the wall. I always made the joke "Granma's talking to the mice again". Elliot's not far from that.

Settlement W/ No Admission of Wrongdoing

Last week I accepted the challenge of the head of the NGVAC, Elliot Fineman. Well today I finally got a response. After some back and forth exchanges, I got this:

I guess your referring to what I copied from the website below. We do not say Hasan was on the Terrorist Watch List, we say what you had said was the case in your earlier email. Nonetheless, since you have taken the time to read the enormous amount of material on our website, we will send you the $25 as a thank you for having done so. Have a nice weekend and enjoy the Super Bowl.

So even though Hasan is used as an example on the page talking about people on the 'Terror Watch List' buying guns, they're not 'really' saying he was on the Terror Watch List.

That's OK. It's still a box of ammo and some Starbucks coffee courtesy of Mr. Fineman. Gotta love it.

The Truth Hurts: Elliot Fineman Enables 'Reasoned Discourse'

Or whoever it is running the NGAC FB page since they seem to be keeping Elliot out of the spotlight following some pretty disastrous interviews.

After years of calling them on their lies/nonsense and showing just how ignorant their supporters are, they went and banned me.  I guess the 'final straw' was remarking on this comment (which has been left up):

So this is what the NGAC endorses w/ their supporters.  Gun control is a mental condition.

Update:  Unsurprisingly, I'm not the only one.  A number of other pro-rights commenters have been blocked/banned and countless posts removed.  Yet more like the one above remain. They are in full RD mode. 

Just Read the Thread

First read Miguel's expos'e on the Astroturf group Mom's Demand Lovin'.

Then read the comment thread that ensued after I posted it on Elliot Fineman's NG(V)AC page.

PuSH'ers will do/say anything to change the subject and act as apologists for their pet cause.

Of course this is probably more action than Elliot's seen in a long time.

Striking a Nerve

Elliot Fineman and his motley group of 'C' list PuSH'ers have a slow learning curve when it comes to interacting w/ pro-rights advocates.  In order to defend against the fact that US crime is down, they brought up the international comparison canard:

Ah.  'Developed'.  So I asked them what that meant, knowing they couldn't answer.  I got 'the list':

All but one a primarily white, European based nation.  Well they got called to task on that and responded w/ another 'list', but still no evidence.

Now most of those nations are 'developed', 'Democratic' yet have much higher crime (including gun crime) than the US and often stricter laws.  So according to Elliot's mob, only White, Democratic countries can have low violence w/ 'effective gun laws' (if you ignore Russia and most of E. Europe). When called on that they got a mite upset:

So when their racist, bigoted meme falls flat, they resort to more character attacks, nonsense statements, stereotypes and ad hominems.  And these are the people that keep demanding we have a 'conversation'.

They later tried to use some stats to 'prove' their point, but all they did was prove they don't know how to use statistics.  They posted a map of US cities compared to a bunch of foreign nations.  I kid you not.






Well all that shows is no correlation of firearm laws in the US to crime. Take a look at Baltimore, MD.
Here's the source data for their international numbers.  Note that when it comes to the rates and %'s of 'gun homicides', most of the map goes neutral as they don't actually have the info. Even the numbers they do have (Brazil, most of Northern South America and Central America) completely destroy their myth.
