I'm perfectly willing to believe it, myself - it's not like there's EVER a time when someone can't "question the timing", and the FBI and the like are always looking at such things, and more-or-less regularly stopping them.
Even if it was meant as a distraction, it can't possibly work as one.

Apparently the administration has been aware of this plot since June of this year. "Wag The Dog", anyone?
