Farts in the Wind

Using fears created by the media to try and ban/restrict guns is nothing new for gun control advocates. The current ones are 'terrorist loopholes' and 'gun show loopholes'.

Back in the 80's, one of the ones were 'plastic guns'. The media went around proclaiming that Glock was manufacturing handguns made entirely out of plastic for the sole purpose of evading detection. Anyone w/ a clue knows this is nonsense so of course congress had to pass a law against this non-existent threat in 1988 (and was renewed by Clinton in 1998).

Well in 2003, this 'reasonable, common-sense' law was due to sunset again so the usual suspects introduced another renewal. The VPC thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread since they could use it to renew the fear of this ghost gun:
the gun industry was on the verge of manufacturing handguns that could evade airport security equipment.
Doubtful.
If Congress fails to renew the ban, air travelers will face the threat of being held hostage to a new generation of undetectable handguns. In the name of "homeland security,"
That was 2003. Eight years later the ban was not renewed and not a single 'undetectable handgun' has been produced. Not a single 'air traveler' has faced this 'threat'.

With all the claims by Josh Sugarmann et al. that the 'gun industry' is determined to make their fortunes over the bodies of dead children by arming terrorists, you'ld think that they'ld have dusted off those old plans that they were 'on the verge of manufacturing' within days of the ban expiring.

Or the VPC et al were full of sh!t. Which is more likely?

I'm still waiting for those armor piercing hollow points, and those heat seeking incendiary rounds have been on back order forever!

On another note, I've sometimes wondered if ceramics could possibly replace the steel components of a Glock. My guess is it would only survive a few shots if that. Since it lacks the malleability of a metal, it would probably shatter pretty quickly.

I am surprised they haven't tried to ban Phasers- certainly those capable of being set to modes other than "stun".

Interesting point about this. We don’t hear much from them about plastic guns anymore (VPC aside). Glock is the most popular LEO sidearm, and nearly every handgun manufacturer makes a polymer framed model. Is this what it finally takes for them to get off an issue? I await the day that “assault weapons” meet a similar fate.

I'm switching over to the Plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. In the mean time, I'll just continue to fly with my PD flame thrower. The VPC is populated by a bunch of hysterics. A little Ativan would go a long way to ending their antics.
