Missing the forest...

Over on "wheredidthegunscomefrom", Bob S. asked ""Do you support Jane Doe, the Oregon school teacher who is trying to get approval to carry a concealed weapon into the classroom?"

Nancy replied:

Bob, I support keeping guns out of the hands of the teacher's ex-husband who has a restraining order against him. I support efforts to disarm the people who are a threat to others to prevent violent encounters, death and injury.

Nancy

Well Nancy, that's what's known as a logical fallacy. Not only did you not answer the question, you changed the topic.

So I asked:

As do we, but who's going to watch the ex-husband 24/7? Who's going to take the responsibility/accountability for "Jane Doe's" safety?

And MATH did the same thing:

We wouldn't have to watch the ex-husband 24-7 if we kept a better watch on gun sales and distribution.

Guns start out as a legal product. Somehow in this country, thousands of guns are diverted to illegal markets. How is that happening? Where do crime guns originate?

If we solve the problem at that end, we don't have to worry about ex-husbands with restraining orders being able to access guns.

Not only is that completely avoiding the question and changing the topic again, it's making lots of false assumptions as well. It assumes that a gun is the only way the Ex can violate a restraining order and threaten Jane Doe. It assumes that the measures they propose will guarantee no one ever committing a crime w/ a gun again.

So I'll ask again. Who's going to accept responsibility/accountability for the safety of Jane Doe? Will MATH do it? Will Nancy? The School?

Let's see if my reply gets posted.

Great post and reply at her site. I wouldn't count on seeing your reply posted. She has not used but a few of the comments I've posted.

I posted a follow up this afternoon, I would like to post it hear so we can see if she is willing to respond or will not.

Thanks Bob

Nancy,

I thought I remembered you saying something a little different on an earlier posting.

"Let me say right off the bat—we’re NOT trying to take guns away from lawful citizens. In fact, we’d like to clone gun owners who store and maintain guns safely." (Asking "Where did the gun come from?" can prevent most shootings" August 10, 2007)

Is the teacher a lawful citizen or not? If so, why aren't you supporting her right to carry a firearm for her protection. Removing guns from everyone else doesn't mean she's safe.

As far the argument about storing guns, isn't a firearms carried on a person daily less likely to be stolen then one left at home? This should greatly advance your cause of reducing crime guns. Firearms being stolen is one of the illegal ways criminals obtain weapons.

The hypocrisy there is overwhelming. I've posted several times on the "real 2A" thread and none have made it through yet.
