So Quinn has proposed a 1% income tax increase to go towards education. Yet every time extra money's been earmarked for schools in the past, other money has been removed. This time will be no different:
(ISP Spokesman) Monken said later that if the legislature approves the 1 percentage point increase in the state income tax Quinn has requested for education, some funds could be freed up for other agencies.I've had people tell me it should be more. So their idea is to give MORE money to a body that has shown they can't manage what they have? Would someone please explain to me the logic behind that?
Update: Florida has the right idea.

He takes lessons from the dot fed gov.
Aren't they the ones who have had US (the people) put money into SocSec for decades, and then declare that the fund is insolvent? Why? Because the dot fed gov puts the money, not into SocSec, but the General Fund, which it continually raids for every payoff and pork project.
Any questions?

You hit me with this and this morning on the FRONT PAGE of my Chicago tribune is a story that the CPS is finally going to cut Nachos from its menu to only once a week in HS and once a month in grade school.

Geez lets get our priorities straight.
Nacho's for the innocent children or CHIPS on illinois highways! How about a pay cut on our legislators?
They use the "It's for the Children!" crap here in Oregon every single year, despite already having the state lottery funds dedicated to education.
They just passed back to back tax measures which were voted against by 90% of the geographical areas, but because the two major cities are full of bleeding heart suckers, the measures passed, making Oregon highest in the nation for personal income and capital gains taxes.
I feel your pain.
