Alternate questions Part II

The GSS packet. Also funded by the Joyces.

1. Non-licensed individuals are prevented from accessing the background check system due to the Brady Law.How strongly do you favor or oppose a law that allowed private gun sales to have the same access as licensed dealers? Do you strongly favor, favor, neither favor nor oppose, oppose,
or strongly oppose?

2. Should penalties for knowingly selling guns to a prohibited person be tougher, less though, or about as tough as penalties for illegally selling drugs? Unknowingly selling?

3. Should semi-automatic firearms commonly used in competitive sports and hunting
be sold to the general public or should their sales be limited to the military and police?

4. As a result of the 9/11 terrorists being able to commit their crimes against defenseless passengers, do you think that gun control laws should be stricter, making it harder for people to purchase firearms or that gun control laws should be less strict, making it easier for people to purchase firearms?

5. Although few crimes have ever been committed in the US and no deaths resulting, some states are trying to ban .50 caliber target rifles from civilian ownership.
Should such rifles be 1) restricted only to the police and military, or 2)
available to civilians like standard target rifles as they are at present?

6. In all states it is illegal to drive with a BAC of .08. Would you favor or
oppose state laws making it illegal to carry a firearm while legally drunk?

7. Would you favor or oppose a law which would allow police to arbitrarily decide who could own a firearm?

I suggest a pro-gun organization submit these questions as a packet to the GSS (along w/ the required bribe) so we can compare the results and then watch as the PuSH'ers climb all over each other trying to discredit it as "biased".

Nice, when the sources you quote are yourself,

National Gun Policy Survey (NGPS), 2001: The NGPS is a random digit dialing sample
of adults living in households with telephones. Sample size was 1,176 in 2001. For more
details, see Smith, 2001. The NGPS was funded by the Joyce Foundation.

Did any one notice Tom the author of the NORC report quotes his own propaganda? to support the conclusions.

Yea real credible.

Melody

Alternate questions.

A significant portion of the NORC firearms report is based off of leading questions authored by the Joyce Foundation. I propose these alternate questions for the NGPS Survey.

New NGPS Survey questions:

1. Do you think that mandatory gun-safety training should or should not be required for
anyone to buy a gun if that training is made readily accessible? If made difficult to obtain?

2. Would you favor or oppose a law which would a person to obtain police/government permission before being allowed to purchase a firearm?

3. Many localities are attempting to bankrupt and close firearm dealers through civil lawsuits. How strongly would you favor or oppose a law mandating all firearm sales to go through firearm dealers only? Favor or Oppose a law allowing non-licensed individual access to the background check system?

4. Knowing that registration offices have been closed down, preventing any further licenses, Do you favor or oppose the mandatory registration of handguns and pistols?

For each of the following statements, please tell me if you strongly agree, agree, disagree,
or strongly disagree?

1. The government should do everything it can to keep repeat violent offenders in prison, even if it means lengthening sentences or denying parole.

2. Engineers are now designing handguns equipped with devices which can recognize the
owner of a gun and not fire for anyone else. This technology has not been yet perfected and is opposed by police agencies for their service firearms. Please tell me if you would strongly favor, favor, oppose, or strongly oppose a law mandating these features on firearms for civilians?

3. Which of the following would you most favor to regulate the sale of handguns:
Check on a buyer's criminal record and have a five-day restriction on buying
a handgun.
Check on a buyer's criminal record instantly and restriction the five-day delay
on buying a handgun.
Neither check on a buyer's criminal record nor have a five-day restriction on
buying a handgun.

4. Do you favor or oppose requiring gun owners to prove to the authorities that they still own their revolvers or handguns on a yearly basis ?

5. Some states have passed laws limiting handgun sales to one per month per customer.
Some people favor these laws as a way to limit the number of firearms an individual can own. Other people oppose these laws as they have never been shown to reduce crime or trafficking. Do you strongly favor, favor, oppose, or strongly oppose a law that prohibits citizens from
buying more than one handgun per month?

