Goodbye Photobucket

Been using it as my primary image host for years. Now they've blocked 'hotlinking' and want to charge me $400/yr for the privilege.

Time to find a new service.

Imgur isn't bad and since you use the Googles, Google photos is a no brainier.

I've been generally happy with Flickr. It remains to be seen what the Verizon acquisition of Yahoo! does to it.

Angus, Flickr is supposedly going away.

There's a lot of panic going on, but nothing announced yet.

That's the problem with "free" services. "Nice [data, blog, photos, videos, etc] you've got'd be a shame if anything happened to it".

They basically own your stuff so if they decide to change things up on you, you're screwed.

I refuse to use Google products (the recent news that they've donated large sums to anti-gun groups is no surprise) so when Google bought blogspot, I bailed.

It was a pain in the butt to move everything, but it was worth the effort and the little bit per month for a paid hosting service. All my photos, videos, posts etc are in one place that gets backed up regularly and can easily be restored somewhere else if my current hosting service gets froggy on me...which is less likely with a paid service because I'm the customer...I'm not the product being sold for advertising.

The sudden removal of 3rd party hosting means that a WHOLE lot of my past work is now without graphics.

I can't tell you how much I hate this.
