Criminalize the Victims.

The IL House Executive puppets Committee have passed a slurry of amendments to a shell bill (HB2670) to make it a criminal offense if your firearm is stolen and you don't report it.

Here is a list of legislators that could vote either way and are getting pushed hard by the anti's. Make your calls folks.

At least Alderman Mell won't have to worry about it--even if his ordinance doesn't pass. The Fifth Amendment will protect him from a law that would force him to incriminate himself for his illegal firearms.

Well, both amendments (HA 1, requiring reporting loss or theft to the state police; and HA 2, requiring reporting loss or theft to the local police--I guess they want gun owners to tell everyone) were adopted this evening.

It was a thin reed, but I had been holding out a bit of hope that the amendments would be rejected, and we wouldn't have to worry about this. Now, killing the bill is the only hope.
