My Childhood Lied To Me....

The only thing that 'The Hill' is doing that even remotely resembles this is making decisions behind closed doors. We need to 'Deem & Pass' these idiots right out the door.

And they wonder why there's little respect for the system.

What media bias?

6000+ people march in Springfield for gun rights. Media response? One or two local stations cover it.

100 or so people protest guns they know nothing about. Media response? Pretty much every major Chicago station covers it.

Yet what does Chicago style gun control get them?

15 people shot in six hours

Sorry PEG* heads

That's not a 'protest':

THIS is a protest:

Combine the people at ALL of their protests (including repeats) and you'll still have less than the single day at IGOLD.

*Protest Easy Guns. The group that thinks putting handguns on double secret probation would have stopped the shooting at VT.

Same dead horse, brand new stick

Seems like a lot of people play this game but I’m more interested in WHY they play it and what the rules are. I’ve been reading an excellent book called Random Violence and this is my gatherings so far. The book doesn’t address gun control directly, just violence in general and society‘s response to it. So this is my take on gun control advocates inspired by the author‘s logic. Let’s look at the mind of the anti and their host animal, the MSM.

“Highway shootings haunt America’s roadways”

OOOOH, something “new.”

Media picks up on the meme and starts reporting on more and more incidents at the national level, calling it a trend. Never mind if the number of people who are shot while driving is actually increasing or if the media is simply reporting on more instances.

Brady Bunch smells red meat……………….make that fresh grass.

Story peters out, media starts looking for something “new.”

“Drive-by shootings haunt America’s communities.”

Ooooh, that sounds promising!

Brady Bunch calls for more gun control.

Story peters out. MSM still reports on it at the local level, but it’s not national “news” anymore.

Brady Bunch still appreciates the local coverage but recognizes that they need a new national splash.

“School shootings a national epidemic”

Oooooh, here comes the chubber.

Here’s one with some legs on it. Every school shooting is still reported at the national level…except for that little Appalachian School of Law incident which noone would be interested in.

Brady Bunch sooooo happy with the legs. But all legs have their limits.

As each “new” threat falls out of the “news” cycle, becoming “old news,” a vacuum is created.

The whole issue with the book I’m reading(Random Violence by author Joel Best) is how society and the media continuously find “new crime” so they can report it as “news.”

They totally miss the underlying factor that there are those in our society who care nothing for the rule of law.

This concept is very, very old and not newsworthy. Snark.

To the same extent, gun control activists continuously find new “gun crimes” and new gun violence memes, neglecting the underlying problem of violent behavior.

Blaming an object is simply easier than trying to address the root causes that drive people to violence against their fellow man.

The trick is repackaging the same ol’ crap and polishing that turd to such a high gloss that other people will actually buy it………………………this time.

Yeah. That'll Stop Them

VT, the school that banned firearms one year before the shooting to let people 'feel' safe, has put forward a proposal to ban ammunition in dorms.

*sigh*

h/t to VCDL.

Another slapdown to Bloomie and MAIG

West Virginia is looking to pass a measure outlawing Mayor Bloomberg's stings against firearm dealers.

In his crusade to ban guns in as many places as possible, all he's doing is stepping on toes and ticking people off.

Keep up the good work Mike.

More Expired Equines being Pummeled

With the expansion of the highly faulty "No-Fly List" with an additional 3000-odd names, the Brady Campaign starts beating the "No Due Process" drum again.

Basically he's repeating John Rosenthal's statement that just being a suspect is good enough to strip a person of their rights.

This is the kind of 'reasonable' and 'common-sense' nation gun control advocates are pushing for.

Beat that Dead Horse Dennis

Dennis "What People?" Henigan puts together a mostly incoherent rant once again attacking Starbucks for following local and state laws.

Give it up Dennis. You've lost the Concealed Carry fight. Open Carry is becoming more common. And Starbucks hasn't bothered with you. They just want you to go away not because you're a threat to them, just a nuisance.

Terrorists & GangBangers & Minorities! Oh My!

It's fairly common for gun control activists to stereotype firearm owners as 'knuckle-dragging rednecks' and that our feelings would change if we saw 'black folk' walking around open carrying firearms. They even have Bogus research supporting them. Why is it then that most 'gun control' bills seem focused on disarming minorities?

Beyond Clayton Cramer's classic piece on the history of keeping guns out of the hands of minorities, we also have the attempts by the government to disarm Native Americans and those who live in Gov't housing (again mostly minorities).

Today we have members of the Illinois State Legislature heeding the words of VPC ED Josh Sugarmann that African Americans need to be disarmed for their own protection with the introduction of HB6123 which would make it a Class 1 felony to knowingly sell or give a firearm to a person who is a street gang member. Now to be fair, Illinois does have a statute stating what a 'gang-member' is even though it gives no way to tell how to recognize a gangmember. Of course we all know who they're targeting when even gun control advocate Robyn Ringler banned the phrase 'Gang Banger' from her blog claiming it was a super-seeckrit codeword for blacks and hispanics.

All this is is a pathetic state-level attempt to restrict guns based off of loaded language like 'suspected terrorist'.

Assuming it would pass, the only effect it would have would be to place FFL dealers in the position of deciding between a Class 1 felony or a discrimination lawsuit.

  • Another ineffectual 'gun buyback' May 8 in Chicago. The money quote:
"I don't know the science behind this, but I know one less gun means one less potential killing," said investment banker Dana Levenson, the city's former CFO, who is co-chairing the program with former Chicago Police Supt. Terry Hillard.

Grande desperation

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the Brady Campaign getting all bent out of shape about Starbucks, trying to figure out what their true motive is. I know that most gunnies have already moved onto other matters, but I usually need to digest things a bit longer and find the root cause before I can dismiss it.

First a brief recap.

BC hollers at Obama and is ignored.
BC hollers at Congress and is ignored.
BC hollers at the SCOTUS and is ignored.
BC hollers at the NBA and is ignored.
BC hollers at Lady Gaga and is ignored.
BC downgrades yet again and starts hollering at Starbucks……and is ignored.

Why?

I don’t believe the Bradys are silly enough to think that going business to business could ever be a winning strategy for them nor cost effective for their limited resources. Heller put a rain cloud over federal level bans and McDonald will soon expand that thunderstorm over the 50 states and all the locals within. But attacking individual businesses? They might as well come out and say, we suck because this is all we have left. I thought that at first but something just didn’t smell right.

I had the radio on in the background while thinking about this the other day and some talking head was recounting the latest and greatest celebrity scandal.

He mentioned, “There is no such thing as bad publicity, once people stop talking about you, your career is on the brink.”

That’s when the light bulb went off.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Starbucks is somewhat of an American icon. They are symbolic. Picking a fight with them guaranteed news coverage. Every major media outlet covered the story. There’s youtube videos in abundance.

Starbucks has already said REPEATEDLY that they will defer to local and state law concerning the lawful open carry of firearms yet the Brady Campaign still won’t let up.

I believe that this is a simple attempt to keep their name in the news when everyone and their dog is ignoring them.

The Brady Campaign doesn’t fear sounding silly, they’ve made a lifestyle out of that.

They fear becoming irrelevant.

Some fears are unjustified, this one is not.
