Virtually all of the guns turned in Saturday at Uptown aren’t the kind likely to be used to commit crimes.
“There’s not a functional gun in the lot,” said Sgt. Alex Silva, a 23rd District CAPS officer.
And that folks, says it all about the effectiveness of these turn-ins.

LOL Can't get a dime out of them from the dealers so they wait till the Buy Backs to get something out of them. Not everyone is as stupid as they appear.
Unsurprising, yet annoying.
They just had one here in Long Beach, and the same thing happened. On the editorial page of the local newspaper, several people wrote in questioning whether these buy-backs are doing any good, and several of them made remarks wondering how many *criminals* turned their guns!
But as MikeB might say, one of those Grand mother's grandbabies might be playing around in the house and find the gun...and also find a lathe and some bar stock with some files. Maybe a small arc welder, and restore these guns to working order...then use the lathe to turn out some brass...melt some lead soldiers (which are toxic and granny shouldn't let the young kids play with them!) and size up some bullets and then shoot themselves...or give them to a gang member!
So in the end, how can ANYBODY reasonable opposes this sensible program??????
