" Gun control, we’re not talking about banning all guns. We know that guns are not going to be banned outright, but “moderate gun control” means people who own guns should have to have a license. Guns should be registered. It means ensuring that certain categories of guns are not available to private citizens or to people who haven’t had particular training and who are not subject to military or official discipline.and
"We recognise that hunting, for example, plays an important role in many cultures.
We recognise that target shooting is also a sport in many countries."That's comforting. They're not after our guns. But wait. Rebecca also said this about target shooters and hunters in England:
“I’m sad for you. I suppose if you miss your sport, take up another sport. Take up a sport that does not require a weapon invented for the sole and specific purpose of killing another human being.”We also all know what she said about what kind of 'hunting rifles' should be allowed.
Well those statements are pretty contradictory, aren't they? Maybe she just was confused. Let's take a look at the IANSA website to see what kind of 'common-sense' regulations' the do support.
Brazilian gun referendum approaches: a historic opportunity to make people safer from gun violenceOh, well that's OK. We all want to make people safer. Let's read some more...
On 23 October 2005, Brazilians will be able to vote in a radical referendum that is without precedent in the world: to choose if civilians should be allowed to buy guns.Wait a minute here. IANSA organized and supported a campaign to BAN ALL CIVILIAN SALES OF FIREARMS.
But that's not really a 'ban' right? You can still keep the ones you have (for now). You can just never sell, transfer, or effectively use it and it will be destroyed when you die or decide to get rid of it.
LEt's look at a few of the other measures that went along w/ the bill besides the referendum.
Obigatory National Firearms database
universal registration w/ renewals at least every three years
Demonstrated 'need' for a firearms.
Psychological tests.
'Competency' tests.
Ammo Serialization
Ammo limitations to 50 rnds/yr.
Ban on toy guns
Gun 'Buybacks'
Why those are the same kinds of laws the Brady Campaign wants passed here in the US.
But they're two distinct and separate organizations, right?
Right?

if only it were as easy as my proposed Cash for Carbines idea. The government should be arming the people... not threatening a forced disarming... Hmm... that is, of course, supposing that the government intended to act in accordance with the will of the people instead of ruling the people... hmmm...
Dear Rebeccda & IANSA,
RE: " Gun control, we’re not talking about banning all guns."
Tell that to the Aussies.
I'll wait for a reply. . . .
