All Your Gun Lobby Belong To Us

In a comment thread regarding how to increase the percentage of firearm owners belonging to various firearm rights organizations, this comment was made:
That is because those organizations idealogy deal more than about guns, when that stops, I know a lof of people, including myself, that would consider.
Note it wasn't just the NRA that was mentioned but the SAF, etc.

I asked for a clarification on just what non-gun 'ideologies' were being dealt with.

Several days later, on a different thread discussing McDonald and Sotomayer, this same individual replied:
you asked about idealogy and the NRA, read the above comments...when talking about gun rights we should stick to gun rights.
Now note how the goalposts got moved to mentioning ONLY the NRA and claiming that the comments from a few individuals, some of whom were members, represented the 'ideology' of the entire organization.

We see this mentality fairly often. Anything even remotely associated with firearms is under the guise and control of the NRA. Laura Washington and her 'wheelbarrows full of cash' meme was a prime example. Back in June we had Snuffy protesting the NRA at an event that the NRA wasn't even present at nor affiliated with.

So are these alleged people just completely unaware of the dozens of other national and state groups that are also available to gun owners or are the arguments against gun ownership so weak that the only thing they can do is lump all of the groups together into one big ad hominem boogeyman? A little of both? Neither? What?

How can we inform the general gun owning public of their choices and encourage them to become members of (at least) the organization that fits their personal firearm ideology whether it be NRA or GOA?

Trailer - For starters, great post, however a corrected title should read "All your Gun Lobby ARE belong to us"... but an A+ for effort :)

Jesting aside, to answer your question about NRA membership, we need an ad council, constant public education and awareness campaigns, and incentives to join that go beyond a black duffle bag. The media and leftward broadcasts have made gun-ownership a "hush-hush" because guns are, of course, bad! We need public education about the rights, about safety, and about tradition... a public ad campaign may be expensive, but unless we can get more exposure and educate the masses, the Lobbies are good for only fighting battles in DC.

And when I say ad campaign, i dont mean a buy into the Outdoor network... I mean NBC primetime... stream it right into the cerebral cortex of liberal lefties, their children, and a few conservative gun-owners who are sharing in the trash tv.

I too have come to the belief that those against us have made us live with their stereotype - and although a fine proud Life Member of the NRA, I don't drag anyone to them ever, for what I love about shooting and such isn't really under their umbrella for a fellow like me. Blame me, don't blame the NRA, they have some excellent programs and opportunities. I do believe that Americans will only win, when we can say honestly that I have been shooting this week, safely, and I made sure every shot counted. So go get those that can't say that, line up the firearms, the ammunition and the instructors and keep building, otherwise those not so wise will always comprise the rifleman's demise.

I'm going to start my own gun rights organization. It's going to be a lot like GOA, except that it's going to be called MOA. I just haven't figured out what the M stands for yet.

My big advice about any Lobby group is to talk about people's misunderstanding of our type of government.

I personally think they intentionally ingrain kids with the idea that we are somehow a democracy to get people pumped about elections, but keep them disinterested and uninvolved in politics.

The average American should be taking time out of their day to read proposed legislation, and to write letters of support or opposition to said legislation.

If you care about an issue, but feel you can't keep up with all of that, your only hope is to join a PAC or Lobby. By Joining a group you will gain some power with the strength in numbers principal, but you will also loose much of your individuality from it, as no group will 100% agree with you, and you'll have to compromise.

But unless you want to do all the work on your own, joining a group is your only hope to be involved in the Republic.

And I totally disagree...

It should be about our second amendment rights, not just gun rights.

Knife, swords, lasers, yet to be inventeds.