6. Which of these views comes closer to your own? Legal restrictions on the sale and
ownership of handguns are too strict and should be relaxed/Existing restrictions on the
sale and ownership of handguns are sufficient now/There should be a total ban on handgun ownership/ Prohibited individuals should be punished more severely for illegal ownership of handguns and longarms .

7. Most states require a special license to allow people to carry a concealed firearm. Should
licenses to carry concealed firearms be issued to any adult who has passed a criminal
background check and a gun safety course or should they be required to prove they have a need for one to the police?

8. Which of these views comes closer to your own? Legal restrictions on the sale and
ownership of handguns are too strict and should be relaxed/Existing restrictions on the
sale and ownership of handguns are sufficient now/No new handguns should be
manufactured or imported, but current legal owners could keep their handguns./ Police should monitor restricted individuals more closely for criminal activity.

I'll do the GSS questions in a few days.

Reasoned Discourse in VA

On MLK day, the MMM, Virginia Center for Public Disarmament (safety), and protesteasyguns.com held a "lie" in. Hundreds of pro-rights individuals showed up to counter their efforts. Over on Youtube, they posted a heavily edited video attacking not only the 2A but also the 1st Amendment rights of those opposing them. To keep people from noting the numerous fallacies contained in it, such as that closing the "Gun Show Loophole" would have stopped Cho from obtaining firearms, they've disabled comments. This of course follows their tradition of trying to silence the opposition when the facts don't fit their agenda. Other fine examples are the Brady Blog, Josh Sugarmann, Robyn Ringler, Alex Riley, JadeGold, Nancy Robinson (wheredidthegunsfrom) and Bryan Miller. All of whom have either shut down their comments, deleted and even edited posts, to stop the truth.

VCDL, however, has posted a more complete video of the event while SailorCurt has firsthand accounts.

Quotations From Melody

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
Edmund Burke

Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.

This is the law

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental. As John Steinbeck once said :

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall.

5. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away. (but shoot first anyway, then call 911)

6. A reporter did a human interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?". The Ranger responded with, "Because they don't make a .46."

7. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

8. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "NO Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle." (Winchester Model 94 30-30 Cal. and loaded with Winchester Silver Tips, no doubt).

9. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

AMEN!

To this I will add my comments. I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. To which I said I did. She said "well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!" To which I said, "of course it is loaded." She then asked, "Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?" My reply was,"No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching afire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and THEY ARE ALL LOADED."

I wonder if Obama swims?

Its official Teddy (Hic) Kennedy endorses Obama, I am so excited I could spit. I sometime wonder what is happening in a world where a drunken murder is held in high esteem. Or for that matter a creation of the media with no track record is even considered to obtain the highest office in the land. But I look at the eight years of Slick Willy I guess I have my answer. I actually read a liberal written piece actually questioning the accomplishments of slick Willy. Would appear the left is actually “eating themselves” could we be that lucky?

I started the book "Day of Reckoning", by Pat Buchanan; I have been so busy of late I have not been able to get in to it. He paints a bleak future for the democracy; one can hope he is wrong. Naomi Wolf agrees with him, and penned "The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot", another book on Melody’s pile TBD.

On the bright side I do remain optimistic when I see people coming out to stand up for the Second Amendment. I find humor when I hear a few whack jobs in south armpit Vermont want to arrest Bush for war crimes. Hey I don’t Love the guy, but the little hole called Brattleboro, basically is just a symbol that you’re “Out of the Peoples republic of Massachusetts”, and you can mash the peddle to the floor and be at Stowe in a and hour and change. Brattleboro is dead and just does not want to admit it. Truth be known the inhabitances of this little back water hole are proving that pot does kill brain cells, lots of them! So roll another fat one guys.

Well kids, wish me luck big meeting tomorrow, maybe I can get back helping you all hammer our Anti-Freedom friends.

More NORC fisking...

