Museum of Science & Industry

Went there when I was little and still have memories of it.  This weekend we were visiting family and decided to go out.  While 4thpower Bravo went w/ my sister and her brood down to Navy pier, the boys and I went to the museum.  Most of the pics didn't turn out but some really good ones.

Ju-87 Stuka.  One of my favorite planes of all time.

British Spitfire, getting ready to shoot down said Stuka

The U505.  Type IX German submarine from WWII. I saw the inside of this when I was a kid but they've since enclosed it and you can walk around the outside now w/ a full display.

When I went the first time, I got a little plastic mold of the sub as a souvenir. Like most boys, I played w/ it and it is long gone.  It was a mission to find the mold machine and replace it. Mission successful. Also got ones for my boys. They've been sinking eachother for hours.

Tesla coil.  Tornado and avalanche simulators. Plasma balls. Aircraft simulators.  Science displays of all kinds (we watched one on fire), the coal mine. Biology. Hatching chicks, Fiber-optics, trains, space exploration, toy manufacturing.  Just tons and tons of stuff to do and see.

Prohibited Persons and Revoking FOID Cards

Illinois has a firearm licensing sytem called FOID which is what you need to purchase, own or possess a firearm/ammo in this state.  According to state law, when one becomes a prohibited person, the police are supposed to come and take your FOID card.  We all know this doesn't regularly happen. Apparently the Cook Cnty police just discovered they're supposed to do this:
but there wasn’t a big push to do the same thing in the suburbs until now, Dart reportedly told the paper.

 The result?
According to the paper, more than 3,000 people in Cook County have failed to surrender their revoked Firearm Owners Identification Card, or FOID, which is required to legally buy guns or ammunition.
So the police fail to do their job (until now) and thousands of potentially violent, mentally unstable or straw-purchasing individuals kept their licenses. This is the same PD Chief that supports banning all sorts of firearms and making MORE requirements that the police will not enforce.
One more law would fix this, right?

Watch Those Emails

Allegedly, Oathkeeper leaders and at least on Non-MSM journalist have had attempts against them by hackers trying to put kiddy porn images on their computers.
When Rudkowski exposed the scheme, the hackers contacted him bragging about their ability to frame innocent people. They further stated they planned to frame other major figures in the alternative news business.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Any Similarities are Purely Coincidental*

Belgian collaborationist/SS Officer Leon Degrelle was once told by Hitler that "if I had a son, I would want him to be like you."

ICHV/Mark Walsh: Concealed Carry = 'Hate' & 'Violence'

So other anti-gun advocates join State Sen. Kotowski in enabling people like Mary Shepard to be victims of violent criminals like Willis Bates, released by Gov. Quinn.  Their justification is that carrying a concealed firearm somehow causes 'hate' and leads to 'violence'.  Must be through those installed mind control chips again.

From their E-mail:
Over the past few months, you have received more than a few updates from ICHV about Illinois being forced by the Courts to enact a concealed carry law during the past legislative session.  We fought hard for the most comprehensive law in the country but unfortunately came up short as the pro-gun extremists refused to accept the changes proposed by Governor Quinn’s amendatory veto
Since then I’ve been thinking about some of the crazy places we are going to start seeing people packing heat – in movie theatres, restaurants - even ones that serve alcohol and get this – in places of worship.  I mean REALLY??
I’m not the most religious person, although I got ordained to marry my sister and her husband, but I know this - there is no religion that is based on hate or violence. I know that for a lot of people a place of worship is not only a place to pray to their God in a manner they see fit - but it’s a sanctuary; a place for peace and now you have to worry about the person next to you packing heat? That’s unacceptable and just shows how out of touch the pro-gun extremists really are.
Recently, ICHV and faith leaders from across the state came together in support of Senator Dan Kotowski’s proposed legislation to keep guns out of places of worship.  Please join us and sign a petition calling on the Illinois General Assembly to pass a ban on carrying concealed loaded handguns into places of worship.
Click here to add your voice for peace in our places of worship!
Together we can make a difference.
In Peace,

Mark Walsh
Campaign Director
Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence
Basically their worldview is that noone (except the government) can be trusted and everyone is a potential criminal so those least likely to commit a crime should be disarmed. Basically they're projecting their own instability onto the public.

