The only point of firearm registration? So the authorities know where they are when they decide it's time to collect them. All they need is an excuse.
HIGH RIVER — RCMP revealed Thursday that officers have seized a
“substantial amount” of firearms from homes in the evacuated town of
High River.
“We just want to make sure that all of those things
are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,” said
Sgt. Brian Topham.
“People have a significant amount of money
invested in firearms ... so we put them in a place that we control and
that they’re safe.”
So they force the subjects out then break into their homes to take their private property.
The guns will be returned to owners after residents are allowed back in town and they provide proof of ownership, Topham added.
So their property is taken, their homes damaged to do so, and then they have to 'prove' they own it to get it back
'Reasonable', 'Common-sense' 'Gun Safety' in action.

Proof of ownership? No problem, let me just get to my records inside my destroyed home. Oh wait...
They will not even need an excuse for gradual, generational confiscation.

I know a lot of cops who are going to refuse to round up people's guns. And sadly, there are going to be violent standoffs that are not going to end well...
This is a nation that still allows themselves to be the subjects of a hereditary monarchy...
Why do they need to provide proof of ownership? The government already has the proof of ownership in the registry. That's how they knew where to go to get what.
Licensing and registration are very bad for gun owners, but there are some slight advantages that the antis want to ignore or remove. Background check? I have this license, why do I need another background check?

I notice they didn't take anyone's flatscreen, PC, Fine China, important papers, extra car, or any other number of possible 'investments.'
No, there is another reason for registration - taxation. Just like your auto registration, a yearly fee (they will call it "reasonable" and "necessary"), and fees/paperwork to transfer ownership (assuming transfers are allowed).
There is much that can be done bureaucratically once registration is mandatory. For examples, see: IRS. This is why the anti-gun crowd fights so hard for it.
