I think you’re on to something – only it’s the inverse:
Violent people are anti-gun.
They know that because of their own violent tendencies they can’t be trusted with guns. Then they assume that everyone else is no different from themselves. Therefore, no one can be trusted with guns. As a result of this “reasonable (in their own minds) deduction” no one should be allowed to have guns. Which leads to the inevitable conclusion that “there oughtta be a law.”
Then the set out to enact just such a law because they think it will keep them safe from themselves as well as everyone else they assume to be no different from themselves.
And once such laws are enacted, the next step the antis take is to identify "loop holes" in that law as justification for passing even more new laws and "strengthening" the old ones.
The end result is we have less freedom, less patience and alot of guns.