US Naval Power

Found this pic on FB:  (close up here and the Reagan is off to the right)

Four of the most powerful ships ever built.  All now long retired. I served on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) from '94-'98 and did work on both the Independence and Constellation. On it I went all up and down the West Coast including a week in Acapulco, Tazmania, Australia, Japan, S. Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and some time in the gulf.

Now it sits there rusting.

I feel old.

Through the looking glass...

For my own protection and yours, I must announce that everything that follows is total 100% satire…the real reason Helmke, Hennigan, and Hamm all got the boot from the Brady Bunch.

This is a transcript of a 3-way phone call between the three in early 2008.

Dennis: Hey Paul, I heard the meeting with the board didn’t go so well.
Paul: Yeah well, they want a real grass roots movement. It’s kind of ironic, really. When I came on board, they just wanted a few loyal donors with deep pockets but now I think they’re realizing that’s a liability if too many of them start viewing the organization as being ineffective. They want a broader base of support from people who have some skin in the game, namely the victims of gun violence.
Peter: Uh…poor people don’t have any money, and from a public relations stand point, they don’t come across very well in front of a camera regardless of how heartbreaking their story is. We need middle class soccer moms, white picket fences and piano lessons.
Paul: Well, the board has a different vision sad to say.
Dennis: And that would be?
Paul: Sarah said she managed to contact the POTUS soon after the election and pitch our 100 day plan proposal. Despite his passion, he was hesitant to start off his legacy with this issue but promised to load his cabinet with the who’s who of gun control and let nature take it‘s course when the opportunity presented itself. He also planted the idea seed of collecting $5 from a million people rather than 1 million from 5 people.
Peter: We’ve tried that before and it didn’t work.
Dennis: Well it doesn’t have to be either/or, we need revenue from every possible source.
Peter: And we need it to sell well in front of a camera.
Paul: I agree, which is why the board’s plan might actually work. We hide behind the rich, make money off the poor and scare everyone who’s in the middle.

?????????????????????????????????????????????

Paul: We’re going to start selling guns to criminals.
Dennis: Come again, Paul?
Peter: Say what?

Paul: Hear me out; as soon as cabinet level appointments are made, we’ll have some unspoken assurances that the Justice Dept, the State Dept and the ATF will shield us from any liability. We make money, gun violence increases and the middle class will scream for more gun laws; it’s the only way.

Heidi Yewman Remains Stupid and Ignorant

Remember her, the Brady Campaign/NGAC board member who went out of her way to be as dangerous as possible?

Well the month is over and luckily she didn't kill anyone.  Her article, filled w/ crap statistics (Kellerman? Really?), stupidity, and ignorance, is best summed up in this paragraph:
I thought the gun would make me feel more powerful, more confident, and less fearful. I was wrong. All I felt was fear. Physically taking the gun out of the safe and putting it in a holster on my hip literally reminded me that I was going out into a big bad scary unsafe world. There were days when I put the gun back in the safe and stayed home because it simply took too much energy to be scared. It was easier to be at home without the worry and responsibility of being “the good guy with the gun.” My awareness of looming tragedy was abundant. If I had to pull the trigger, my life, the person I shot, both of our families, and all who witnessed it would be changed forever.
Here's the rub.  She had all these issues of fear and paranoia BEFORE carrying a gun.  All the gun did was give her a focus and an excuse for it.

So all she proved to the world is that she really is as much of an idiot as all those gun owning bullies thought and that anti-gun advocates should be prevented from owning firearms.

Now compare and contrast Ms. Yewman to Emily Miller, a strong woman who used her brain and didn't endanger people to prove a political point.  Miller was also attacked as an 'amateur centerfold', 'juvenile' and 'fool' by the anti-gun fanatics.