To further strengthen the argument that the NORC report is biased in it's conclusions on firearms, I did even more research into the data sets and variables used. Just to make sure. Jadetroll, in his usual SOP, claimed I didn't even read the report (even though I quoted and sourced it) and that they "controlled" for the differences in population for their report. When asked for these variables they used, he did his usual avoidances. Why would he do that you ask? Because of pages listing this on the GSS:

Dataset: General Social Surveys, 1972-2006 [Cumulative File]
Loading...
Regression analysis:
Dependent variable:
No dependent variable added
Independent variable:
No independent variable added

Listwise correlation analysis: [Change to pairwise]
Variables:

No variables added

Double checking the data sets here and here, the report percentages are based off of straight response numbers. No controlling for population or variables. So their claim that "

"As Figure 2 shows gun ownership has been declining over the last 35 years" is disingenuous at best and shows that there is reason to suspect this packet as politically biased as they base their conclusions off of other biased surveys.

The Modern Militia

Via Sear & Hammer, I was pointed to a post by Clayton Cramer showing how the Unorganized Militia was called into service as recently as WWII in Alaska, Oregon, and Maryland. Citizen Volunteers, not eligible for Army service, were organized to prepare defenses against potential Japanese and German aggression due to the fact that the National Guard was called into Federal service outside of their respective states.

These men were to be used as a first defense against paratroops and saboteurs in their local areas and to provide a guerrilla force against a large scale invasion as snipers, scouts, and raiders. Many of them were expected to provide their own weapons and equipment.

Thousands heeded the call.

Illinois Roundup..

Pro-Second Amendment resolutions are now up to 65 counties passed w/ and additional 3 proposed. The current map is here.

Armed and Safe reports that Cook County Commissioner Beaver has allegedly withdrawn his gun ban/registration proposal that includes all firearms.

IGOLD 2008 is set for March 11. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend due to family obligations.

SaysUncle found a report that Commissioner Larry Suffredin is a paid lobbyist for the Illinois Citizens for Handgun Control. He claims that there is no conflict yet at the same time he is proposing gun control ordinances and referring them to the committee he chairs.

In the Illinois legislature, a whole plethora of anti-gun bills has been thrown up against the wall hoping that some of it sticks as per PuSH'er SOP. Some of these bills are identical to eachother w/ bill numbers and sponsors being the only differences :

SB1007 Magazine Ban : Anything over 10 rounds. Grandfathered so completely useless.

SB1915 ONE GUN PER MONTH

SB1919 HANDGUN DEALER LICENSING ACT

HB0758 FOID CARD ACT- Bans Private Sales

HB4217 CRIM CD- Mandates programs for gun amnesty/turn-ins for all County Sheriff's offices.

HB4269 AMMUNITION ENCODING- Not Microstamping, but bullet and casing serialization. Includes a 5 cent/ round tax. defacto ban.

HB4349 AMMUNITION ENCODING -Same as above. Some different sponsors.

HB4258 & HB4259 AMMUNITION ACCOUNTABILITY- Two identical bills by the same sponsor. Effectively the same as the Ammo Encoding bills above but w/ some different wording and provisions.

HB4321 CRIM CD-UNLAWFUL USE-WEAPON Assisted Knife- Switchblade ban w/ "Only Ones" exceptions.

HB4357 ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN
- The usual. Includes .50 cal and Hi cap magazine ban.

HB4393 ONE GUN PER MONTH

HB4541 HANDGUN DEALER LICENSING ACT

It's going to be an interesting year.

JadeGold wants some attention.

In a post over on Bryan's blog, JadeGold (Guy Cabot) claims that the NORC Firearms study wasn't funded by the Joyce Foundation. Perhaps he should actually try reading the study:

Appendix: Surveys
General Social Survey (GSS), 1972-2006: The GSS is a full-probability sample of adults
living in households in the United States using in-person interviews. For more details, see
Davis, Smith, and Marsden, 2007. GSS gets its main funding from the National Science
Foundation. The added questions on the regulation of firearms in 2006 were supported by a grant from the Joyce Foundation.
National Gun Policy Survey (NGPS), 2001: The NGPS is a random digit dialing sample
of adults living in households with telephones. Sample size was 1,176 in 2001. For more
details, see Smith, 2001. The NGPS was funded by the Joyce Foundation.

