Why I joined the NRA

To join my fellow brethren in a righteous life and death battle against tyranny with the hopes and dreams of overthrowing the imperialist government pig-dogs!!!!!!

Well, not really.

To honor the sacrifice of our Founding Fathers who selflessly gave their lives and fortunes in forming this great country!!!!!!

Hmmm, nope…that ain’t it.

To recognize that in order to protect my Rights, it would be wise to exercise them?

Fooled ya, didn’t I? That isn’t it either.

Because I have a freakishly small penis?

While I don’t do a whole lot of side-by-side wiener comparison, my junk is average according to all the medical professionals I call late at night while standing in my kitchen naked and sobbing uncontrollably.

There are three very simple reasons I joined the NRA.

1. I get $1.00 off the admission price at gun shows.
2. I get a 10% discount on ammo at a gun store in a nearby town.
3. The magazine subscription.

There, the truth is out. I joined about 15 years ago and faithfully paid my $35.00 yearly dues with pleasure, but not much beyond that. Now I contribute about 10 times that amount each year in the form of straight up donations, using the NRA credit card, buying books and videos and the occasional purchase of merchandise such as knives or tote bags with the NRA logo.

I’ve even been known to buy a 1-year gift membership for the occasional anti troll. Ask Jadegold about it the next time ya see him, he just loves to reminisce about that one.

The reason behind this post is because of something Thirdpower wrote in his “Wishing doesn’t make it so” post just down thread…

“So in the mind of Thom, if you don't own a gun, you support 'gun control'? “

The Brady Bunch loves to point out that the NRA has ONLY 4 million members out of a population of 80 million gun owners. They tend to gloss over the fact that they, at best, have 150,000 supporters out of, what, the remaining 120 million adults in America?

The Brady Bunch also likes to lament that they just can’t figure out why congress critters are, uh…kinda gun shy when it comes to pushing more gun control laws. This is understandable on a superficial level. The dems have the House, the Senate and we got the Messiah in the White House with Biden, Holder, Hillary, Emanuel, Duncan, Koh, etc. I won’t get into all the anti forces in the czar brigade so this post doesn’t get too wordy. This is the dream team for Pete’s sake, and yet we are still advancing…and winning; while they must continue to consolidate in order to survive, fight for Joyce’s praise upon them and recycle arguments that were debunked 20 years ago.

My New Year’s resolution is to sign up as many new NRA members as I can.
No rest
No retreat.

The magazine subscription is quite good.

Joyce Foundation Getting Their Money's Worth?

The VPC took a grant cut of $115K this year from their sugar daddies at the Joyce Foundation. Guess the realized that the Lightbringer's Chicago-style promises were worth those of a frat boy on prom night. Assuming no increases or decreases from '07, that would mean Josh Sugarmann and Kristen Rand are now siphoning nearly half of the total grant in just their salaries alone (what a sweet gig).

So what's Josh's first action of the new year? Why a rant about how much he doesn't like his neighbors. Not exactly what the Joyce's are paying him for, is it?

To continue its research, public education, communications, advocacy, and coalition efforts in support of effective gun violence prevention policies.

They're really getting their money's worth, aren't they?

Feeling the Pinch.

The tough economy and pending losses is forcing the Joyce Foundation to re-evaluate their situation. Along w/ Saul Cornell dumping the 2A 'Research' Center, several other groups are going away.

According to the 2009 grant list as of Dec. 10, 2009, the LCAV Illinois puppet group Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (ICPGV) is being merged w/ the Illinois Council against Handgun Violence (ICHV):

Looking at more of the grants. Todd Vandermyde noted that Karlin's are going to have more on their plate as the States United to Prevent Gun Violence has been merged with the Freedom States Alliance (FSA) :

To support its transition following a merger with States United to Prevent Gun Violence and its continued efforts on behalf of state gun violence prevention groups.

It also looks like Josh Sugarmann (among others) is going to have to tighten his belt a bit this year as they're getting over $100K less than they did last year. That'll barely cover the salaries. But how much does it really take to do Google searches all day?

Whether it's the economy, support, or a business decision , this shows the condition that gun control advocacy is in as pro-gun groups across the country are expanding . They're hurting and we need to continue to make them hurt.

Wishing doesn't make it so....

Thom Mannard, ED of the Joyce puppet group Illinois Council against Handgun Violence Ownership laments that nobody cares about his group's message:

On the federal level, we know that Congress is supposed to be an institution that embodies principles. In reality though, Congress allows the gun lobby to set the agenda on this issue. Bills supported by the gun lobby have consistently received votes while bills supported by gun control advocates are not even given as much as a committee hearing. What does that say about the process? The current situation shows that we are not hearing all sides and allowing for a fair and just process....

There are many times when I wonder how our elected officials in Washington D.C. can just sit there and only acknowledge the position of the minority – i.e., gun owners, but not the majority.

So in the mind of Thom, if you don't own a gun, you support 'gun control'? Poor babies. Your organization has to be funded almost exclusively by the Joyce's and has a membership that can fit into a couple of minivans while the ISRA alone has a membership of between 15 and 20 thousand. Gun control groups nationwide 'might' be able to claim membership of 150K individuals. The NRA has 4 million.

'Majority'? You don't even know what that word means.

In reality, they know that McDonald could very well be the death knell for their group so they throw out the 'let's come to the table and talk' ploy. Even with that, though, they can't help but poison the well:

Let people who feel that giving guns to all is the right thing to do come to the table.

In other words, anyone who doesn't support their 'message' wants to hand out machineguns to schoolchildren and violent felons. So much for wanting to 'discuss' things 'intelligently and rationally'.

