Mighty White Of You Dennis

Among all the Western, high-income nations of the world, 80 percent of gun deaths occur in the U.S., a particularly unwelcome instance of American exceptionalism.
-Dennis Henigan, Brady Campaign President
So all those 'non-Western' nations who are also 'high income' (Russian, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico) don't matter. Or at least aren't politically expedient to talk about.

Not only that, but one must also look at the different methodologies that these numbers are prepared under. For example, in the UK, a firearm death is not a homicide until someone is convicted of committing the murder. This makes the firearm homicide rate a lot lower than the similar numbers in the USA would indicate.

The numbers are worthless when cherry-picked to make a point. It's not a representative sample. Just like the "Concealed Carry Killers" crap, you can't take two negative stories and say "100% of these two misbehaved, so clearly 100% of CCW-holders are dangerous criminals."

Because our "western, high-income" nation is so "bad" about "gun death," they want to make our laws like those of "non-western/non-high-income" nations like Russia, Brazil, Mexico, and - oh, yeah - most of Central Africa. Because clearly they're doing so much better on the "gun death" issue.

Yea, it's interesting to see the mental gymnastics, caveats and qualifiers they have to go through to try to fit their completely unrelated, cherry-picked statistics, into some semblance of a "category" so that they can manufacture that tiny hint of correlation.

I wonder how long they'll be pushing this made-up turd.

Until the wring every penny out of it. And at the rate they are losing doners and members, that could be a while.

It also doesn't help that he's talking totals rather than rates.

I think the US still "wins" on that count, but at least it'd be a fairer comparison.

(Unlike Henigan, naturally, I don't think that "gun deaths" are inherently bad per se, nor do I think gang violence that uses a gun is morally worse than gang violence that uses a knife or boots to kill.)

But why 'gun deaths'?

Dead is dead. How many were murdered by other means?

After all, that is what really matters, right? The gun is a tool, just as a knife, club, pipe, car, etc..

So how many MURDERS were there?

@Paul

Because guns were DESIGNED for murder, so they posses people and cause them to do bad things, or something...