Since the GSS is operated by NORC, guess what dumbass? It's funded by the Joyce Foundation.

He then goes on to claim that they "controlled" for differences in population. I'm sure I'll keep waiting for evidence of this when they state that it's based off of percentages of population. There's a reason they used percentages instead of total numbers. It's due to bias. I've shown mine, now we'll wait for JadeGuy to show his. So far all he's done is thrown out his usual insults w/o backing up his assertions.

Quote from CavTrooper:

It's not just that Joyce Fdn gave NORC money, it's that they authored gun-related questions used in collecting data in the survey.

Similar to how the Joyce Fdn authored an anti-gun policy statement published under the name of the National Association of Chiefs of Police last year...shortly after making a six-figure donation to pave the way.

That thud you hear is their credibility, as well as what little remains of yours, hitting the deck.

Following a fine example...

Mayors Against Illegal Guns member Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been caught following the fine example in politics set by former President Bill Clinton. Apparently he lied under oath about a relationship w/ someone other than his wife. At least Kilpatrick set his sights a little higher than an intern and instead diddled his Chief of Staff.

And what was this case about that he lied during you ask. Why it was in regards to him firing two officers that were looking into allegations against his security unit.

Such a fine following Mayor Bloomberg has.

The Zumbo that is the DOJ

While it took a little while, the Brady Bunch has jumped on the DOJ Amicus Brief like a crack-whore shown a $20.

The funniest part is this:

"Do we really want judges making those decisions rather than democratically-elected legislative bodies?"

Can we say Weinstein?

Paul, if you're going to be a disingenuous, hypocritical prick, at least try not to be so obvious about it.

BTW. I notice you no longer have the "Sites linking to this page" function up. I wonder why:

The Truth Coming Out...

Bryan Miller, after proclaiming my post about PATH member support for complete gun bans to be "increasingly shrill claims and attempts to smear with some bizarre and incoherent 'guilt by association' notion" admits to the truth. Both the Brady Campaign and CeaseFire NJ have filed Amicus briefs in support of the DC Handgun ban.

Interestingly enough, he's honest enough to use a qualifier when discussing possible future intentions of CF NJ:

"Ceasefire NJ does not currently support a New Jersey state handgun ban"

Meaning to say that they are not opposed to supporting one in the future. They're just not calling for one right now.

So my "shrill, repetative, and purposely disingenuous" post was, infact, completely accurate. If it's "repetative", it's only because it's in response to the constantly regurgitated mis-information (ie. lies) endlessly repeated by groups like Ceasefire, VPC, and the Brady Campaign.

You're right Bryan, it is your bad. Don't worry, though, we'll be here to correct your mistakes.

Bryan Miller: Issues w/ the truth

In a response on his blog, Bryan once again distances himself from Prof. Riley and claims that the Brady Campaign, et al. do NOT support the DC handgun ban:

"~Second, as to thirdpower's increasingly shrill claims and attempts to smear with some bizarre and incoherent 'guilt by association' notion...whatever the personal views of individuals in various organizations with which I may or may not be acquainted, none of the following organizations, falsely cited by thirdpower, calls for "complete handgun bans" - Ceasefire NJ, CeaseFire PA, the PATH (Pennsylvanians Against Trafficking Handguns) Coalition, the Brady Campaign. Repetitive and purposeful disingenuousness on thirdpower's part will never make it so."

To bad the BC own website and briefs tell a different story as they are doing everything in their power to uphold the ban. Bryan convieniently words his post to imply that the BC are not associated w/ PATH. A quick look at thier website shows differently:

http://www.pathcoalition.org/

Update: Bryan has recognized his error on the views and standings of the Brady Campaign and has apologized. Now he just needs to recognize the views endorsed by at least one Board Member of CeaseFire PA.