Really Mr. Mannard, why should we bother sitting down w/ you? What do you have to offer us?

What happens when you release a bunch of violent criminals after serving only a few weeks of their sentence?

Why they go back to business as usual:

Of those released, Quinn said 56 are back in state custody. Of those, 48 are charged with violating the terms of their release, and eight have been charged with new offenses. Six were arrested for retail theft or drugs and one for domestic assault. Another inmate released Sept. 22 after an aggravated drunken driving conviction was arrested on the same charge less than a month later, records show.

And the traditional finger pointing begins:

Gov. Pat Quinn admitted Wednesday that state corrections officials made a "mistake" in putting hundreds of inmates back on the street after just a few weeks in prison and said he didn't know about his own administration's cost-cutting decision beforehand.

Doncha' just love politicians?

Their brief has been submitted and is available here. Basically it's begging the court to keep 'precedent' and not overturn every crappy decision the court's made in the last 150 years.

The true desperation is shown in that they are still sticking to the 'collective rights' argument:

The year was eventful. Kaveman joined DOOT as a co-blogger w/ his own unique view and some excellent posts. McDonald v Chicago is in full swing with things looking good for our side and the Brady Bunch effectively admitting defeat and Chicago desperately trying to cling to whatever vestiges of the ban they can. On the Federal level, we got the Amtrack bill and a few others. No major anti-gun bills have squeeked their way through. The states have been a mixed bag w/ the usual suspects like NJ, NY and CA passing laws that will in no way effect crime but other states showing their muscle by giving the proverbial middle finger to the ATF. I had a good time at the '09 NRA Convention. Wish I could have spent more time there.

What's new?

Something my buddy and I discussed awhile back is the dearth of firearm innovation for the civilian market.

Certainly there have been design improvements over time, but our focus was on truly ground-breaking technologies that would change the entire industry.

Once the ebil gun-loons settled on...

1. Centerfire metallic cartridges.
2. Smokeless powder(nitro-cellulose based).
3. Necked casings.

We kinda hit a wall in my view. Like I said, many improvements have been made to both guns and their ammunition but what was the last thing that impacted the entire industry?

The Mauser 98 bolt action design is probably still the best there is and semi-auto handguns have become smaller to compliment CCW laws sweeping the nation over the last few decades. But outside of the military, what was the last thing that changed everything.

More importantly, what do you THINK will be the next big breakthough?

One idea I had was a handgun which had its barrel directly in line with the center of your wrist and arm so that recoil would be directed straight rearward, into your shoulder, instead of your wrist being a pivot point for upward rotation. This would keep you on target for quick follow up shots.

Something like the palm pistol as far as alignment, but with more modern ergonomics and capacity.

AB 962's Real Purpose Realized Pt II

In Pt I, I noted CTD has issued a disclaimer on ammo sales. On further inquiry, their Customer Service Dept. has stated that "it will apply to every individual, business, and agency in CA".

Kudos to them.

Sportsman's Guide has not established a formal policy as of yet and I am waiting for responses from several other ammo distributors.

Bloomberg's 40 Theses

SIH has obtained a copy of the report that Bloomie nailed to the doors of Congress after his entrapment exercises at gun shows in various states.

For the most part it avoids the classic "We want to ban guns" mentality of groups like the Brady Campaign and VPC and instead focuses on well researched methods to use the bureaucracy of gun laws to reduce and restrict ownership as much as possible.

If your Mayor is a member of this group, you need to do everything in your power to either change their mind or get them out of office.

I used to think that anti folks needed to shut the hell up.

Now, I think that their twisted thoughts need to be preserved and disseminated to everyone on the interweb tubes.

Sorry, I didn't provide any specific examples, the crap fest is happening all around me. I feel dirty, and need a shower badly.

Dissenting Opinion + Push Poll = Irrelevancy

The Brady Campaign, as they slide towards irrelevancy, continue their attack on due process. Since all their previous arguments have been ground into the dust by the use of facts, historical evidence and logic, they have been forced to rely on a dissenting opinion to a case that has nothing to do w/ firearm rights. Instead it was a case in where a Chicago law restricting free speech was found un-Constitutional.

As their "Reasoned Discourse' series was used as an excuse to censure, then end, and later delete comments on their blog, (and where the mocking phrase originated) it comes as no surprise that they would cite a judge who also supported extensive restrictions on freedom of speech.

And they continue to tout the poll written by professional lobbyists for the anti-gun MAIG as somehow being representative of NRA members.

AB 962's Real Purpose Realized

Parolees on Parade

What would you do if you were on a parole board and had a guy come before you that was convicted of murder in '85 and then had multiple convictions, while in prison, of assaulting prison guards?

If your answer was "Why, let him out. He's obviously reformed." You would fall right in line w/ the Illinois "Justice" system. It would also come as a complete surprise to you that this pillar of society decided to return to his nefarious ways and murder a 79 yr old man on X-mas Eve.

Records show he was paroled in November 2008 from prison, where he had been held since 1985 for a murder a year before. He also was convicted in 2001 and 2005 of aggravated battery of a peace officer. In the earlier incident, he assaulted at least two prison guards at Pinckneyville Correctional Center who tried to get him to remove personal property from his cell. Officials at the time said Cration had "an extensive history of violence, including ten staff assaults and one inmate assault along with five 'dangerous disturbances,' " according to an Associated Press story.

But remember, according to gun control advocates, it's firearm owners and those who are licensed to carry concealed that we should be worried about.
