Doublespeak

Shutting down neighborhoods, searching all vehicles, and arbitrarily deciding whether you have a "legitimate reason" to be there is now:

"A positive pattern of [police] checking things"

The sheep bleated:

Some residents expressed support for the plan yesterday, saying they are willing to submit to the checks if it makes the neighborhood safer.

Obviously not a student of history:

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.
-Benjamin Franklin

So, who is going to be the first person to file suit for a violation of the 4th Ammendment.

--The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.--

Any bets on which side the ACLU will be on?

You know what would make this all easier? If those who live in this particular wore some kind of distinctive mark so the police would know that they were locals, and thus not hold them up... Or maybe the police could categorize people as they went through the checkpoint, and give them appropriate badges/patches... Certainly would make the peace officers' lives easier.

... Yes, that was a snark, and God help us all if it comes to pass.

what gets me is the amount of officers you'd surely need to cordon off a whole neighborhood, and the thought of what all that manpower might do by just cruising --- no, walking! --- through the same neighborhood instead of closing it off to access. this isn't just un-American, it's stupid.