His recent entry brings up (again) the Joyce Foundation funded NORC report emphasizing the Myth of Decreasing Gun Owners which I ( and pretty much every other thinking individual) has skewered as a mere dream of the PuSH'ers.

http://blog.nj.com/njv_bryan_miller/2008/01/gun_ownership_declining_in_us.html

Obviously Bryan CAN make these things up.

I want one.

12 ga tasers.

The perfect thing to complement the pepper rounds and ball rounds I currently keep loaded in Betsy. To bad their only authorized for "Only Ones". I sure they'll use them responsibly.

What are they really afraid of?

WaronGuns has a post about a NY legislator trying to regulate, of all things, Geiger Counters. Why would they possible use to justify this? Just like w/ .50 cals, a scenario that hasn't happened but "might" :

"Our mutual goal is to prevent false alarms"

What are their most likely real goals?

"He and his colleagues will try to accommodate all the concerns when they redraft the bill, he said, but one way or another, the cops are going to have this new power."

Why do they want to know where they are and regulate them? Because they're afraid that people might discover the truth:

"When the Environmental Protection Agency promised that the air surrounding Ground Zero was safe, Vallone said, independent testers proved that such assurances were utterly false."

They want people to be utterly dependent on the Gov't and to rely on "official" information for their safety. Nevermind the fact that the error rate of any Gov't agency is higher than anything people would tolerate from a civilian company or organization. Also, as is typical of legislators, he realized that his proposal would cause issues, yet he cared so much that he tried to fast-track the law even w/ the problems:

"When I was first given a briefing only weeks ago, the potential problems did occur to me,"

With this type of nanny-state mentality, I can almost guarantee what his voting record is on firearms.

Anti-Defamation League defames firearm owners..

Apparently all firearm owners are "violent bigots" according to their press release in support of the DC gun ban:

"The League urged the Court to ensure that states retain the ability to keep guns out of the hands of "violent bigots."

http://www.adl.org/PresRele/SupremeCourt_33/5207_33.htm

The follow the collectivist view even though no historical evidence supports it. And they call others extremist.

Paul's Rant Response II

As we all know, Paul wants to close the "Gun Show Loophole" by making all sales go through FFL dealers. At the same time, they advocate lawsuits against said dealers and the BATFE is closing down as many as they can showing their true agenda. I ask again this simple question:

Would the Brady Campaign support Non-FFL access to NICS for private sales?

Yes or no?

Not like it matters. Arms and the Law reports the VA bill died in committee. VT parents are "upset" even though Cho didn't go to a show nor used a private sale. The Brady's must feel proud lying to these people like they are and writing these bills in the blood of the victims.

Friday, January 18, 2008

A response to Paul's latest,

Paul,

Another insult to the intelligence of the world at large, closing the gun show loop-hole exactly how is this going to reduce crime? With the rational that the Brady Bunch uses to justify absurd laws such as this, they could toss in that this law will brighten teeth, Cure bad breath caused by gingivitis. As with most of the anti-freedom, diatribes it is simple conjured, made up of the stuff of dreams, some star dust, a little “Open pit Barbecue” sauce, and a fart!

Paul tosses in a hyperlink to a NORC/ University of Chicago what an un-bias report. Basically Paul and his buddies wrote it themselves and dropped it on a shill, Paul the truth is out there and everybody’s already seen it after hearing the Second Amendment verbatim, 73 percent said it guarantees the right to individual gun ownership. (ABCNEWS Poll) So what’s your next move Paul, new and better lies?

“All the same, I have read reports that some Virginia Delegates plan to spurn the Virginia Tech families, ignore the evidence, and stubbornly refuse to close the gun show loophole.” Paul you really are sick and sadistic, you were out of the shoot right after the VT tragedy attempting to solicit money. Who really spurns the families?
